This is a great spot in a lot of ways--very good coffee, free wifi (although often pretty slow during busy times), wonderful, friendly owners, and mostly friendly staff. And lots of times the music is great, but sometimes it is just too frickin loud. I love to turn it up and rock out as much as the next gal, but I kind of like to choose what music, when, and where I will do that. Having mind-splitting death metal, or even classic rock, so loud you cant hear the person next to you, when all I wanted to do was go in and read and think, is not the best. Also, one day I could not hear my drink being called out because of the music volume, and was treated by the barista as if that were my fault! I would recommend turning it down a notch--a customer will be much less irritated by wishing a song they like were louder than by wishing one they dont like werent imposed on them so forcefully.

New Wave Coffee finally opened yesterday, to great anticipation. Ive now been in twice, and am very impressed: good coffee, good music (not too loud either), great decor, good mix of furniture, spacious, free wi-fi, plenty of power points for your laptop, and a really positive atmosphere. What more could you want? Oh, and its open from 7am till 11pm - so its just the place to go when youre waiting for your table at Lula, or before going to see a gig at the Auditorium. Kill some time on the old-school Nintendo system as well. Logan Square has been in need of a sizeable central cafe for ages: New Wave is everything I hoped it would be; I think Im going to be a regular! (Incidentally, there are two entrances - the one at 2557 N Milwaukee, and the one on the other side of the building, at 3103 W Logan Blvd.)

We stopped in before the farmers market. I got a "Hail Mary" (or an extra dirty chai latte with soy- 2 shots if espresso added to my chai latte. The Dude got a French soda. He enjoyed his while I marveled at the magnificent foam that looked and was as thick as a marshmallow. (Which 3/4 of my stars will be awarded to.) Impressive at first, but then it started to make drinking a challenge. Ooooh... If only I could yeah the baristas I work with how to create such magic. Anyhow, the drinks were pretty good, although the line was nearly at the door just after we sat down. Best to go before 9 I suppose. Just a few minutes longer and its packed. Not the best, not the worst... Definitely worth trying. Id actually intended to try Nothin Less but couldnt find it.

This is the worst coffee shop I have ever been to. Both times I have been there, the servers have been rude to me, and I have had to wait forever in line. I feel like theyre not serving me because I give off a yuppie vibe, which is ridiculous. I dont wear skinny jeans and retro glasses and have tattoos of barcodes up and down my arms, but Im not exactly fancy either. Maybe the horrible attitude is intentional and is part of the punk rock vibe. Another issue is that the food they do have, which isnt much, is presented poorly, and they charge you an arm and a leg for lukewarm coffee. I will say that they have a great mocha, but its a buck more than at Starbucks, where they always smile, the product is consistent, and its only a couple blocks away...

I have a few times gone to new wave because they are so close to me. Their staff is always been slow and rude but they product is good, but not great. Today I witnessed the staff drinking whiskey in their drinks while making my order, which they delivered poorly. The idea that they drink while working at 5 at night is just adding to the already poor costumer service. On top of that they are trying to push out the bakery at the end of the block which is sad since they have an amazing product and great service and they cant even speak english that great. Seriously trying to get my whole apartment building to never go there again, and their first costumers are my neighbors.

All their coffee tastes exactly like soy sauce, but it hasnt prevented me from coming back about 3 times per week. The only things Ive had here have been green tea, mint tea, americanos, dark roast coffee, and right now Im having light roast coffee. The latters flavor bears the least resemblance to soy sauce of all the coffee drinks, but its still noticeable. One who is perceptive to the soy sauce flavor of the coffee might also pick up on the misandry that most of the baristas affect, but if youre like me it wont prevent you from returning 3 times per week. I would be interested in agent Dale Coopers evaluation of the coffee here (and whether it tastes like soy sauce.)

Yes, I have issues with this place. I once made a snarky Twitter comment about some album that was being played a few days after they opened and was promptly blocked by the account owner. It feels dirty in there. The coffee is decent if not exceptional. The crowd, especially during the first few years was hipsterish in the bad sense - snobby, dismissive and borderline rude. That said, Im very happy this place exists. It was my home office for a year and was the first place in LS that I could work at all day. Im glad there are other options to work out of now, but I still go back there regularly to support the place that started it all.

I really like this place but the service isnt always the nicest and the people who frequent it always look like they have some sort of stupid dance party to go to. However, the food is pretty delicious and the coffee in my opinion is pretty standard- nothing terrible, nothing flat out amazing, but always good. What makes up for it is the free Nintendo+big screen TV with an assortment of games, local advertising of different events, free wi-fi, and some seriously comfortable couches/chairs (that is if the little hipster girl with the maroon tights and condescending look didnt snatch it first).

The coffee is great! This cafe/museum offers art deco decor with the greatest album covers referencing the historic New Wave Era from the 1980s. The Synth Pop explosion sent waves in Chicago arrived on the north side in Lake View and Lincoln Park, both which were much cooler neighborhoods back then. Notably, Berlin Dance Club, the Smart Bar and Wax Trax Record Store paved the New Wave & Post-Punk scene imported from the UK and Europe and later LA, in Chicago. Music from that time has influenced dance, house, trance, rave, hip hop artists since then.

They used to sell great croissant but not anymore. New vendor is not even close to Bagel and Beans. New Wave sells great coffee - Metropolis, decent croissants . Their selling paint were croissants. ..... I miss them. I hate the service - Im not 20 years old hipster and it looks like I cant expect even one smile. The service is terrible. Last thing - what is the deal with LeBoulangerie ????? They should compete wby the quoality, service, not the lease limitation. Same on New Wave owner...

Logan Squares premiere hipster watching station. You can work at New Wave for hours and no one gives you dirty looks making it simultaneously the most awesome and most horrible cafe. Cafe might be an overstatement, its more like the SAIC offsite cafeteria and study lounge. Weirdly considering that, the art on display is always terrible and garish. The best New Wave experience is best when served outside during the farmers market in the summer. Bonus star for NES console.
