I get it, its Stephanie Izard and that is reason enough to add LG to your Chicago bucket list. Its been on mine for quite some time so I finally made the journey. It was a Monday around noon and I wasnt surprised to learn when I called that there was a 20 minute wait. The nice surprise was parking was a plenty and free! Walked in, gave our name and phone number and headed to the washroom. I counted about six empty tables so while there probably was a good reason for the wait, the perception was...why exactly do we have to wait 20 minutes during my hour long lunch break? Side note, big fan of the wall papered doors and hand dryers in the bathrooms. They text us when our table was ready and we had our choice of inside or outside, bonus! Server was able to speak to the menu options and give us some recommendations. We started with the fried pickles and onion rings. These were really more like tempura than fried pickles and I mean that in the very best way possible. The curry mustard dipping sauce was nothing less than inspired! Off to a great start....then I ordered the pork belly pancake and went splitsies with my friend who ordered the Los Drowned. I definitely win when it comes to best orderer of the lunch! Pork belly was buried in a plethora of pickled veggies with the most perfect balance of hoison sauce. It wasnt overwhelming to any of the other flavors, including the subtle scallion tones of the crispy pancake. I did not care for the Los Drowned. The braised beef had a thick line of fat through it. I didnt find it all that tender. It was a little messy to eat and I couldnt taste much of the avocado, but I did get a lot of the roasted pepper flavor. Might have to say, maybe too much. So two sandwiches (ala carte) and a shared appetizer of friend pickles, water and the bill split two ways was about $21 per person. I was fully aware going in that this is what it would be, but I hate to be that guy to say it might have been slightly overhyped and a little overpriced. Glad I went. I would go again, but it wouldnt be based on my suggestion.

We watch food network shows all the time and Iron Chef and Iron Chef Gauntlet are among the shows we watch. In 2017, Stephanie Izard beat all the other contestants to get to the Gauntlet where she went up against 3 Iron Chef and beat 2 of them for the win. She is now an Iron Chef and we love to go to Iron Chef restaurants and have never been disappointed. And this was no different. This is a diner after all, not Girl & The Goat, the upscale restaurant across the street that she also owns. You DEFINITELY need a reservation to go to any of her restaurants. Two weeks ahead of time, we could not get a reservation for Girl & The Goat, so we made reservations for this diner. So for diner food, this is absolutely elevated. I had the GRILLED CHEESE - $13.00 - gjetost & cheddar. guanciale. apple-tomato relish. bacon gouda bread. Oh my goodness the layers of flavors as you bite into this luscious sandwich. This was the very best grilled cheese Ive ever had. The servers are very friendly, and very efficient. The food you order is well prepared and tastes great. And the fries were crispy and tasty. Prices are average for food this good. We will come back next time were in town. This is downtownish Chicago, and I live in the suburbs. We dont come into the city that often. I wish she had a restaurant in the southwest suburbs.

So if you come to Chicago every blue moon and that ridiculously hard table at Girl & the Goat is hard to come by...meet its hot sister.....Little Goat Diner....HAYYYYYY! After glowing reviews from numerous friends, we had to come try this place out for brunch. So food wise, what should you order??? EVERYTHING. We came in with a small group of us. I secured reservations since I knew there might be a mad rush for this place. We were seated within 10 min of arrival. Scooped a booth next to the window with a place to hang out jackets - love it! For food we ordered: the parathas burrito (not really a burrito..more like a naan flat bread, but go with it), biscuits and gravy, omelette, this little piggy went to china ( laugh all you want - its damn good.), and the hot crab dip. I have to say the "This Little Piggy Went to China" really knocked it out of this world! The not so amazing part was the crab dip...too fishy tasting for my taste-buds and didnt blow my socks off like I was hoping for. Heads up - the dont offer to change the way the eggs are cooked, learned that after trying to alter the sunny side up stuff. The service was friendly and did a great job looking after us given the huge rush. I was really glad we came and the food was definitely worth it!!

Over to the the bakery we went after an incredible breakfast at the little goat diner. We were greeted by some very friendly folks behind the counter upon entering. The digs here are less impressive than at the restaurant next door, however the coffee bar is quite nice. Our expectations were fairly high given the level that the diner was operating at, however we werent blown away by the offerings at the bakery. A number of muffins and cookies were available as well as some other carb loaded items. We had a cranberry muffin and some cookies for the road and they were okay, but not great. The muffin was a little on the dry side and we can certainly talk about up to a bad batch, however again we were expecting something pretty incredible based on the breakfast we had just experienced. The coffee I had was lovely and I would come back for nothing else then that, especially after having had breakfast nearby. The loaves of bread that were available looked good, certainly a step up from Panera, but again less exciting then we felt they could have been based on the offerings next door. Certainly worth checking out if youre in the area, but probably not worth going out of your way for.

Ive been wanting to come here for a while. I finally got a chance to come for dinner. I arrived around 5pm on Saturday and there was a table available immediately. The atmosphere is neat with an upscale cafe style appearance. It would be a good place to bring guests from out-of-town. Service was good, but not excellent. The waiter was friendly and took our order quickly, but we didnt see him again until we had almost finished eating. Our food came within 15min of ordering. The food was very good, but in my opinion, overpriced. I ordered the sloppy goat (a traditional sloppy joe with goat meat, slaw, and a homemade bun). It was $13 and fries were separate and cost another $6. The fries were not very crispy and a little salty for me. You should expect to pay around $14 for sandwiches with no side item. Most breakfast items are $13-20. Its a very unique restaurant with good food, but I think its a little overrated. Given the fact that there are so many other good sandwich shops and breakfast places in town with better prices, Im not sure if I will come back.
