I was taken here for Fathers Day 2012 by my wife and son, and let me tell you, this place really is what it is cracked up to be! We had a wide variety of items to nosh on, so we could sample as much as possible. We had the Radical Reuben,Sweet Potato Fries,Potato Skins,BBQ Bacun Cheeseburger,Mashed Potatoes,Chefs Special (The Southern Style) which is spicy Seiten buffalo style wings with sauteed greens, mac and cheeze, black eyed peas with bacun, and Jalepeno corn fritters,Chocolate chip cookie dough shake,Irish Coffee,Organic Root Beer, and a $12.00 20 oz. Flossmoor Master Wheat Ale (Which I Will Pass On Later because it lacked a premium wheat flavor and was somewhat flat tasting, very little head, stick with the best like Hacker Pschorr!) But all in all, Very Awesome Place! Super Friendly Staff! Nice, Safe Neighborhood! When we win the Lottery, we will be buying the house across the street and eating here every day! Hope this review helps you! Cheers! Jack Lynch

I recently am trying to make the transition to veganism and Chicago Diner is an awesome spot to try new dishes I didnt even know were possible to make without animal products! I had the Vegan Mac & Cheese and a Reuben which were both fantastic. To finish things off they have some out of this world vegan shakes and desserts! Not only is the food delicious, but the service kept my water filled and payed attention to whether or not I wanted or need anything. On top of that the decor and atmosphere send you back in time from the moment you walk in! Whether youre looking for a new spot to try some really tasty food, want a place to go with your one vegan friend that you can never seem to find a place eat with, or want to travel back in time to the sound of milkshakes being made and jukebox music being played Chicago Diner has got you covered! I cant wait to come back and treat myself to some awesome and more delicious food!

Wonderful Vegetarian/ Vegan Restaurant. The Poutine is also my favorite starter! The space itself is a little small, with about 6 or so booths, 10-12 tables with 2 seats, and a bar that accommodates about 6 or so. When its busy, its packed, and there can be little elbow room, but the staff is wonderful, and when it isnt busy, it is truly a wonderful place to be. There arent any fancy decorations or anything, but all the food is delicious. They are especially well-known for their shakes, which I can say will be one of the best shakes youll ever taste. The Diner serves absolutely no meat, but as a meat-eater, I can tell you that the food is still delicious-- some dishes being even better than their meat counterparts. And the ice-cream! I promise you that they have the best ice-cream you will ever taste. Better than any brand you can think of. Go ahead and give this place a visit, its wonderful. 5/5 all around!

Seriously disappointed. I have never had a bad experience until today. The server was incredibly rude, our food came out cold, and now me and my friend both feel sick. This has never happened. I usually go to the Logan square location and have never had a problem. I always finish my meal no matter what because I cant stop eating. I ate a quarter of my sandwich and my Mac and teese tasted like it was not right and microwaved. I wouldnt mind if it was edible but it wasnt. I literally left all the food on the plate and she didnt ask if anything was wrong with it even tho she heard my friend say it was all cold. Never again. This isnt the first time the service at this location was terrible. But the food, Im shocked. See you guys in Logan square where the servers are sweet and awesome and the food is always on point. Being in the industry, truly sad about this experience as this is my favorite place to eat.

One of my moms must go places when she visits me in Chicago. We arent vegan, but we love to try different foods and amazing tastes! For food you wont get anywhere else, this place is amazing! My husband, an open-minded meat lover, also gave The Chicago Diner a 5 star approval! I had a Buddhas Karma Burger of deliciousness with the crinkle cut fries, my mom ordered the Baja Fish Tacos with killer cilantro salsa, and my husband ordered the Ruben with yummy mac and teese! We ended the night with an amazing, cant believe its not dairy, vanilla chai shake and a blow your socks off chocolate peanut butter cake! And if this wasnt enough, we were able to pick up this bill without feeling blue because all of this deliciousness was only about $50! Well be back again for sure!

I went on a Saturday night for take out. I got the gyro entree and the much talked about green machine salad. The gyro was quite tasty. A lot better than the gyro I had at Soul Vegetarian East. It came with some old and tasteless spanish rice and a pickle ( I know, right ?)The green machine salad however was totally disappointing. From the thick unappealing dairy cheese to the watery vinegar dressing, I definitely should have passed this entree up. I would not have even known it was a cilantro dressing except for the fact it had a green tint. So will I go again? Perhaps. But next time Ill definitely make sure the Halsted Street festival is not going on! The meal came to about 19 bucks. I recommend any veggie to try this place out at least once.

As someone who doesnt eat plant-based, I was so amazed by this gem of a place. A friend with digestive issues who is forced to eat plant-based was visiting from out of town and we decided he could probably find something good here. We were blown away. The "mac and cheese" (which used Teese "cheese", if i remember correctly) was his favorite, as it tasted so real. I recommend the nachos. The waffle fries are also a highlight. We ended our meal with one of their very popular vegan milkshakes and we fell in love. They are so rich and so creamy! I prefer their milkshakes to any containing actual dairy! Im glad this place has been around for decades, and Im sure it will continue to grace this neighborhood for many more.

Your food is absolutely delicious! I knew it would be good because of the recommendations that I received, but not this good. From the Bloody Mary, to the BBQ Wings, to the Chai Tea, Country Fried Steak and Soul Bowl, everything was spot on. In addition, we brought your great Reuben sandwich home to eat late Saturday but were still full and just finished it for Sunday lunch...and it too was excellent! We shall return soon! All of your servers treated us well and the 60s music and fellow diners made for a great experience on an extremely rainy, windy and cold Saturday night. Never missed the meat because it tasted like meat! Congrats-we look forward to returning soon! A big time winner!

AWFUL, in a word. Do not eat here if you want to be treated with professional courtesy. The customer service at this location is the worst. Pretentious too. Too bad Chicago Diner, you missed out. I recently bought a house in the hood, and my husband and I are long-time vegans. But you totally screwed up and are now missing out on our money as well as everybody elses money that we know. Dont know how many thousands of dollars that translates into but all I can say is, Too Effen Bad. By the way, Your "contact us" section on your website is a joke. I tried that. The only link that works is the one to order your overpriced cakes. You are incredibly unprofessional and sad.
