The only meat option is carnitas but they do it perfect. My wife and I went on a whim and loved Carnitas Uruapan. We were blown away by the amount of meat in the tacos as well as the taste. The carnitas are really juicy and tender with the right amount of grilled flavor. Once you add any of the salsas/sauces you will have a real treat. Id recommend the red (chipotle) sauce to give the pork a little smokey flavor. The dorados were very good and made me wish they fried their own tortilla chips as well. They do sell the carnitas by the pound and this seems like a great idea if you want to please a group of people. Some people eat for flavor and others eat for value. Five delicious tacos and two excellent dorados cost about $15. Carnitas Uruapan brings it in both departments.

Food Network rated this place one of the BEST places in the USA to get tacos (#2 on their Top 5 show). Celebrity chef Aaron Sanchez has praised this place on his show. Chicagos Best has filmed here too. But its not just the actual taco that gets credit, but the actual pork (carnitas) and chicharron that makes them have THEE BEST tacos in Chicago. I absolutely LOVE their carnitas and chicharron that they sell by the pound. Want to dine in? Grab their special of 1/2 lb carnitas (mixed meat (the skin part is my favorite)) tortillas (about 10) and a soda for around $7. On weekends, if youre lucky, they have other traditional Mexican favorites too. But keep in mind, its just Pork tacos (probably the one kind of tacos youll ever want)

Not only is this a storied business that started in 1975 by "El Guero" who sold a gold chain for seed capital it is a business that has grown by attention to customers one conversation at a time. Although I have not dined in during peak hours on the weekend, I have been there at noon and the food quality & service have been family friendly. This place does not make the carnitas and chicharron once it the morning and keep it warm all day there is a constant fresh batch daily well into late afternoon. You are guaranteed at least a Free Taco of carnitas if your order is to go and Free order of chicharron if you check-in on Facebook. A pound of meat never looked so small because it tasted so good! We asked for a mix of everything and while my friend liked the meat on the bone, I preferred the slow roasted pork skin. Also, a free side of chicharrones when you check in on Yelp! I really liked it! It didnt taste super fried so it felt ... less unhealthy. The meat is so tender and succulent. If you order a pound of meat, thats like 6 tacos worth at least, and a taco is $2.50. A pound of meat is $8.50. You do the math.

Been coming since I was in grade school. They have been pretty consistent with quality and taste for 20+ years. Ive had home made carnitas made from fresh meat in Mexico and I gotta say the carnitas here are as authentic as those. You can make a very delicious carnitas sandwich with a bolillo/telera (aka the Mexica torta bread) and the salsa of your liking and your set for lunch. For the most part carnitas are a brunch/after church tradition in my family.

Incredible value. Huge portions for very little out of your pocket. The small size of the restaurant demands that you socialize with those around you while you eat your meal. It was refreshing too see all kinds of people coming in and out to try the carnitas. The ladies are also incredibly kind as they regularly come to check up on how youre doing. And ♥️ works here

The carnitas are DELICIOUS. Come eat here. Its a GREAT value. Were a family of four, and we stuffed our faces. The bill only came out to ~$30. The space is tight so if you go during a crush, expect to wait uncomfortably while a table opens up. Dont worry though, the sweet ladies will come around eventually with a sample to whet your appetite. Well be back!

The carnitas were good. I drive all the way there to see what its about. I should have stayed closer to home. Don Alberto Carnitas are better and so is the guacamole. This place was easy to crowded. Maybe at a different time of the day would have been better.

If you want pork, this is the place. Bought it by the pound and was brought to our table with tortillas and sides of cilantro, onions, tomatoes, etc. to make tacos. Delicious. You can also choose your cuts of pork you want. Highly recommend!

I recieved good customer service and the food was good but i expected to be warmer food it felt kina cold. Cold tortillas and cold meat. I need to come for a second time...came here because of netflix show as best tacos of chicago.

This place has the best carnitas Ive ever had. Just simple fried pork seasoned with salt. So tender and flavorful. I love the value meal, which allows you to build your own tacos. The only thing I wish they had is a salsa verde.
