I live in Belgium, and I thought I would miss the generally horrible customer service here in the US ; fortunately, I found a place right around the corner which gives the Belgians a run for their money in terms of apathy, poor quality, and rude service. With notable exceptions, generally apathetic, unhelpful staff. Food: overpriced given the quality (which I find to be mediocre at best) and the lack of service. E.g.: the other day, I was awaiting a fruit salad. It was not busy. The person simply set it on the bar, shouted at me, and walked away. I had to collect it myself. One also has to bus ones own table. If Im paying that much for a fruit salad, say, I expect a little more. Interior a bit dirty. Tables usually not wiped. One feels icky after sitting there for awhile. Coffee itself is decent, but had a capo served in the wrong type of cup. In addition, no saucer. Asked barista for saucer. He sighed heavily, looked around for one, and just deposited it on the counter and walked away, saying nothing. Extremely rude. Apparently he couldnt be bothered. No restroom for customers ... Really ? However, some employees go above and beyond, and it shows ; they should be exempted from this harsh review. There are just so few civilised places left anymore. A real pity.

I usually leave positive feedback for places I visit, this one star is a rare occurance. The first visit a few weeks ago I entered the cafe, got in line to listen to the owner yelling at a customer who left the line because he didnt want to wait as they inefficiently took their time to prepare his espresso. It wasnt me so I proceeded with my order. Fast forward to today, I order my breakfast and ask if i can have my coffee iced instead of hot, the cashier says they do not make any substitutions so I say, fine I would like a cup of ice on the side then, she says no because she knows that I will use it to make an iced coffee. Mind you, I let her know that I am willing to pay for the extra ice if needed. She still makes a big deal out of it and says I cannot ask for that again after today. They bring out my ice from the back and its a tiny shot glass size of ice. I ask for a larger (standard size) cup of ice and the cashier reiterates that I cannot do that next time. I repeated myself that Id pay for it if needed but that never crossed her mind. Horrible service and mediocre food. 1 star.

This cafe has the best pastries and quiche Ive ever had in Chicago. Yes, the prices are higher than the average bakery but justified given the quality. The owner, originally from French, is a perfectionist in her trade, and you would be hard-pressed to find the same quality elsewhere. Make sure you try the macarons (authentically light and chewy), the morning roll (similar to, but better than, a cinnamon roll with progressively chewier dough as you peel away the layers and sweet without being cloyingly gooey and buttery like most cinnamon rolls), and a slice of délice dété (a cake with thin layers of sponge cake, cream and fruit jam). I would recommend sticking with the French pastries; although the non-French pastries (ex. tiramisu, cheesecake) are also good their specialty is French pastries. Also, the most authentic baguette you will find in Chicago - not white bread dough molded into the shape of a baguette that most places sell.

I let them know it was my first time at their café, and the hostess was gracious. She gave me her recommendations, but as Im allergic to walnuts, I had to try something else. I enjoyed their atmosphere and their latte. I took a couple of their raspberry tarts and strawberry thumbprints. They are small, semi sweet bites I wish I had eaten with my latte (I drank up the latte as soon as Id gotten it). The tarts are semi-sweet and I stress this because its exactly what I had asked for. At $2.00 a piece, it was worth it. I will definitely be going again (especially after seeing a croque monsieur on their lunch menu). Merci beaucoup! ^_^

Used to love this restaurant. Best pastries! The current manager Lenna talked to me and treated me with such disrespect after they sold me day old quiche. She told me the quiche was made the day before and frozen. It was sold to me the next business day and I said that made it day old not fresh. She insisted it was fresh and told me their would be no compensation for the day old quiche. Day old is day old. Bon Jour sells it as fresh. Bon Jour treats you like trash if you have any issues with their product.

After having lived in Europe and in a few different places in the US, I can say that this neighborhood café of ours has the BEST breakfast rolls ever. Theyre not sickeningly sweet like Cinnabon. I especially love their Morning rolls and their Belgian rolls. Nothing like starting off a Saturday or Sunday morning with one of their rolls. I only wish their coffee was worthwhile. It is very weak. Thats the only thing that keeps me from going there more often.

they are nice and helpful when I ask what the ingredients are in everything (I have allergies). the croissants are delicious, and come with both sweet or savory fillings. good assortment of french classics, although I havent tried their lunch food. theyre open late and usually still have something good left so you can go get a last-minute special treat for dessert.

I am in the process of moving and foolishly packed my coffee maker too early. For the past three days Ive been relying on Bonjour Cafe Bakery for morning caffeine and I have not been disappointed. The coffee is great, and the pastries are even better. N.B. there is a 4$ minimum for credit card purchases, but a coffee and scone will get you above that no problem.

I havent been to this bakery in about 3 or so years, but I can still taste their pastries on my tongue. This place is hard to forget, and if you have the opportunity, I would definitely stop by. My favorite used to be the morning rolls and their little key lime pies, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. A real gem of a place.

This is a great authentic French bakery hidden in a small cafe. I think the lady that owns it is from France. All their bake goods taste like the great patisseries in Paris. If you want real French baguettes, this is the place to go. They also have great tarts and cakes. Their chocolate cake with chocolate cream is unbelievable.

Average to slightly above average food offerings. The coffee options have to improve given what is now available in Chicago. The service is well intentioned and forward. Restroom facilities would be welcome - anything would beat those in the basement of a nearby grocery.

In general, excellent menu with well prepared sandwiches, quiches, salads and breakfast items. The pastries are really the main reason to come here though. Lastly, if you speak French (I dont), this is a great place to go, as I believe every employee here speaks French.
