A very intriguing looking bakery from the outside that I was able to finally visit. Its very cute inside with plenty of seating, staff is friendly and the baked goods are fresh and delicious. Looks like they have an outside area that Im looking forward to on a nice day. UPDATE JULY 1, 2017: My original review a few months ago was 5 stars & the paragraph above. I had also posted 3 pictures at that time & I just checked a few minutes ago & those 3 pictures have received over 28,000 views in about 4 months time. Now Im rating them one star with a description of what happened today & deleting those pictures as well as the pictures I took today & was going to add before I saw the cake that we went to pick up today. I only wish I had read the review by Winston Rajendram before ordering a cake from them a few days ago. My husband took his phone into the bakery with a Pinterest picture & Doris said "let me see if they can make this", took the phone & disappeared into the back, came back after 5 minutes & said "yes they can except for the roses & leaves - instead of icing roses and leaves, they would use real flowers". My husband said that would be alright. Doris assured him he would like the cake because they use Italian icing & everyone loves their cakes. She gave him instructions on how to handle the cake, depending on when it was going to be served and based on everything he was told we had high expectations that the cake would not only look very close to the picture he brought in, but would taste incredibly good also. So we picked it up today. I looked at it & we were not happy at how it looked. We expressed this to the young woman that was helping us. She went & got a woman & I dont know if she was a manager or the owner but we told her everything Doris had said & said this cake looks nothing like the picture that was shown when the order was placed. We pulled up the picture on Pinterest again & she said that they try to make them as close as possible and took no ownership of not making it according to the picture. Not only did they NOT use real flowers like Doris said they would, but they werent even pink roses & green leaves. We dont fault Doris for this. We do think when someone shows them a picture that they should have a process in place that they take a picture of the picture or ask that it be emailed to them. My husband assumed that when Doris disappeared for awhile that they were either taking a picture or making careful notes on the colors & details. The woman today had the order in front of her on a white piece of paper and shes saying "nothing written here". And were thinking thats not our fault, how much clearer can you be than showing a picture? We also think the woman we talked to today is lacking in customer service skills. My husband had already paid for the cake in full when he placed the order & I asked if she could compensate us for the mistake. She offered a $5.00 refund on a $50.00 cake which is not a cheap cake to begin with, but even $45.00 is ridiculous for a cake that looks nothing like it was supposed to. All she could say was "well, you dont have to take it". Well, yes, thats right but when its the 11th hour before you need the cake it puts you in a bad position of not having much of a choice. Especially on a holiday weekend. So we dont really care at this point if its made with Italian icing or not, or just how good it might be inside the cake, it has left a bad taste in our mouth without even tasting it. The woman we talked to today about this was very shortsighted on how she handled this. We really didnt get the impression that she cared at all about our displeasure. It is a shame that the $45.00 was more important to her than treating us like she cared. I hope the $45.00 was worth getting another bad review on a custom cake. Bottom line is this: I highly recommend you find a different bakery to do a custom cake and not chance this happening to you. The cake with the pink roses and green leaves is the Pinterest cake. Do you think they look alike?

Ive been to Ambrosia twice and am on my way to becoming a frequent customer. The quality of their baked goods is impeccable. Flavors are pure, and everything is fresh. These folks make everything from scratch - one taste and you know that the fruit was prepared by hand (and isnt out of a can) and the pastry doughs were made from scratch. A lot of places say they are "European" in style but this is the only bakery in the area that meticulously replicates the type and quality of pastry one finds overseas. That said, in addition to tradition offerings (croissants, pains au chocolat) one also finds a wide variety of inventive and truly spectacular creations. Impressive.

My last cake purchase lacked creative design, taste was poor price was excessive. The cake was decorated with strawberries placed on top of cake, how creative. The frosting left your mouth with a chemical/metalic aftertaste, suggestive of use of crisco instead of butter from a buttercream frosting. The sponge cake was excessively sugary. The chocolate crossiant was 2 inches in diameter with 2 1/4 inch pieces of chocolate and 1 sliver of almond on it for a price of $3 or more. Save your money for this quality, just go to Jewel for a fraction of the price and you will be happier. Central Bakery in Mt Prospect excellent choice for torte/party cakes.

If you are ordering a cake, there can be communication issues. If you have a cake design in mind, the bakery cant make all designs. Just confirm if they can do it, multiple times. This happened to us. The bakery didnt communicate with us. We sent them a photo of what we wanted. They said they could do it. We showed up and they made a cake that looked like nothing we ordered. This may happen to you also. The owner wont talk to you either. Just an FYI. We wont be back unfortunately.

Came in this morning to check it out. It smelled great just walking in and the cakes in the main display looked fantastic. I picked up a spinach and cheese croissant and ambrosia rolls for my daughter. I got to have a bite of the roll and got to have the croissant all to myself. Delicious! Ill be back again for more treats.

This place is a gem! Everything is fresh and delectable. The macaroons are the best. I recently purchased a chocolate bavarian cream cake for an office party and was told by many people that it was the best cake they ever tasted! You get what you pay for at this bakery.
