What started off as a decent jamaican restaurant turned into a bad experience after the second visit on the evening of 11/28/2011. My boyfriend and I ordered their jerk chicken dinner with salad, rice & peas and plantain...the food looked great initially...but when we started to eat the chicken, we realized it was pretty salty...it left a lingering taste on our palette and I refused to pay for something that wasnt good...so I called the waitress and I told her the chicken was salty...she asked me what would I like her to do, I said bring us oxtail instead...she went to the back where the cook/owner came out...he tried to explain how jerk chicken is cooked, how he never cooks with salt and how in his number of years doing this, he never had any complaints...I basically said that I cant speak on anyone elses experience but our own...and we know how jerk chicken is supposed to be made and more importantly, how its supposed to taste being Jamaican ourselves...even if salt isnt use, the jerk seasoning itself has salt in it...so he came back out with 6 pieces of oxtail with tons of gravy and said he normally doesnt do this (as if hes doing us a favor) and told us to share it and leave the jerk chicken on the side...the oxtail, although better than the jerk chicken, was tough...nothing like the juicy and tender oxtail Im used to... I know that these small Jamaican restaurants doesnt have the resources and options like the major restaurants, but I felt that he should have brought us two brand new dishes of food since the salty gravy from the chicken was also on our rice...and although we were charged the jerk chicken price which was two dollars cheaper than the oxtail price, with only 6 pieces of oxtail to share between my boyfriend and I, the money we payed for that meal was still not worth it...everyone knows that sometimes cooking mistakes are made where the food might be too fresh, too sweet or too salty...it happens! But I dont want to hear from the cook/owner about what everyone else allegedly has to say about their food...I want to hear how youre going to please the presently dissatisfied customers so that theyll come back again and spread the word to others about their restaurant...I definitely would not recommend anyone to go to this place unless you have absolutely no idea what good Jamaican food is supposed to taste like...as far as Im concerned, my boyfriend and I agreed that the next time we come to Atlanta and want good Jamaican food, we will definitely not be coming back and our family and friends who live in ATL, we plan on telling them that they would be better off preparing their own food at home than wasting money at this place because this Sunshine Jamaica restaurant clearly did not shine our way.

That two star is for the food only. The food is good and authentic, but the attitude from the owner is horrible. First my family has patronized this place for at least the last five years. My step-father is Jamaican, so this is where we went he didnt feel like cooking. A year ago they introduced a Rewards Program and from the start its been an issue. The introduction for signing up is $5 off your next purchase, except the coupon never comes. They also send coupons to your email periodically. In the emails it always saids you dont need the coupon and can show it on your phone, via the app. Today I downloaded the app, ordered my food and went to pay. Except I was told by Carol, that I couldnt use the app to redeem the coupon. I look around to see where there could be a sign posted about this, as they have sign posted about all their rules, and there was nothing present. I asked to speak to the owner because I knew it was out of Carols hands. He proceeds to be rude about the situation and telling me, "You cant use the coupon, unless you have it printed! We use a third party company for the Rewards program and they send out those emails! Thats how this is solved!" I stood there in disbelief. You seriously think that Im going to pay full price for both meals, when you never disclosed the information prior to ordering? Wow! With that attitude from him on the hunt for a new Jamaican restaurant! Its sad that you cant support the businesses in your own neighborhood.

My boyfriend and I ordered curry goat and curry chicken. I had a few questions about the menu and the cashier was snappy and rude. She charged us for the order and then returned 5 minutes later only to tell us that they were out of curry goat & that I would have to order something else. The oxtails was $2 more, but I figured because of the inconvenience they would give me the oxtails for the same price as the goat. Nope. So I told them that we would leave & take our business elsewhere. The cashier tried 5 times to refund my card to no avail. Who doesnt know how to issue refunds in their own store? No one there knew how to do it. They basically forced me to get the small order of oxtails & the cashier says "Do you really want the difference, its only 35 cents?" Im not going to overpay for a meal that I wouldnt have even ordered if I had been told you were sold out of what I really wanted in the beginning. The whole process was frustrating. The food was good until I found a long black hair in my food. I didnt finish it. The next day I had food poisoning. I didnt even bother calling the restaurant and complaining because I know they would deny it was their fault. Needless to say, I will NEVER go back there again. There is another Jamaican restaurant further down Memorial Drive with nicer cashiers, lower prices, and good food. They will get my business from now on.

I went to this Jamaican Restaurant back on February 7, 2017; During Super Bowl Weekend; I was in town visiting from Charlotte, NC and attempting to reunite with an old college buddy from college who found me on IG; (Never Again In Life); I googled this location and saw the 5 star rating and decided to take him their for lunch as my lunch date. My treat!!! Glad I made that decision. The reunion was a fail;but this restaurant was the highlight of my trip to Georgia; The food was great; Portions were a nice size; Price was fair; Customer Service was friendly; I ordered the oxtails with rice and pea; Delicious and my date ordered the Goat Soup; He did have issues with pieces of plastic in his soup but he really liked the soup so I asked for a complimentary patty instead; I wish they had a restaurant location in my city of Charlotte; I would surely go!! Planning on driving back to GA in the next few months with male sidekick to revisit this place - Awesomeness

Food is of good portion and cheap price. The pork jerky is very tasty and a little spicy. The fried chicken is different from American fried chicken, and is also tasty. The girl at the ordering counter is not good at explaining things at all. Not impressed with her. Even dining in dishes come in to-go boxes, which is strange, and shows this place is not remotely interested in creating a good dining experience. But food quality and portion deserve 5 stars.

Literally just walked out customer service sucks!! Both women up front ignored us continuing on with their conversation did not greet us or say anything, two men walk inside and they literally swarmed and flocked to them greeting them. My partner and I walked right out. They will never have our business, they were rude and obviously did not care to make sure there customers were satisfied. Unprofessional!!
