I was there to meet a friend who likes this restaurant and recommended that we meet there. I arrived approximately 6:15pm and was told I can sit anywhere as there were no patrons at the time. I chose a seat and ordered a cocktail. My friend arrived approx 6:30 at which time we were told that a party was reserved and moved us to the seat closest to the band area. My friend was not hungry and ordered a cocktail; I ordered a meal. After eating my meal; my friend decided to order something to eat, another cocktail and a meal to go for her husband. We were asked to move again as the table was now reserved!!! We asked to speak to the manager; Carrie came to the table, said she was the manager and basically told us if we wanted to stay then we have to pay a $5 cover charge each! Wow! The audacity and a complete insult to your customers! Is this your practice? To charge customers who are dining a cover charge? We were embarrassed and ashamed for Cala Bar, a neighborhood bar and restaurant that my friend supports and I was intending to do the same. I am sending this review to provide you an opportunity to do some service recovery to avoid bad reviews!!!! Thanks, Saddened Customer Respond to Owners response: First, your response must be independent of your staffs account as the facts were presented in my complaint and not in your response. Second, at no point and time did any staff gave me the aforementioned option to sit until the large reservation arrived! The facts are as followed: •we were moved after my friend arrived and only at that time , first time, we were told that there was a party when he moved us •if this was true then he had the opportunity to move us to an appropriate seat as a large reservation was expected! •it was not 2 hours and more! •guests arrived before I completed my meal as while I was eating one of your patrons interrupted my meal with a hustle to support his organization (the flier was left on your table) as I was offended by the rude interruption •my friend ordered a meal (jerk chicken), another drink for herself and a meal to go for her husband •my friend then cancelled her order!after our interaction with you! •when we asked to speak to a manager we expected a reasonable solution but not to be charged a band fee as we were not complete with our dining! •if by saying we would not move after meeting your disrespectful and surprised response was rude and unreasonable then my apology is extended to you because our intent was not to be rude and unreasonable but to express our frustration in our Friday evening dining in the neighborhood •in fact your attitude was disrespectful and insulting to customers! •my friend (not me) said, no, we would not move as I sat there horrified of your action!!! •I will continue to eat in other places other than neighborhood restaurants •my experience at Cala Bar has provided me a lasting negative opinion that I will share openly Thanks

AT FIRST I CALLED TO MAKE MY RESERVATION THEY WERE PRETTY NICE AND IT WAS FOR 5/14/2016 FOR 7:30 SO ME MY FIANCE AND CHILDREN ARRIVE, AT 7:26 THE LADY SAID THERE WERE A COVER CHARGE FOR THE JAZZ WHICH THEY SHOULD HAVE STATED BUT IT WAS OKAY BECAUSE IT WAS MY FIANCÉ BIRTHDAY SO I DIDNT MIND IT,BUT WE SAT DOWN IT WAS NICE THEY WELCOMED US AND WE PLACE AN ORDER FOR OUR ENTREE THE ENTREE WAS DECENT, I ASKED THE LADY WHICH DRINK SHE PREFERRED SHE SAID THE RUM I WASNT A FAN OF THAT DRINK IT WAS TOTALLY DISGUSTING BUT I DIDIDNTMAKE IT AN ISSUE I PATIENTLY TOOK THE WHOLE 2 HOURS TO SIP WHICH IS NEVER ME LOL, MY FIANCÉ ORDER THE MAN DRINK HE SAID IT WAS DISGUSTING BUT WE DIDNT COMPLAIN SO WE ORDERED OUR FOOD,IT TOOK LITERALLY AN HOUR AN A HALF FOR US TO GET OUR FOOD THE WAITER WE FOUND OUT WAS THE MANAGER WAS NEVER THERE SHE CHECKED ON US ABOUT 4 TIMES BUT THERE WAS A NICE YOUNG LADY SHE WAS VERY RESPECTFUL AN KIND SHE HELPED US AN WAS PATIENT ANYWAYS I WOULD NOT GO BACK UNLESS THEY CREDIT US ON SOMETHING WE HAD TO WAIT A VERY LONG TIME WE LEFT AT 10:50 EVEN FOOD CAME AROUND 9:52 IT WAS RIDICULOUS MY FIANCÉ HAD A BUG IN HIS DRINK THEY DIDNT DO ANYTHING BUT SAID THEY CAN REMAKE THE DRINK THE DRINKS WERE HORRIBLE THE ONLY DECENT DRINK WAS THE JAMIACIAN BREEZE BUT THATS WHAT HAD THE BUG IN IT....THEY COULDNT CREDIT ANYTHING OR NOTHING THEN THE MANAGER HAD AN ATTITUDE LIKE I DIDNT KNOW IT WAS A BUG IN YOUR DRINK, U DIDNT SAY THAT AN I CHECKED ON U ALL BUT REALITY SHE DIDNT I RECORDED THE BUG IN MY DRINK ETC THIS PLACE IS NO WHERE NEAR CLASSY OR DECENT SO WITH THAT BEING SAID DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME THEY MADE IT SEEM LIKE THEY COVERED MY BILL I STILL HAD $30 LEFT ON MY GROUP ON TOTAL BUT WHATEVER! I ADVISED U NOT TO GO TO THIS RESTAURANT, I DO LIKE THE OTHER WAITER WE HAD SHE WAS RESPECTFUL AND NICE BUR OVERALL THE PLACE IS RATCHET HORRIBLE AND NOT WORTH THE GROUP ON, LET ALONE THE DISCOUNT!!!!! My goodness, where do I begin?!! Well, I purchased a Groupon to go to this restaurant, so my hubby and I decided to try it! Got there and ordered ox tails, they were out!!! How are you out of ox tails at 4:30 when you just opened at 4 pm??!!!?!!! So, I decided to order the steak instead which was $25.00. Im thinking the steak should be marinated in some type of good Caribbean marinade and that it should be delicious! I get it and its got topical seasoning of salt and pepper!!! No Caribbean seasoning anywhere and then it was overcooked when I specified for it to be medium cooked. But what really took the cake and made me get on here and write a review was I purchased a Groupon for dinner for 2 for $41.00 with a $71.00 value. Once we were done , we asked for the ticket, the waiter whose name is Lance comes with a ticket for $56 and some change. I was like whats all these charges? First they took it upon themselves to add an 18 percent service fee/gratuity fee!! Im like, dont be adding a gratuity to our ticket!! We tip what we want to tip and what we feel like service was worth!! Thats just unprofessional to me!! White restaurants dont do this mess unless there is a large party!! Black folks are always trying to get over on people!! There was only two of us!! Needless to say, I was only given $68 of the $71.00 value towards my meal. So they cheated me $3.00 there. Then they also got me at the end!! I ended up paying $41 for Groupon plus $56 more dollars for some darn dessert and a mandatory tip!!!! This was right at $100 for crap!! I cannot believe how they are ripping people off!! Now I see why they are on Groupon trying to scrounge up business and why they didnt have any customers while we were there!!! I wouldnt go back and I wouldnt recommend you to go. Find an upper class more professional restaurant to spend your time and money at. Its also dark as hell in there. I like to see my good while Im eating!
