Love this place! Love their service! Love the decor! Love the menu! We arrived before dinner service began, so we decided to have a seat at the bar. We chatted it up with the bartender and other waitstaff. I ordered the jalapeno margarita. I was not sure what I was in for, but darn it, I was knocked off my socks. Who knew that such a combination would be perfect for a real tequila fan. I didnt really notice the spice kick that I was warned of, it was just warm and yummy. The perfect balance of flavor and tequila punch appeal. After being seated in a booth, our chargrilled oysters came out with a side of bread. Being that I had a recent trip to New Orleans, I had a taste for these. It wasnt New Orleans because it lacked the sauce and crawfish meat but none the less, the chargrilled oysters were the best I have had in Georgia. We then got a menu rundown from our server. I cant remember his name but he is my favorite person. He knew everything about the menu and how items were served. The fella ordered a roast beef po boy and I ordered al a carte - Fried mac and cheese, green tomatoes, and blue crab fingers. Dont judge me, it was my birthday! I get to let the fat girl out! The fried mac n cheese and the green tomatoes topped with crab meat were to die for! Of course, I had a pile of leftovers but the next morning made for a great breakfast! To top things off, I got a birthday treat of Bread Pudding with a candle. The bread pudding topped with praline, yeahhhh makes you want to slap someone!

If I could describe my experience in one word it would be "disappointing." The restaurant seemed to have one "issue" after another. We had reservations for outside, but were told that there was no outside seating. As soon as we were seated the server told us that the kitchen was backed up so dont expect our food any time soon. Then we ordered wine and about 45 minutes later we were told that there were no clean wine glasses so sit tight. About 30 minutes after that, a manager had to bring the wine, and he had no issues coming up with a clean glass. It was fairly obvious that this was an outright lie. Additionally, we ordered a bottle of wine and it was poured into 3 glasses. The bottle was empty before the 4th and 5th person who should have gotten some even got a glass. It was baffling. We also attempted to order the special that we were told about, but were told about 20 minutes after we ordered that they were out of the side. All of this was compounded by the fact that we never received any apologies for the horrific experience and our bill came with an automatic 20% gratuity. While I would never tip less than that, the assumption was astoundingly insulting. Overall, I can say without a doubt that I will never be returning to this restaurant and if I can, I will stop anyone that I care about from going there.

Since Hugos is off the beaten path for most restaurants, we missed it since we rarely drive down that section of Alpharetta Street. But we are thrilled we found it while searching "restaurants near me" for Fathers day. The menu does not disappoint with its authentic New Orleans selections, and the Bloody Mary Bar was a fun added feature. We are big oyster lovers and had both the raw oysters and oyster po boy. Both were delicious and very fresh. Our server Jonathan ("the tall guy") was very informative when he learned it was our first vist. He assured us anything we ordered could be adjusted to our liking. Fun atmosphere, a little noisy, but we were there at brunch on Fathers Day so lots of families - probably made it a little more boisterous. TV in every area for the sports fans. All ages and all types would enjoy Hugos. And if you dont like New Orleans spiciness, there is pedestrian fare as well. I cant speak for the kids menu as our son is 18! He loved the Praline bacon that came with his brunch choice. Hugos is now on our list of favorites.

The food here was really good and my waitress was AWESOME. I started off with the fried oysters, but I had them toss the order in buffalo sauce and add blue cheese crumbles. (Ha, does that sound familiar to anyone?) It was FABULOUS! Exactly, how I remembered eating them the first time. Their crab cake was really tasty too. I ordered the Salmon for my main entree and to my surprise it came out topped with crab meat and lemon butter dressing on the side. Very nice touch. My side was the creamed corn which was so good I ordered some to go. Lastly, my waitress was kind enough to acknowledge my birthday with a complimentary slice of key lime pie. By that time I was stuffed... but I have to admit I still went for it :-P. The only negative thing I would say about this place is the bar doesnt really have everything you may be looking for. Im not really that picky, so its fine with me but thought I should warn those less flexible.

I took my wife to Hugos to experience the Feast of Seven Fishes as part of her holiday gift. We split a good Caesar salad, and she ordered the crab-stuffed lobster. It was beautiful to behold, and the crab stuffing in it was adequate, but the lobster was poorly cooked. The tail meat was stringy and overcooked; the claw meat was raw like sushi. We have been to Hugos many times and have not been disappointed until this evening. Also, my sirloin steak was hard to cut and fibrous, and my wifes potatoes lacked any taste. The taste of the meat was good, but I had to fight with it to cut pieces off. The service was okay--the place was very busy. Our table was out in the middle of an aisle, where the waiter traffic was heavy.. It had not been set properly (no fork). On the upside, the bread pudding (as usual) was to die for. This is not the Hugos experience we were looking forward to.

I read the review that the Roswell Current had published. We were excited to try this place out. We were very disappointed to say the least. The oysters were tasty, but on the small side. The Mahi that my husband ordered was not worth the price of 22.50. It came with no sides other than the bed of rice that it sat on. Not even a salad. My son and I shared the king crab legs, which was a special for that night. The were over cooked. The shells were like rubber which could not be cracked open. We basically peeled the shell to get to the meat. The cole slaw was bland. The fries were nothing special. Like the kind that comes frozen in a bag. We had one beer each. Our bill came to a total of 100 dollars. Not worth it at all. The service was slow but our waitress was pleasant. The atmosphere was nice, but the food....not so much.

Im surprised by all of the great reviews on here. I ate here with a group of 6 for NYE and was HIGHLY disappointed. The blue crab claws were decent very bland and over cooked. Compared to the blackened grouper I got though they were amazing because that was one of the 5 worst pieces of fish I have ever eaten. I love grouper but I have no idea how they messed this piece up as bad as they did the other 5 people with me all tried it and thought the same thing. For the money there is WAY better options then Hugos. Will not recommend to friends or be back. Its a shame bc we were all very excited to eat here.
