My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at the black bear pub for the first time this week, during our visit to Big Canoe. We were very pleasantly surprised by the comfortable, friendly atmosphere and delicious food. The service was first rate. Our server, Chase did an excellent job making sure we were well taken care of, even going so far as to brew us a fresh pot of coffee without us requesting one. :) We agreed that the sweet potato fries were the best we had ever tasted-perfectly crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and piping hot. My shrimp and grits was very satisfying, and my wife greatly enjoyed her salad. We highly recommend the black bear pub to anyone looking for good food and great service!

Unfortunately my experience, once again, was below par. The seafood pasta consisted of a few tomatoes, asparagus "stems", two small shrimp, one small piece of scallop, 1/4 cup of angel hair pasta which was swimming in a flavorless "cream" sauce. The side salad was "dead" with old lettuce, brown mushrooms and one tomato sliced. In order to have sufficient food, I ordered sweet potato fries which were ok. I am hopeful, that the restaurant will improve upon the quality, variety and add healthier options for all. I would also like to see healthier options and creativity in the menu options. This is not my first bad experience.

Awesome food! We had a lovely dinner there while enjoying watching the sun go down. Highly recommend the Cream of Mushroom soup. Get the bowl!

The managers over work their employees substantially with 60 hours per week sometimes. Great staff, terrible managers.
