I was told about The Pinewood Tippling Room in Decatur by a former coworker, Christina...miss ya.... :`(... Decided to purchase a coupon online and give it a try. I was really impressed with the food and the drinks, especially the drinks. While the portion werent extremely large, I was not able to finish all of my food. I started the the Crispy porkbelly, which was really good, but for my entree, I had the Cornmeal Crusted Catfish which was really good with the hoppin john. I thoroughly enjoyed the drinks also. They have a very nice drink selection. I stuck with the basics, I had the Porch Punch, which was really good, wish Id gotten a few of them but didnt want to overdo it since I had to drive back to Midtown. Although this place may seem a little pricey, I definitely want to go again, if for nothing else but the Porch Punch. If youre dining on a budget, this place may not be one that you would want to add to your list of places to dine, but if youre not concerned about the cost of your meal, then I think you would have a good time at this place. It is a small but very clean looking place, where I felt extremely comfortable in patronizing. They will definitely see me again soon.

The place was nice and they took reservations for a party of 15 which was nice. We did not fill the table which was bad on us. The food is overpriced and very salty. It seems they overcompensate with salt. This was more than just me at the table. The food came out pretty quickly but getting our check took forever. We also had a cake we needed cut and prepared and they took so long to bring it out and I dont understand why. We were done eating 30 minutes before they brought the cake and checks. Its ok for a one time experience but honestly I dont recommend coming here. Theres better places out there for the price. I think they were milking us for more drinks. We had somewhere to be and BARELY made it to the place because they did not want to give us our checks for some reason. Very odd experience. The chicken and waffles is really the only meal I thought was delicious. Everything else seemed salty and expensive. Come once if you must, dont return unless you really just like the ambiance and are already used to crappy hipster food.

Please consider this 3-star rating in reference to the densely-packed existence of high-quality bars and restaurants in downtown Decatur. If it was somewhere else, it would likely be 4-5 star. The Pinewood is a subtle corner bar a few blocks off the center square that does expertly hide the quality food and mixology in the interior. They are very serious about their bar and the menu, staff, and vast collection of concentrated flavors in a variety of bottles and old-timey containers immediately brings vision of the old apothecary with its mysterious elixirs and potions. The drinks are truly unique creations, but that is what everyone else is doing. The bar that completes the apothecary motif is also beautiful, but thats what everyone else is doing. They plant themselves firmly in the rustic-urban scene, but kinda past its prime. The lumberjack look of the bartenders is polished, like an Axe or Old Spice commercial. Hence, they are the epitome of the stereotype, which is now 3-stars.They do have a direct pipeline to Pappy, which is ubercool.

Best drinks Ive had in Atlanta. Julian Goglia, nationally recognized bartender, heads the bar and curates seasonal cocktail menus. Ive always found the staff very helpful, especially Matt, who seems to be always trying new cocktail recipes. Whiskey Wednesdays are phenomenal, all whiskey drinks half off! Make sure to look out for Scoutmob deals, they tend to have at least one going at a time. Food is new southern. Make sure to order the grits tots and the oyster roll, two of my favorite appetizers in Atlanta!

Stopped in for a family Sunday brunch and loved the food. All 5 adults in our party had something different and we all couldnt say enough at how good our plate was. The menu is an imaginative take on classic dishes - like a breakfast sandwich using waffles, instead of bread. I thought the plates were perfectly portioned and savory, not too rich and/or heavy. The Pinewood is a perfect addition to the Decatur landscape and Ill definitely be back one evening to try out their vast assortment of liquors.

The Pinewood Tippling Room is a relative newcomer to the area. It aims to occupy the space of both a neighborhood hang and a high-minded cocktail bar, and so far it is being accepted as both. Thanks to a bar stocked with interesting bottles and an extensive program of house-made mixers, bitters and syrups, The Pinewood has created a cocktail menu that is comparable to some of the best lounges in the mixologist meccas of Manhattan, Chicago and San Francisco, but without the big city prices.

I had Brunch with wife and friends from NY this past Sunday. Glad they finally have more space. Dinner was a little tight before the expansion. They do need to get some sound control on the newly opened side though.with only 8 guest on the new side, it had huge echoes of sound from people talking in normal tones. Hate to see it full without some sound control established. Smoked Salmon Hash was great. And the biggest hit at our table were the Grit Tots.

Great cocktails and an amazing atmosphere. Had selections of both whiskey and rum cocktails and Brussel sprout and "grit tots" for appetizers. Daniel, our bartender, was undoubtedly one of the best the area has to offer. We will be sure to be back and to recommend to friends. Go grab a stool at the bar if you can. I recommend grit tots paired with a "Goonies never say die" whiskey cocktail.

We had dinner with my in laws and their friends. Father in law and his friend just completed the whiskey tasting through scoutmob Id bought as a gift. They loved it. We had the grit tots, ahi tuna poke and Brussels sprouts. Grit tots stood out. Also had amazing cocktails! I had the Bebida de los muertos. Loved this place as well as their sister restaurant ,The Mercury at PCM.

The Pinewood has an incredible atmosphere that makes every visit unique and a lot of fun. Their bartenders are very knowledgeable and they love making cocktails that are tailored to your particular tastes. The rest of the staff is also very friendly. Dont forget that the food is just as good as the drinks! You have to try their hamburger at least once.

Great and friendly bartender and server. Not so good for groups of 8 or more. I was bringing my team of 14 and they refused to move tables or chairs to put everyone together. I must say, it was 4pm. and the place was empty. Ridiculously rigid managers personality.

Visited pre-ballet. Porcini donuts are to die for. Trout on the menu that night was fantastic. Interesting skewered presentation, boneless but with crispy skin. The fish was perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth goodness. Service was exceptional.

The good news: The cocktails were great especially the porch punch and they had pappy. Grit tots and sprouts tasty. The porkchop was outstanding. The bad news: The bolognese was dry and flavorless.

This is a great date spot. I love that its normally pretty easy to get a last minute reservation. They have unique and tasty cocktails and the chicken and waffles dish never fails to disappoint!
