I was excited to come here as a first time visitor, since not only were the reviews great, but it came professionally recommended. I wondered if it would hold up to the hype, and I really wanted to love this place. I got there relatively early on a Saturday night, but there was already a line for tables. Solo, I headed for the bar and lucked into a chair very quickly. First impression was cool, I liked the vibe, the interior and the people. Menu looked awesome, with totally fair prices. The menu covers, contained the rules of the house. Coming from a serving background, nothing really surprised me, there were a few things that were borderline, but I can deal with crass if I know that is the culture. I ordered a burger, a beer and a shot. Considering how busy it was, my food arrived very timely. So, my burger was very good. Not amazing, but that was only due to the fact I ordered medium (pink center) and it came out medium rare. However I didnt say anything because I was scared to complain, based upon previous reviews, and menu rules of the house. You feel like you might get kicked out for anything depending on the bartenders mood. The overall service was simply ok. I wasnt asked how my food was until my last bite, seriously, does it matter at that point? So, nothing great, nothing horrible. I also felt rushed to pay and leave, again based upon the menu "rules". I would have liked to have stayed and enjoyed the atmosphere, but thought I was going to get an evil eye. Here is where my two star rating comes from. While I was sitting there waiting for my food, one particular bartender (who had been fairly cold from the start) loudly berated her fellow employee who was filling her ice bin. He came over, filled it, and apparently did something wrong because she totally started yelling at him in front of the whole bar. He didnt say a word, just looked down, mumbled something, and humbly walked away. Then to top it off, she called him an idiot to his back when he couldnt hear, but the rest of us could. This behavior, towards a fellow employee, is simply not acceptable. It is embarrassing, disrespectful and unprofessional. Treat your guests as you please, we can choose to come back if we want, but treat your team members like family, as no one deserves a hostile work environment.

First let me say the FOOD was GOOD. HOWEVER Althiugh I was never able to receive a clear answer on what the managers name was, even tho I spoke with her personally, the manager was very RUDE for absolutely no reason because a member at the table was intoxicated an decided to leave the establishment after ordering. After speaking with another member of the table who originally explained to the server the moment the food was delivered, that this particular individual in question had left the facility, , the manager decided that even though the renaining individuals still seated at the table were okay with paying for their food and services that SOMEONE would be paying for the untouched food that had been brought out. After arguing with a guest at out dinner table the manager decided she would comp the food, but upon our exiting as I bid goodnight to the servers and bartenders the manager looked at me (who she originally had NO ISSUE ) with and told me NOT to come back to the establishment, shocked I asked her to repeat what she said and she did...appalled I exited the facility but promptly returned to ask for the managers name since she had quickly disapeareed to which I received two different answers of Tiffany and Amy. Either way I was disgusted because I was not a problem customer in any of this but was blatantly told not to come back to an establishment that I have been patronizing for YEARS...probably since before she had ever started wrking there. Disgusted to say the least I decided to inform the company itself because if this is the type of person you entrust the growth and development of your company to, I feel you should know how she treats your loyal returning customers. #unacceptable point blank period. I hope that you guys take notice to this concern and do something about the poor service that this person is okay with providing under the name of your establishment.

The Vortex really is one of those places you HAVE to go to if you visit or live in Atlanta. This was until recently the best burger place Id been to, and it remains on my top 5. Having been here a good number of times, Ive tried a lot of the food here. The Vortex has a large variety of burgers, among other things, and theyre all as flavorful as they are unhealthy, ha! Actually, come to think of it, theyre not as unhealthy as youd think, which I saw the first time I had the famed Double [Coronary] Bypass burger. It consists of a thick 1 lb. sirloin patty, 2 fried eggs, 6 slices of American cheese, and 8 slices of bacon. And to top it all off, they place it all in between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches. As I was saying though, its not that horrible, since when I had this monster of a burger, there was no grease overflowing from the meat, only a rather small amount on the bacon, which can be expected. It was a bit smaller than I thought, but still huge and tasty as heck. Besides that, Ive also has a couple other burgers, like the Cajun burger and the Black and Blue burger, which also dont disappoint. If everything that tastes oh so good about the Vortex wasnt horrible for you, Id definitely be here EVERY week! This place gets a 4 from me though, not because of the food, but because of the entry staff. Twice now Ive forgotten my wallet, and they gave me attitude as I was trying to get in instead of politely and simply telling me I couldnt go in.

I used to love this location. I do not eat out much as I have adapted a gluten and dairy-free lifestyle. First they did not offer a corn tortilla alternative for their nachos, but I thought hey I havent been here in forever, this once wont hurt. In the excitement of eating at my favourite place I forgot to ask for no cheese or sour cream on my nachos. A woman, who I assume to be the kitchen manager, comes to my table to tell me that the menu clearly states the ingredients (not what type of tortilla chips) and refuses to remake my nachos but tells me I am welcome to order something else at my own expense. I told her it was not a big deal, mostly because I do not like arguing despite the fact that it was a simple mistake on my part, the customer, and that Ill find someone to eat it. Im very disappointed that she treated me like an idiot, not just because I made a simple mistake but because she refused to help me correct it. Im not sure if she thought I was trying to be funny but I was not at any time going to eat dairy because she thought I was better off spending another $10 on something I didnt want. I understand you list ingredients but people also make mistakes. It was not like I ordered the coronary bypass and tried to claim I originally ordered a salad just to get free food.

Vortex makes a wide range of awesome, meaty burgers. If youre looking for a lot of dead cow topped with the basics or various combinations of great toppings, this is the place. I have yet to attempt any of the coronary bypass burgers though Ive tried many of their signature burgers. All their burgers come with a good deal of fries or tater tots and I find the quality of their burgers to match or exceed any other burger joint in Atlanta. If youre looking for a good, simple burger, you can find it at Vortex though Id recommend trying a signature burger. You can find good quality teriyaki, buffalo n bleu, blackened, mushroom n swiss, etc., at Vortex. Ive found that they cook burgers to the right doneness every time. My personal favorite is the Hells Burger with its habanero relish, pepper jack, spicy sauce, and roasted jalapeño on top. Great choice. I think itll be hard not be satisfied after you come here. You should have already realized that this has a biker-goth feel to it. Skulls and motorbikes everywhere. Pictures of scantily clad women. Cigarette smoke. And the only-over-18 admittance. Thats important if you try to bring any teens/children. I think its a fun, unique atmosphere that contrasts with the middle of midtown. Your grandmother may not enjoy the experience.
