I’ve visited La Bamba on many occasions and always had a pleasant experience, making this my “favorite Mexican place.” When I invited some friends to experience it with me, I expected to have a wonderful evening with the delicious food and friendly service I was accustomed to. One of my friends, however, asked for “no shrimp” in his meal. They brought out his fajitas with shrimp and he politely asked they remake the meal because of an allergy to shellfish. The took the dish back and about five minutes later brought out another dish with no shrimp. About 10 minutes into our meal, my friends had difficulty breathing and his mouth and chest were burning up. That’s right. Instead of remaking the dish, they simply picked the shrimp out of the meal and re-served it. I am not typically the type of person to complain, but when a restaurant fails to uphold the very basic standards of food safety, I am unhappy. The fact is, every time you go to a restaurant, you literally place your life in their hands. If La Bamba does not understand the importance of adhering to food allergy requests, which is akin to putting poison on someone’s plate, then I must wonder what other basic food safety issues they overlook. Have they ever heard of cross-contamination? I don’t know. The point is, now I would have to wonder every time I walked in the door, which I most definitely will never do again. After all, I value my health. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Not only did they needlessly and knowingly endanger my friend’s health, we never saw a manager and nothing was ever done to show any remorse or regret or even offer a remedy for the situation. Just a quick, “I’m sorry. I’ll tell the cook… here is your check.” If you enjoy gambling with your health, eat here at your own risk. As for this former regular… never again.

Im a stay at home mom. My days are filled with doing for others, errands, cleaning and endless grocery store trips and rarely a moment to myself. I start with this because today was a special day for me. It was my birthday. I know it might not mean a lot to some but to me, it means a lot. I dressed up in nice clothes and put my makeup on to feel pretty. I was excited to get to go out to a birthday dinner. When we got there (my family of 4. One four year old and a ten month old) we were greeted by a nice young man, so there was hopes for good service. My mother had been a waitress my whole life and I myself have been a waitress so I do try to be understanding of dinner rushes. Our drinks were taken and then it took almost 25 minutes for him to come back and take our order. 25 minutes is a long time with a four year old and 10 month old. He finally came and took our order after having told us to "hold on" repeatedly. When he finally took our order it didnt take much time to come out at all. But when receiving my order it was not correct. I tried to ask the waiter for silverware to eat my food but couldnt get his attention for a while. I ordered a chicken chimichanga not a beef one. I tried to to be understanding and was just going to go ahead and eat it (while my husband stood outside with our 10 month old because she was now fussy after having to wait almost 45 minutes for our food to come to the table once entering the restraunt.) but once I bit into it there was no way I could force myself to eat it. It seriously tasted like news paper covered in taco sauce. I tried repeatedly to get my servers attention but could not achieve this goal. My husband had to flag him down. Needless to say. My birthday dinner was a disaster. I will never return to this place again.

We have been here many times before but this time was the worst. The food was not as good as usual, the salsa was bland and runny and the chips were very greasy. My taco salad was very watery and also very bland...and hubbys nachos were skimpy on the chicken and flavorless. He had wanted beans on the nachos and was told that to add .30 of beans would cost 1.25. No thanks. The biggest issue was our server. She was clueless. After the discussion about the beans/nachos she pretty much ignored my hubby altogether. We asked for napkins, she brought ONE. We asked for straws, she brought ONE. We had to ask twice for the lemon for our sweet tea...and it just kept on like that. When the bill came, she put it on front of him and he slid it over to me while she was watching. I put my card on the tray and she came back to take it and then came back with the bill to sign...AND SHE PUT IT IN FRONT OF HIM AGAIN. He said to her "its her card" and slid it back to me. Oy! The last straw was that she came back to the table and took the bill and her tip (we only left $2 on a 20.00 tab) off the table while we were still there!! Bad form!! We will NOT go back there...La Parilla or El Rodeo are much better.

Im usually one to let things go and give the benefit of the doubt wherever its due. Not this time. I placed a to go order for a burrito al carbon w/steak. The description read covered in cheese sauce with rice and beans. While waiting for my order, I had a beer. Once the order came out, there was an "extra charge for to go orders" after I asked why it was more than the menu price. No biggie..right? So, when I looked at my food, there was bare any cheese at all..the top looked like a regular flour tortilla. I was told, "that is a lot of cheese." I asked for some sour cream and was told that "everything here is an extra charge." I asked about the extra "to go" charge should cover the small sour creme and was told they couldnt do that. Then, the burrito was only half filled with steak when I got home. Its all about setting proper expectations and making your customer feel welcome. Since this was my first time here, I think Ill find another place to frequent...especially since Im only 5 minutes away from 3 other Mexican restaurants. The server was nice enough and the beer tasted like it should have. Those are my positive points for my experience. Yes..I still tipped.

I probably spend about $80 a week at place... But tonight service was so horrible, that my family will not be going back for a long. Take a look at this sign... Wednesday Special, .99 cent tacos! After sitting for over 20 minutes waiter finally decided to come to take order. Then tells me we have to get soft drinks in order to get the tacos. Of course, I say no, thats not what the sign says. And I told him I asked the hostess before we sat down! Then manager comes over trying to explain to me that if we dont get drinks cant get tacos for .99 cents. Next excuse he gave, she forget to put it on there (its now after 8pm). Very disappointed in LaBamba tonite. Saddest part is mgr recognized me and remembered me from last Saturday! Mgr made me like I cant read and it was my fault that the sign was incorrect. Keep in mind we had been sitting there for over 30 minutes no food no water and order not even put it yet! Me and kids walked out at this point! Management what happened here??? Customer service no longer on the menu!
