I am currently sitting here and I am wishing we went somewhere else to eat. The pancakes are an absolute joke. Theyre precooked frozen kid size pancakes. The hash browns are also precooked frozen and seeping in grease. Another thing that is previously frozen and cooked is their bacon. They use foam plates and plastic utensils. The service is unorganized. Awful food but good coffee although served with way too much milk, youre going have to ask for a separate cup to be able to enjoy. Save your money and go else where. Review after going to pay: I gave my ticket to the lady who then asked me how was the food. She saw I was upset and said Ill go get Isabel(I do think know who that is) she then proceeded to tell me the person in charge did not want to talk to me. Another lady came toward me and said Im sorry but that is the type of food we sell here, you put the bacon and pancakes I the microwave. Which then as a customer made me even more upset so I asked her is that the same food you cook at home? I told her if I go out to eat its to eat fresh food not precooked frozen food. She then said I am so embarrassed that you can notice we microwave food here this is not authentic cuban food she said if this was my restaurant things would be different but its not. My bill came out to $39.xx for food we didnt touch. She said as a courtesy she would take off $10 since the one in charge didnt want to show face. So Im now out $29.xx, livid and still hungry. Also i asked if there was a bathroom and they told me its not working. After this review I am going to contact the health department this has to be in code violation.

Aguila is so much more than a sandwich shop. It is a "home" for generations of devoted, loving family and friends who represent one of Tampas best "faces". El cafe (whether its colada, cortadito, con leche - any way you want it) - anyway the coffee is superb and made the REAL Latin way!! The Cuban bread is always fresh. Their "medianoche" is the best in Tampa BY FAR - egg sandwich with chorizo, both Latin and American breakfasts, caldo gallego, - much more - all excellent Hard to believe it, but better than all the above is the folks who own and run it. The man (owner) who sees that all are well-served and happy is indescribable in his quality - but more - in his devotion to his people. You can find out his name and those of many more when you come. Its not exaggeration to say that "Aguila" is an important part of my life! Hows that for a review!!! Love to my Aguila family. John

So. Went here because my original place was closed because its Sunday, many brownie points for being open today. They have a little eating area that waa cozy but roomy. The take out area is outside. Normally wouldnt be so bad had it not been 90° outside, nonetheless, i ordered a bacon egg and cheese cuban. The regular size. The portion was huge, i can imagine the large one. The sandwhich was good. My girlfriend got the cuban sandwhich, which she loved but one piece of advice was that it needed a little more meat. Also, i ordered a ropa vieja empanada and a beef and cheese empanada. I was a little annoyed by the wait... probably because it was so hot. But it was worth every minute. The empanadas were made right then and there. Fresh food really makes a difference. Finally i ordered a cafe con leche and it was very good. 5 stars for this cuban sandwhich shop !

Hubby wanted a Cuban sandwich. 30 minutes later we got it. During that time both to go and dine in orders placed after me were done. When I asked I was told that dine in was totally different than to go. Since I had to go I guess I had to wait. Then I was told that since I ordered black beans & rice it was taking longer. I finally asked the guy that was friendly with everyone in the place except me if I had to be a regular to get help. He ran back & came right back with my order. It was likely done for quite a while because it was quite cold. Hubby loved the sandwich but this is Tampa and there are plenty of places to get great Cuban sandwiches. This place thinks it doesnt have to be nice since they were on "Man vs. Food" I guess. Do yourself a favor and go to Ybor City or somewhere else. The food is not worth the horrendous service and ridiculous wait.

I had the best Cuban sandwich that I have ever had today. The bread was fresh and it was filled with meat that was extremely favorful. And the price of a 12 inch Cuban is only $6.95! I ate half there and took the other half home for dinner. We also had sweet plaintains. For a plate of 8 big plaintains, it is only $2.95. The owner of the restaurant, comes out of the kitchen and talks to every one in the restaurant. He is extremely friendly and helpful. If there is anything wrong, he gets it fixed right away. It is no wonder that Aguila Sandwich Shop is doing so well. The place was packed at 2:45pm on a Saturday afternoon. My husband and I will be going back on a regular basis.

Ate here this morning! All the tables but one were occupied at 9AM so there might be a wait. Staff is very friendly! When we ordered we were told it may take a little bit before we would get our food, but we had nothing but time today. Surprisingly! The food did not take long to arrive! My wife had the breakfast special and was very happy w/ the espresso w/ the frothy milk!!! I had the Cuban sandwich which was the best Ive had so far in Tampa, FL. Eat here for great food & a relaxed atmosphere!

Hurry up and WAIT.....30 minutes to an hour no matter what time of day it is and no matter if you order 10 sandwiches or one coffee. You wanna know why? Because the same group of old Cuban farts roll outta bed every single day and head straight there to spend their entire morning there yapping, drinking coffee and reading the paper, and for the owners, those customers have priority. If a regular comes in after you, you can bet theyll get their food before you. The food is good, but not AMAZING.

***CURRENTLY CLOSED FOR REMODELING*** Service can be slow so dont expect consistent speed here. Mario is what many come here for always a smile on his face and a great personalty he is a West Tampa staple! The coffee is some of the best Cuban coffee in town and the breakfast is reasonably priced and good quality. The place gets crowded so get there early. A lot of chatter goes on so dont expect a quiet dining area but its part of the whole experience!
