My husband and I decided to try the buy one/get one sushi rolls at Japanica on a Saturday. We normally enjoy their lunch sushi specials and have always been more than satisfied with the sushi they prepare. The service can be spotty, but I expect that when dining on sushi. The miso soup is good, but I think it could be better. I didnt like the mushroom with fried onions soup. I always like the simple salads with ginger dressing...cant go wrong with a salad. We chose the Japanica Special Roll and another typical roll from the free selection. I was really impressed with the Japanica Special Roll because the tuna was generous and very tasty. The other roll was good as well. We liked these so much we decided to try a Firecracker Roll and the free Rock and Roll. Again, very tasty. My favorite was definitely the Japanica Special Roll of all 4. We each had soup at $2 and a salad at $2, my husband drank one draft beer and I drank water with lemon. We purchased 2 special rolls and got 2 free regular rolls. The service was excellent and given it was an FSU Game day we were one of 4 couples dining at lunch. I did think the Decor could use some sprucing up here and there, but it wasnt bad decor. With the tip we spent $44 for an excellent lunch...a splurge by our standards. We left feeling satisfied and happy to have enjoyed a good sushi meal. I really recommend you try them out for the M-F sushi lunch specials that come with both soup and salad and (5) rolls you can pick from a list. It costs $10.95 and that is a great deal for a good sushi lunch. You can get fewer sushi rolls and it is $7.95...I go big when eating my favorite food.

While authenticity can be great, being able to converse with the server is more important. Today, being able to converse would have solved some of the problems I had, though not all. I went for lunch. I decided I wanted to try the pan seared Gyoza for the appetizer. The waitress looked where I was pointed and said "Ah, yes, steamed dumpling", which was the shrimp dish above the one I wanted. I said, no and pointed again, which led to the same comment. After several tries, I gave up and pointed to a a tofu dish and crossed my fingers. I also ordered the red curry tofu noodle bowl for my main course. While handing the menu back, it hit my drink and soiled a good amount on the table, The server saw it and said sorry...and walked away. Never came back with anything to wipe it up. I finally tore my napkin in half and used that to get most of it. My appetizer came at the same time as my meal. My meal? Not the noodle bowl, but the bento box. When I said I ordered the noodle bowl, she smiled and nodded and said "Bento". Now Im thinking Im being played by a very nasty server, or one that is way incompetent to be allowed to serve people because this is now a complete farce. The food? I will say the presentation was nice, but for a dish that is touted as spicy on the menu, this was incredibly bland. After eating the sushi and the very tiny spring roll, I gave up, paid, and got out of there. Ive dined at many Japanese restaurants around the country, and this is by far the worst experience I have ever had.

I love it here. I have been coming for years and they have the nicest servers anyone could ask for. Their sushi is always top notch and their lunch menu is extremely cheap compared to dinner, so I like to get my sushi fix during lunch mostly since its an expensive habit. I order everything, from the hibachi to the sushi to the bento lunch boxes and I am always satisfied. They all come with soup/salads and the food is always excellent. Since I have been coming here for years, I thought it was time to write a review. If I could change one thing about the place, it is that their to-go "pick up" orders are always slow to get out the door and I dont understand why. You order, you wait 15 min, then when you arrive they say hold please so they can go get your soup and salad, (they want the soup to be warm when you leave so they do that when you get there) but as soon as they walk away, it takes them a good 10 minutes to come back with your soup and salad so you can then checkout and leave. I truly dont understand what takes them so long back there and it is every single time, no matter who serves you. This definitely needs to be improved because it wastes a lot of my lunch time. Hopefully they read these reviews and will correct the issue. But honestly its worth the wait, Im on my way now to pick up a bento box for lunch. Yummy!

WATCH OUT FOR THEIR "DEALS." My husband and I went there because of an e-mail we received to buy one dinner entree and get another for free. We would have been better off just getting the lunch hibachi menu. What they dont tell you is that they automatically assess an 18% gratuity for the cost of both meals. When I asked the waitress about this I was told it was something they started because people would skip out on leaving a tip for the cook. If this was part of the meal, it should have been explicitly stated on the coupon; however, it was not which, to me, constitutes false advertising. I understand that some people dont leave tips, but as a customer it should be my choice on how much I want to leave the cook. Someone could skip out on leaving a tip without a coupon, so I really dont understand what made our meal so different. It was also just a party of two (me and my husband) and we never go to a restaurant without leaving a tip, especially for great food with awesome service. This experience left a bad taste in my mouth (literally and figuratively). The food was sub-par and the service was mediocre. I will not visit Japanica again.

I am with a non profit organization that we t ti this restaurant to have lunch. I ordered sushi as an appetizer which they made incorrectly. I told them not to remake it because at this time after it was, made incorrectly I did not want it. A woman came out who rudely insisted they would remake and I hade to pay for it because they dont allow you to order food and not pay. I seriously thought I landed on another planet. Where do you go and they make food incorrectly and insist you pay for the food you did not order. I told her I did not order that type of sushi so I would pay for what I ordered and ate. She then proceeded to call the police and tell them I was ordering food and although they made it wrong they offered to remake and u must pay. I seriously will NEVER go to this restaraunt again and I advise ANY one else from giving them your buisness. They are blatantly rude and disrespectful. Never Again!
