Ive been coming here for 7 years and loved it, but last night we had such terrible service that we may not come back. Our "waiter" was rude and made weird comments making it seem like he was high. He didnt bring my boyfriends burrito out until it was cold. When we asked for it to just be heated up, he took it back and then wandered around for a good 20 minutes, not doing much. He finally came around and asked us if we needed anything else. Um, our dinner? He brought the burrito back, it was now hot, but had a hair on it. We heard several other tables complaining as well. I heard our "waiter" tell a woman she was picky because she wanted to know what flavors of margaritas they had. We complained to another server, but there did not appear to be an owner or manager around. I felt bad for the senior servers, they are obviously trying to keep things together. To top it off, the waiter made sure he took our payment at the register and stared at me while I wrote the tip, then looked up and smiled at my boyfriend. Really creepy and uncomfortable.

I have eaten at El Potro three times this summer. Each time the food was fabulous. I lived in Mexico for several years and Im very familiar with the cuisine. I highly recommend the shrimp cocktail. It is a meal in itself. It tastes exactly like the shrimp cocktails I used to eat in the Mercado in Guanajuato. My waiter, Yander, recommended that I try this dish. He did an exceptional job as a server. He was friendly and helpful. His beautiful wife Tatiana also waited on me. She was extremely sweet. Another dish I would recommend there is tacos al pastor. Make sure you get corn tortillas with this. This dish tastes wonderful with an ice cold beer. I will certainly be returning to El Potro.

Worse experience ever. We didnt feel welcome since the moment we walked in. The waiter was rude , like she didnt wanted us to be there. Made us feel uncomfortable at the point we ask if she had a problem with us being there , her answer was no we were busy before you guys came sooo. Then the manager came to ask what happen when I started to explain to him she talked in top of me with a louder voice . Then the manager was rude to me as well at the point my husband had to intervine and the manager walked off to the kitchen leaving us standing there like nothing. No customer service AT ALL

We went a couple of years to this restaurant and I can remember it vividly! If you are looking for a quiet and elegant place, this is not the spot for you.. When you enter the restaurant, you may find that you have to wait a bit because it seems very popular with the locals, as well as the fortunate travelers who stumble upon this hot spot. The atmosphere is rustic and felt family owned. The wait staff was warm, friendly, and accommodating to even my fussy toddler! The servings were generous and the salsa was incredible! If you are in the area, they are well worth the trip..

What was becoming our regular haunt, has now transformed into a never eat there again. When we first started going to this place, we were given great service and the food was bearable. Lately, however, we have had many times of abysmal service, and the food is getting worse. Today was the worst, our server failed to check on us and we had to get another server to get us refills. This isnt the first time this has happened, but it the last. Do yourself a favor, eat at Taco Bell instead. The food quality is about the same, but Taco Bell is much cheaper.

Delicious! Reminded me of mexican restaurants from my youth - dated decor, but charming - simple menu, but good food & great margaritas! All the mexican joints in my home city are busy trying to update or modernize everything to their own peril - El Potro is a prime example of why the local mexican restaurant became so popular in America, & being within walking distance of our hotel - the quality food & well mixed drinks quickly became one of the highlights of our trip to St. Augustine!

Waiter was for sure worth 5 stars she was kind and fast. The food was ok only reason for 1 star is because I ordered a rib-eye stake that was 13 something and it was 100 percent pork chop. I asked the waiter she said no but Im from Ohio and all thats there is beef, pork chop, and chicken I know my meats. It also smelled like sewage in the restaurant a little. Other than that. ...Margarita was good and chips. I do not like being lied to. The owner knew what they were doing.

Standard Mexican as expected by name....Not rated high for cleanliness ....looks like an old Pizza Hut...ceiling ventilation ducts dirty. Seats torn....Food was OK...overcooked...would not want to see the kitchen....chicken was dark meat...wouldnt fight to come back..$15 per with dinner and cheese/guac dips minus beer...Thank God for beer!!

Came back out three times without saying anything finally gave me my food. Told the manager all he says was okay and our bill was still 45$

Waited 10 minutes at the door. Kept being told "one minute". Apparently their tables were full. Noone ever stopped long enough for me to tell them all I wanted was to place a takeout order. Not to mention standing at the door that long, I could see straight into the kitchen. Observed multiple health violations. We just left.

I ordered the carne asada, steak quesadilla , chips, salsa, and fried ice cream for my girlfriend and myself. Or order was ready for us at the time it was promised. The food was all very delicious. I highly recommend this place to any one looking for great authentic Mexican food at a reasonable price.

Great food and great service for our party of 10 on vacation. Just what we needed - simple Mexican comfort food with combo meals, big beers and margaritas. We will definitely return on our next trip. The chimichangas were exceptional and the whole group enjoyed their meal. Thank you!

Bring back the buffet! Our family used to go weekly (sometimes more) and saw many regulars there. But then they got rid of the buffet, and its very rare that we go now. The lunch buffet was THE reason to go. It was awesome. Now... eh, the restaurant is ok, but nothing special.

Got home with the takeout. Wrong order... I paid 27$ for a chicken soup and the Pancho special...2 burritos covered with chili. I got a flavorless taco, a bland tamale, an "enchilada" and a chile relleno that was edible at least. I did however receive the soup... no bueno.
