I found myself in a situation where I suddenly had no cake for my husbands 60th birthday party and the only one I could find on short notice was here. Well, let me tell YOU...I have NEVER had a cake so good in my life (since Gram passed that is). I usually think cake is nothing special and pass on it. Not this cake. It was a yellow cake with spiced applesauce mixed in the batter with cream cheese icing. It is a very dense, wet cake. I have been raving for days about it until everyone is sick of hearing me. If you need a birthday cake, this is the place. It was a huge cake that would easily feed 20 and they only charged $16.99. I would happily have paid $35 for this cake. Even more. The ONLY con is that the plastic cover they served it with was too big and the cake slid around inside and got a bit smushed on one side. I think a paper box is a better way to transport cake.

If I could give it no stars it would be more fitting. Im not one for writing reviews but yes its that bad!! $15 for a buffet claiming "Amish" anything is a bait and switch of the highest order. Food is bland, mushy, taste like it came from a can and nothing is "Amish" about it. Dont use that apple butter sitting on the table either. I grew up with PA Dutch cooking and there is nothing even remotely about this place that it claims to be in any way. Though seeing all the elderly people there it resembles more a dining hall with food to match at an assisted living facility more than a restaurant. Very little to choose from on the buffet and none of it is cooked like the " Amish", NONE. For 2 of us spending almost $40.00 I can tell you to save your money as Wendys would have been more a fantastic dining experience over this place.

Have eaten here 2 times and will be last- food is over priced and over cooked and over salted $10 for 3 pieces (very small) chicken and a sweet potato that had been sitting in warmer drawer in aluminum foil plus $1.75 for overly sweet tea. Wife had shrimp ( looked like ones you get in freezer section of grocery)- Salad Bar (extra) none was at proper temp for cold food and did not order the over priced ($11.95) because all looked over cooked and did not appear to be very hot better deal at Gold Corral and for that matter for the total of our bill could have gone to any number of good restaurants and had much better for same if not less. If like over cooked and over priced by all means go but if want really good Amish stick with Yoders or the other one on the corner

This place serves up all the great food my grandmother would have made back in Pennsylvania. I myself had the buffet, which was reasonably priced and pretty well stocked. Theres a decent salad bar, but I focused on the mashed potatoes, meatloaf, fish, chicken, green beans, carrots, broccoli, etc. Staff was friendly, and the restaurant and adjoining deli and gift shop all look neat and tidy. Warning, it looks like there can be a big wait here. I got there at 4PM on a Saturday and was immediately seated, but by 5PM, there was a line out the door. Not because it is a small restaurant mind you, this place is huge! Strawberry rhubarb pie was pretty decent as well. Restrooms are decent, although its hard to get out without having to touch the door (warning to germophobes).

We looked forward to this place all day during our visit to Sarasota and went back and forth on whether to go to Yoders (just down the street) or here. We decided on Der Dutchman because of the buffet it offers and, having two boys, I thought we would get our moneys worth. The salad bar was fresh and had a few prepared salads that made it worthwhile, but as for the rest of the food, we could have done without. It was nothing special as far as Im concerned and was about on the level of quality as a Golden Corral. The chicken was dry and the mashed potatoes were definitely from a box. Gravies thick and gloopey, if thats a word. It definitely wasnt worth the $14 price tag. All in all, I think we shouldve gone to Yoders.

The food is always very good. Homemade from quality ingredients. It is comfort food, so perfect if your missing your Mama. Save room for pie, it is the best. The buffet is good, filling and reasonably priced. I wish I could give 5 stars but every time I come the service is not great. No matter if they are busy or not, maybe they dont like bald guys... The wait staff are always very pleasant and friendly, just slow. Maybe they need more help, or something else is slowing them down. It is worth the wait, just know your going good to get great food at a fair price, but you might not see your waitress/ waiter much. If they can fix the slight service issues they will be a full 5 stars!!!

Had dinner from the buffet. Salad choices were good, Dinner items were somewhat limited. Food was good - slightly bland, Chocolate cake was great! My friend commented that the mashed potatos tasted like real potatos. Great service, tea glass was constantly filled. Good overall experience. Biggest complaint is the price. TOO HIGH!!! Buffet with a glass of tea is $18. with tip $20+ per person. For that price I could have went to Outback or Red Lobster. I could see as much as $11.95 for a dinner buffet but not $18 unless its filled with crab legs! Not likely that I will return unless they lower the price or I feel like "splurging"!

After reading the website and getting excited about our day trip to Sarasota, All I can say is, what a disappointment. The food was very bland and over cooked (mushy noodles and dry chicken). The display was just as tasteless. Looking at the pictures on their website I expected a lot more. Their choice of dessert was either a piece of chocolate cake or vanilla cake in tiny little squares. No pie etc, that would be extra. A waste of almost $40.00 for two. Keep driving down the street to Yoders. We ate there last time and it was a real treat. Sorry Der Dutchman this was our 1st and last visit.

Dutch Heritage is a wonderful place for a family dinner. The waiting staff was very helpful and everyone has a positive attitude. You can choose from their menu or their buffet, either way you cant go wrong. I personally enjoyed the buffet when I was there. There is a great store upstairs that has many unique gifts for any occasion. They also have a full service bakery that has delicious pies and pastries, you must take one with you. They also have rooms for various size parties if you need a nice area for a meeting or a dinner party. I would choose dutch heritage anytime of the week.

Der Dutchman has been an SRQ fixture for as long as I can remember. Its always busy and the service is always fast & friendly. But, I really go there for the pies. Their pies are amazing. Whenever i want to impress with little effort, I go to der Dutchman and pick out one of their amazing pies. But, their selection of cookies, sweet breads, AMD cinnamon rolls are equally as impressive. My sons favorite are their sticky buns. All of their sweets are super rich and decadent, but, for special occasions, or to take to a sick friend or relative, they are the perfect sweet treat.
