One of our ethnic-food deficiencies in the East Bay Area of California is a lack of good Latin American food choices that isnt just Mexican food. Dont get me wrong, Mexican food is great, but when a conference brought me to Orlando Florida I was told by two Cuban friends that I HAD to get some Cuban food while here. Imagine my surprise at such a wonderful place like Sofrito Latin Cafe being so close to my location! When entering the cafe I was greeted by a very nice guy who asked me if it was my first time, explained that you choose what you want, order at the counter, and then are given a number sign to wait for your food to be delivered to your table. I joked that I had to travel all the way from California to try Cuban food and it turned out that he had visited L.A. recently so we talked briefly about how he liked it. After perusing the menu, I had a debate between the Cuban sandwich or the Media Noche so I asked the cashier if she recommended one of the other. My order ultimately consisted of the Media Noche (Cuban sandwich with ham, house-made roasted pork, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard on sweet egg bread), a side of Cuban black beans, a Cuban shredded chicken empanada, and a Orlando Blonde Ale to wash it down. The Media Noche was freakin awesome. The tang from the pickles and subtle sweetness of the mustard and bread played very well with the roast pork and ham. Each flavor had its moment to shine through with each bite. For the empanada, Im used to Philippine style empanadas so I was very curious to see what the difference would be with the Cuban empanada and honestly, there isnt too much of a difference other than Philippine empanadas being slightly sweeter than the Cuban. It was very tasty and looked like it was deep fried compared to the flaky baked crust of the Philippine style. I chose to go with chicken because my friend had told me how he grew up with chickens and pork was rare for him so I figured that Id take a walk in his shoes. The Cuban black beans reminded me of Mexican black beans to some extent but without as much heat to them. Id have to try the two side by side to determine which is my favorite, but once again, a very tasty side. Finally, the Orlando Blonde Ale was great. Light and crisp on the palate, not too complex or bitter. Very refreshing for the heat and a beer that I would easily order again if I saw it back in California. Overall the meal cost around $23 including tip and I ended up taking the second half of the sandwich back to my hotel. Not too shabby considering how overpriced and underwhelming the food is at the resort Im staying at. If Im ever in the area again (hopefully headed to Disney World) I will definitely come here again and I highly recommend it to anybody wanting to take a short ride out of Disney Springs to get some awesome food at a much better price than you will find in Disney Springs.

WOW ! The fountain soda is good, the water is wet oh and the over all look and design is very nice. However, The food on the other hand is very sad. No Flavor at all !! very interesting concept, but they lack in the kitchen. not sure how a professional anyone can allow the food to leave the kitchen, someone needs to school these people on how to actually use sofrito or umm maybe any type of seasoning. i ordered the rotiserioe chicken and the baked chicken from the walmart has more flavor.. omg the water had more flavor. the yellow rice is umm gross, the sweet plantains were green and far from sweet... very disappointed, you think when you pay for something, that it should atleast have taste. like Im so sad for this place. The pollo tropical is authentic when placed side to side to this joint. The service is not that great, but the staff was very friendly. the restaurant was very clean and upscale. but i went to eat not to enjoy the light fixtures. i wish i could give negative stars ! ruined the rest of my night, i was so offended.

Its unfortunate I have to dignify them with a star. Weve eaten here quite a few times never with a problem. Long story short today we were one of the first to sit down. We watched everyone after us for the next half hour sit eat and leave. When we finally asked what was taking so long they realized no one had even started on our breakfast(once we could speak with the many employees avoiding us). After a solid 50 minutes we received our meal thats main ingredient was apparently the salt shaker. They offered no remorse for our wait and pretty much told us to suck it up they made a mistake etc. I will not be back again. (Never written a review in my life however felt serious need to let everyone know plan on spending a few hours here if you decide youd like salt and bad service). NO BUENO!!!

After my experience at Sofrito Latin Cafe I had to come and write a review. Me and my wife hosted our small wedding reception there and everything was absolutely amazing. The staff went above and beyond to help us and work with us! They handled the setup with care, helped us quickly with on the spot requests and were constantly attending to our every need. The food was delicious, fresh and they were even kind enough to pack food to go for my guests. My only regret is not having more cash to leave them a bigger tip because the wait staff certainly deserved it! Me and my wife would recommend Sofritos Cafe to anyone looking to host a party or gathering. If I could give you guys more then 5 stars I would!
