Florida Creamery Suggestions: Any flavor, they are all really good, but I would recommend doing it in a milkshake Price: $7-$9 Pros: Good quality ice cream, some of my favorite milkshakes, good price for how much you get Cons: The selection of flavors never really changes, parking can be crazy (its Avondale after all) Thoughts: There are better ice cream places in Jax, but this is the place I would go if I really just wanted a milkshake, plus it is incredibly close to my house making it a solid choice. And the “better places” really just speaks to the strength of Jacksonville’s ice cream market (is that a thing?) not to the weakness of this ice cream shop. Florida Creamery rocks, their milkshakes are consistently delicious, and you get a lot of ice cream for a great price. I do wish that they mixed up their flavors on a regular basis. They have a decent selection, but its always the same, and there aren’t so many that they have a lot I enjoy. I personally just get the same thing every time, its good but familiar. If you don’t like mixing it up to much this might actually be a good thing but I do feel like its worth mentioning. The decor in here is a bit bizarre too, not necessarily in a bad way, it just feels like you’ve stepped into a bit of a museum dedicated to the weird candy section of a drug store from florida about 100 years ago. I’ve never eaten any of it but there is a lot of stuff that I have never seen anywhere else. Parking can also be a bit of an “issue”, as it can be with all of Avondale. It’s fairly common that I have to walk a few blocks to get here, and on a pretty day it’s actually very enjoyable but if it’s raining or your in a hurry…probably not so much. If you want a quality milkshake and you’re in the area definitely give Florida Creamery a try; but if you’re in a hurry, or you’re looking for a crazy flavor you may have never tried before, this probably isn’t going to be your “go-to”

I have been to this business a number of times as I live nearby. The ice cream tastes like ice cream. They have Virgils root beer there, which is nice, and ginger beer too. But it seemed there was always something a little off about the place, I could never quite place it. That was until it was revealed that the owner of this little dive is a racist bigot... I read the screenshots of her incoherent "rant" on FB and decided that I would never again patronize her establishment. The beauty of supporting local businesses is that you know who youre giving your money to. Knowing that any portion of my dollar goes to such an abhorrent person is unacceptable to me. Their products would now taste different to me if I had to eat them. Thats one reason I will never go back. The other has to do with notions of success. Ms. Wilcox touted her success as reason for her beliefs, or perhaps she was attributing her success to her world view, I really couldnt tell. Either way, if success and beliefs are to be in any way correlated, I wish her, her businesses, and her beliefs nothing but failure. I hope you do the same out of respect for human decency.

I live a couple of blocks away and had some family friends visit from Chicago. They happen to be 2nd generation Mexicans, natural born us citizens that are educated and have little to no accent. I was embarrassed for avondale as they walked to Florida creamery to get ice cream and they were treated so bad that when they got back to the house, they asked if people in this neighborhood are racist since they felt the people at Florida creamery treated them wrong since they were of Mexican decent. Now everything makes a lot more sense of why my friends were discriminated against. I assured my friend that avondale is a very diverse and welcoming neighborhood and that isnt normal. This type of bigotry and ignorance have no place in avondale and embarrass us all and give us all a bad name. This establishment would be welcomed in the deep west side but not here, so I hope residents take a stand.

This is a great little neighborhood joint which my children and I love to frequent. The kids would clearly make this a 5-star experience, but I am jaded by the owners politics and can only give it 4 stars. Ms. Wilcox did an unfortunate thing and expressed some very marginal views online, and then someone she trusted decided to bury her by distributing it wide and far. I dont ascribe to her views but I would hear her out in a dialogue if ever I had the chance. In the meantime, writing hateful online reviews based upon the owners opinions and not her business seems vindictive and mean. The Florida Creamery is a great family establishment and I will not deny my kids the pleasure they get from visiting the place.

We had our 2yr olds birthday party here and it was great. They had a little cubby area set up for us and the bar section. There were some kids toys (which the manager was sanatizing when I walked in) and a little table just their size. Many flavors of ice cream to choose from and lots of toppings. I loved my ice cream and everyone else seemed satisfied too. Oh! And they have small cones!! No one has those. Its quaint, the employees were very kind and accommodating, and the setting was sweet. Not to mention the antique Pac man type games. Awesome for the older kids! We were very pleased. Thanks Florida Creamery!

Well, I can honestly say, with all the negativity and comments I have seen about people visiting Jacksonville and Florida creamery in particular, those those words must have sparked change. I went in there this evening, not just because I love ice cream and milkshakes, but because of all the negative publicity and reviews this place has received -To see for myself. And I must say the woman working there was incredibly friendly and engaging and it was an absolute pleasure doing business there. Not to mention the chocolate milkshake is outstanding!

The only reason Im giving a star is because I have to do that in order to give a review. I called to see if they had rolled ice cream because I am from out of town and instead of just saying no, I got an extremely rude response of "no we do not, thats magical and fake ice cream or whatever, we serve real stuff! Thanks!! Even if I did want "real" ice cream I would never and will not recommend this place nor purchase anything from it!! Wow what terrible customer service!!

Ive been to Florida Creamery a number of times - its always clean and the ice cream is great. I was pulled in today by a sign for Georgia Peach ice cream and OMGosh - it was just delish! I was also curious about Working Cow Creamery where they get their ice cream and looked it up. It is wonderful they dont use BGH or high fructose corn syrup. I love the décor too - just a nice place to spend a few minutes from the summer heat with a step back in time.

A bigoted owner one who is clearly stuck in the past. I cant support a place like this.I visited July 2016 and immediately left due to the employee telling me sorry we dont accept food stamps when I walked in. Not all blacks are on food stamps maybe she didnt get the memo. I came to pay in cash using money Ive earned. I find out today that that person wasnt just an employee but actually the owner. Disgusting.
