Stopped in to Cool Moose randomly while visiting friends in Jacksonville. We got there just a little after it opened and managed to get the last open table. After that, there was a line throughout the dining room and out the door for the remainder of our time there. Its a popular place and its easy to see why. The menu is brief but with lots of options, and they also have a daily specials board that included some creative dishes. On this visit, we went a little more traditional and ordered from the regular menu. I opted for the Hello (everything bagel with cream cheese, capers, tomatoes, and onions and I opted for the fresh salmon for $1.99/ounce extra), and my fiance ordered the traditional eggs benedict. The coffee is self-serve and unlimited. They serve a Sweetwater blend (which was rather bitter, like it had been sitting there a while) and several varieties of Green Mountain coffee (they cycled through blueberry, pecan, hazelnut, and pumpkin spice while we were there and all were good). Nothing super special here but good enough. My bagel/salmon combo was really quite delicious. They gave me a generous amount of capers, onions, cream cheese, and tomatoes. For only $3.89, this is quite the deal! The one ounce of salmon I ordered was plenty to have a bit of fish on both sides of the bagel. This is probably the cheapest yet best lox/bagel combos Ive ever had. My fiance enjoyed his eggs benedict ($8.59) as well. It was served with a side of potatoes, which were thoroughly seasoned and rather tasty. (My fork found his plate quite a few times.) The wait staff was very friendly and provided prompt, courteous service. We lost track of which waitress was ours, but it seems like they all work in tandem, especially when it gets really busy. Overall, we were satisfied with our meal and would return again if were ever in the area.

My friends and I came here on New Years Day for breakfast. All I have to say about my experience here that morning is "New Years Eve Hangover" and Im not even talking about myself. We had multiple servers stop by our table and while you would think that its great customer service, but it really wasnt. It created more confusion because the other servers didnt know what the previous server was already getting us. We were given 3 menus instead of 4 and we were not seated with utensils. We made our orders. When the food was brought to us, we were given 3 orders and the 4th was not even entered to be made. Two of us ordered the Cool Mooose Breakfast, which gave you a little bit everything, but the problem is that we didnt receive everything that the menu said you would. We told our server that we were short those missing items on our order and we were told that she would get them right away. We never did. Oh, remember the utensils we never received? We still never had them when our food arrived. We had to ask again. The food was mediocre. I think the only pleasant experience was the coffee bar of multiple flavors and the hostess.

Service and atmosphere are top notch, but every time Ive come the food has been so greasy! I really want to love this place but this past time I left feeling so awful it prompted me to write this review. I ordered the ham and brie panini and garlic fries on the side, when I received my plate it seemed like the fries had been ladeled out of the fryer and were sitting in in a puddle of grease and the panini wasnt any better. I patted it down with napkins and still had greasy fingers and grease dripping off when Id pick it up to take a bite. I understand that fries are fried in grease, etc. but Ive never seen anything like this. The omelet Ive had in the past had been delicious, but the cheese grits were served with a layer of grease on top as well, which I just poured off. Im sure Ill give this place another shot but itll be a while.

We ate at the bar - great service & everyone was friendly. Coffee was good & fresh. Eggs were just right to order, french toast was yummy. Food was all really great. Based on what another poster said about the pancakes, yeah, they were a bit tough skinned, but they were still somewhat fluffy AND the syrup was not some corn syrup substitute. And yes, they serve the syrup HOT. The bacon. It was the best flavored I have ever had. Yep, it was cooked somewhat well done, but wasnt burnt. I actually prefer it crispy anyways. Back to the flavour tho, it tasted like good 16hr smoked BBQ! Wouldnt ever believe it if someone told me. Really, I have had alot of diff "smoked" bacon, but never with that flavor~crazy crazy good. Warm laidback decor. Great prices too!! Would not hesitate to go back~ UPDATE: still up to par!

The atmosphere was enjoyable as far as decorum. The service was sub par, waitress was friendly but did not check on us often. We were in need of further assistance such as extra syrup and change in drink. The food was disappointing. The grits were not grits, had the texture of oatmeal and wasnt as expected. The meat lover omelet was subpar and the chicken and waffles were average. The chicken was the best thing offered and the waffles were bland and lacked taste. ( tasted like batter). I would personally not go back because of quality of food. However if anyone is looking for a unique breakfast diner just for coffee. Its the place to go!

Interior and atmosphere: I do like kind of old style but this place looks too much old to me. There is a difference between old and old style. They need to replace some details...But atmosphere is really friendly. I felt comfortable in there. Food: Yes! Its good! Its really delicious and I like their breakfast even more than at famous The Fox. The egg Benedict was with the right amount of the Hollandaise sauce. Which is really rare in places like this. Their buttermilk pancakes are soooo yummy. Kids love it so much! We loved to come for the breakfast at The Cool Moose!

This place, though small is very unique and very well kept. The place is constantly business and for good reason. Though they have a waiting list theres alot to do in the area to buy your time until your seated. Lets talk food! They items that they serve here are very delicious from breakfast menu to lunch platters what I love about this though is there limitless coffee that is fresh brewed, strong but not too strong, and the variety of flavors they offer. Service was excellent and timely. If i didnt live so far away i would definitely come here more often.

I can admit, some of the food is decent like their baked goods, but as a previous employee, the owners have no idea how to treat employees. They give superiority to the same three girls that have been there for years by giving them all the good shifts, they under pay and over work "floaters" with false promises to let them become servers, talk about other employees to other employees, and just in general dont know how to deal with their emotions in a businesses professional way. This has been the worst company I have ever worked for.
