My son and I went for the first time last night and were absolutely blown away! We happened to call to see if we needed reservations and am so glad we did because apparently they are required. It appears that this is because they give such care to every customer and every dish is prepared to order. The owner wheels out a cart with the days offerings and suggestions on how they can serve it, but they will basically cook about anything you want! My son had the surf and turf which was a beautiful filet mignon and a bountiful serving of a variety of seafood including lobster, shrimp, scallops, etc. I had gnocchi surf and turf with a bit of heat because I asked. Simply amazing! We also loved the fresh bread and delicious but simple salad, along with an appetizer of stuffed mushrooms. Unbelievable! Although we were stuffed, we couldnt resist taking home dessert as they had our favorites...tiramsu and cannoli! I would have given them more stars if it was possible! We are already planning our next trip. Is tonight too soon?? You wont regret it!

I can say without hesitation that Gaetano’s is my favorite restaurant period. Just to add some perspective, here’s a list of places at which I’ve been lucky enough to have eaten: Bern’s, Tampa Café Ponte, Clearwater, CO Beanos, Beaver Creek, CO Left Bank, Vail, CO Blu’s , Vail, CO Sparks, NCY Peter Luger’s, NYC Short Hills Hilton (5-stars) Del Frisco’s, NYC Gino’s, NYC Leopard, NYC They’re all wonderful, but given the quality of food and price, my favorite, hands down, is Gaetano’s. My wife and I were there Friday and ordered the lobster (it was our anniversary) in pink sauce (without amaretto) over pasta, and we literally commented at nearly every bite at how amazingly good it was. It’s pretty cool to be just as blown away by the last bite of a dish as the first.

Went with a party of 7 on 11/15, had a reservation for 6:30, it took almost an hour to get our first glass of wine and longer for them to take our order, explanation "We ran out of salad and we have to take care of our regular customers first." Finally got more salad and bread, placed our order and were served around 8:00, food was good not spectacular, no apologies for the length of time for us to get our food other than what I wrote above. We all finished and left around 8:45- 9:00. 2 1/2 hours for dinner in Dunedin in a restaurant that was only 3/4 filled was not our idea of fun. Our checks, 3 for 7 people, averaged about $75.00 + tip. Its very doubtful any of us will ever return, and my impression was that they dont really care. Not a fun night.

im 100% Italian, and i have to say it is hard to find a decent italian place. You can only judge an italian place on there red sauce, if they cant get that right, they are trash. Being said, i ordered the Veal Parm and it was delicious, i told the chef/owner? that the best compliment i could give him, is that "it didnt taste like restaurant food" Note: for anyone that cares, im am really picky and not easily pleased. i would recommend this place. the salad/bread was good also. only thing i did not care for was the, "Parmesan" it was very dry and barely had flavor. If the owner/chef ever sees this i would recommend #1 Pecorino Romano Locatelli or the popular Parmigiano-Reggiano. Good luck and if im ever back on the west coast, ill come in!

We came to this restaurant based on lots good reviews. The overall feeling we had when we walked out of the restaurant was IT IS WAY OVER PRICED. The unique feature about this restaurant is there is no menu. They come to your table with a cart of raw meat plates. You will be introduced to what ingredients they have for the night, and how they will cooked. The problem is, they will not tell you the price if you dont ask. And we simply forgot to ask! We ordered two main dishes (rabbit meat and veal chop), each cost around $35. Given the price range, one will expect very tasty quality and nice atmosphere. Sadly, none of those up to the standard that deserves the price you paid. Will not go again.

Went here the first time almost by accident. Located behind a bad Chinese place! Fantastic food and service. Wife and I had veal, wine, appetizer and dessert. Had no idea what it would cost. Told my wife if it was less than $200 it would be a bargain. Total was under $100. Wow. Been back with friends, and they all rave about being able to get whatever you want made however you want it. All Agee it it a great value. Deserves more than 5 stars. Will open on Mondays for groups of 8 or more. Not for the pretensions, if you are put off by a simple ambiance, dont go. But if great food and service are your thing, this is the place.

I have always heard for years and years that it was a great restaurant but for some reason I never got around to trying it. My husband and I with our two children (5 and 15 months) were treated like we were in a friends home in Italy! We know this because we have a home in Italy and we go into little mom and pop tiny restaurants and their are no menus and they cook you whatever you are in the mood for. The kids both loved the spaghetti, my husband loved his seafood spaghetti and I had fresh gnocchi with a homemade Gorgonzola sauce and broccoli rabe. We will definitely be going back!

We have been here many time since 1994. In these 23 years, we have never had a bad meal or service. Each meal was always great. The place is modest which makes it feel if you in small town in Italy. We are going there again tonight and we know we will get the best meal in Tampa bay. We have been to the top places, but we like going back here for food, service and the staff. Gaetano, Marie (his wife) and Amedeo are great and fun to talk to on the less busy nights. We have invited so many people here every one loves the place and the food. How many places like this last 23 years!

This restaurant came highly recommended so we decided to check it out. The owner and staff were charming but not very attentive. The food was average, consisting of mediocre ingredients and poor execution. We could have overlooked a lot of these details but with the dated atmosphere and expensive pricing we were completely put off. There are so many amazing Italian restaurants in the area that weve had great experiences at - Pias in Gulport, Osteria Natalina in Tampa, and Christinos in Clearwater to name a few. We wont be back.

I dined here with my husband this weekend and we loved it! The food was outstanding, and we found the service and owners to be very pleasant. I highly recommend getting a cannoli for dessert, the cream is out of this world good. The wine prices were a little high, but otherwise we thought the prices were quite reasonable. We will definitely be returning.

I didnt like it all. Old fashioned atmosphere , did not like the food and dont like not to know what is cost. I think $130 is way to much and the ice cream desert came right out of the factory. Espresso is strong and thick like chocolate, also not like I like it. Unbelievable that people give this restaurant such a high score.
