Ive been here for breakfast a number of times. The reviewer just below me must have had a really bad day. Its a relatively new place and is quite popular. The breakfast is sort-of gourmet, quality ingredients, with their own touch. For instance, the hash that Silas is so revolted by is certainly atypical, although it obviously takes a good deal more time to prepare than typical hash, and so you come to appreciate the thought put into each item. The pancakes are buckwheat, although they are done so well. Ive never had anything short of great. The coffee is Petes organic, which is important, because coffee is refined with a lot of chemicals, so it is one of the food products that is good to find organic. There is a breakfast and lunch menu; a small refrigerator with a nice selection of food stuffs, higher-end products, that sort; theres a bar, which is nice if youre looking to grab food in between hiking up in the area. Washington Depot is a very nice area, great place to spend the day, and this restaurant is a welcome addition. It does get busy for larger parties the Sundays Ive been there for breakfast, we always make a reservation for our party, which is usually 6 or more people. The lighting is dimmer, easy on the eye, and the building is historic. Certainly worth a visit, especially if you often go out to breakfast but are looking for a menu that deviates from the common way of preparing. Another very good breakfast place is in Woodbury, called Split Rail. They cook their food in the traditional fashion, although it is a deal and the best typical breakfast place Ive been to. Theyll cook you Andouille sausage eggs benedict for 6 or 7 dollars on request. That dish alone is worth the visit, and there are nice galleries and shops along Woodbury main street (the town has done a great job of keeping out franchises, and so has preserved a nice country feel).

Ordered the breakfast burrito and sandwich to go, then spied muffins and purchased 9 of them along with the whole apple pie on display. The restaurant was busy, standing room only, and the pie had to be unplated from its plate. By the time the two boxes were packed and all paid for, 20 minutes had elapsed. Everyone was friendly and customers kept coming in. My tab was $ 70 all told. When I got home, 45 minutes away, the burrito and sandwich were not included, but I was charged for them. The computer remembered, but staff forgot. The next morning at our staff meeting, I noticed the muffins were dated w a "sell by" sticky on the bottom of the plastic wrap. I realized they were frozen, and defrosted. They were bland, and very dense. The banana was ok, quite doughy, and likely made to keep for a while. Only two were eaten by my colleagues... The big disappointment was the pie. Underbaked with a pale low fat crust, the apples had no cinnamon or sugar, resulting in another bland experience. I rebaked it but there was too little sugar or fat to brown, so I then made a,quick carmelized sugar and whiskey sauce and poured it over. That helped it a bit. Will reach out to the restaurant about the forgotten sandwiches and hope theyll credit back my tab. Not sure Id go again, having only had dessert.

Went for breakfast, very limited menu primarily consisting of buckwheat pancakes eggs various ways and baked goods. It was a late breakfast at 9:45 on a Saturday morning they place was well under half full. Service started out quickly enough but went down hill from there. Glasses were never refilled had to hound the waitress for the check to get out of there. Half of our order came out the rest 5 minutes later. The food was fair, bacon comes out only warm and hard enough to turn into bacon bits for lunch salads. Luckily only 2 pieces were served so you did not have to endure eating that much of it. Hash browns were cold grated potatoes with no binder that I could detect and only a vague coloring or seasoning. Toasted cinnamon raisin bagel with cream cheese had been scared by possibly waving it near a toaster. Buckwheat pancakes were warm at least though a cold plate and tiny portion corrected that over site, it saving grace was a tasteful garnish of a few fresh berries. Everything was served on rather cold trapezoidal dishes. Pretty much this place has aspirations of fine dining without any of the attention to detail or execution that it requires.

Hidden Valley is our go to for tasty, and fresh organic food. They have yummy vegan options! Try their veggie chill with a side of chips, or their organic mushroom pizza with daiya cheese. I love the beet, apple, ginger juice. If you go for breakfast, try the tofu scramble with all the veggies. Salads are awesome and so fresh. You can tell that they care about the food and the community, because it shows. They have a mini market inside too, which is soo helpful in a town that closes down at 5:30. On the weekends you can get grocery staples, and some toiletries. The staff is super friendly and the place is always busy which speaks volumes about their food! Keep up the great work Hidden Valley! Washington is lucky to have you!

The food was pretty good. Id rate it 4 stars. The have gluten free options which is really good. The service was okay. Our waitress bummed the mood and seemed unenthusiastic but there was another waitress who was very cheerful. The place is beautifully decorated as well. The wait time for the food is what makes this rating so low. We arrived at 7:30pm and were seated immeadiatley. Our order was taken 7:45. The appetizers came 45 minutes later and the entrees at 8:52. I did not order an appetizer but still, the wait time is extremely unexceptable. Over an hour for food. Over an HOUR for food. Thats not exceptable. I would not recomend that you eat here until the wait time strongly improves or if you have no plans for the day.

We traveled 2 hours from N.Y. to treat my great Aunt to a birthday lunch today (7-20-16). All she wanted was a simple burger cooked medium. Burger arrived rare with dripping blood. This was brought to my attention by my great Aunt. The meat also had the smell of spoiled hamburger or meat that was left without refrigeration for an unacceptable period of time. This undercooked burger ruined her lunch as her appetite was lost. My wife also had a burger with the same foul smell. She also stopped eating immediately. Im Not very happy with the kitchen in this establishment. We will never eat here again.

We were passing through the area and were given a recommendation for this place to get a Sunday brunch. It was buzzing but the wait for a table was short (5 min) and they are very toddler-friendly. Excellent non-greasy food, great french toast, eggs, and pancakes. Hearty but healthy. Service was friendly and appropriate for the busy morning, we were never waiting for anything, nothing at all like what one reviewer below described. They also serve baked goods and to-go items in the shop area. This place is a little hidden treasure in the Litchfield hills. Well be back.

I live nearby and have gone to all the breakfast places in the area. This is such a great place and even if I lived farther away, I would drive the distance to come here. I am gluten free and like to eat mainly organic and this place has great options for the discerning eater. When my family comes for vacation they like to go here every morning (I am not sure what this says about my cooking?!) The buckwheat pancakes are light and amazing. I often have them or I like a great fresh salad with an egg on top. There is something for everyone here….lots of options.
