This review is a direct response to one M. Knapps running commentary, who had nothing but rude things to say which, if read w/even a modicum of familiarity w/the restaurant (or any, really), immediately became obvious as fabricated. To be fair, as a past employee of Alpenhaus Ive some bias, but at the same time I quit a good while ago. So while some might see this as unprofessional, I do not write this as that employee but, rather, as someone w/actual insight to the inner workings of the restaurant who still visits on a semi-regular basis: so as a knowledgable guest. Firstly, w/regards to the food: as a German who has grown up eating Bavarian specialities homemade by their Bavarian mother, &who lived in Germany for years, I can assure you that the food is authentic & true to taste. Is it as good as Omas or Muttis? No, but I wouldve been incredibly surprised if it were. Still, it is true to its origin, made w/good quality ingredients (antibiotic & hormone free meats), & just generally very tasty. Traditional dishes like sauerbraten, schnitzel, & rouladen, spätzle & apfelstrudel, are made from scratch & served w/care. Not quite sure how one would interpret such meals as being "mexican" unless one was lacking a repertoire of flavors varied enough w/which to make an informed decision (or simply efficiently functioning taste buds)... I mean just. Seriously? Secondly, as a person w/waitressing experience myself...if the waitstaff are so miserable, working under a "chubby", "boozy" manager, Im sure they would leave. Honestly, such ad hominum attacks are incredibly immature in their attempt to discredit the restaurant & its owners/staff. Ive waitressed for many years at various establishments, & from my own experience I know that chaos & a little bit of strife are common to restaurant work (& sometimes even more than just a little). But Ive never witnessed any waitstaff get "shrieked" at in front of guests & was never treated as such myself; nor have I seen any managerial staff treat guests w/anything less than genuine hospitality. To claim otherwise is just a plain lie. Alpenhaus prides itself on its strong relationships w/clientele, & it is for that very reason that theyve such a strong base of regulars. Was everything always perfect when I worked there? It would be naive to claim as much, but rest assured that any friction was normal: it came as a result of working in a hectic, stressful environment, was never meant personally or maliciously, & was always quickly resolved. In other words, Alpenhaus is just like every single other restaurant currently in existence. I also find it incredibly hard to believe that the kitchen would face so many issues w/so many dishes but all at only one table... if a kitchen is having a bad day, the entire restaurant will reflect as much w/multiple poor reviews -- not just one. One that, I might add, seems to focus quite heavily on kitchen staff. Which is perplexing as back of the house does not interact w/front of the house, especially not in the middle of dinner service. There is simply no time, & unless a guest specifically asks to speak w/the (head) chef then there is no interaction, & its rather ignorant to imply otherwise. Not only that, but any full-time kitchen will have alternating staff, so one employee will not have that huge of an impact w/their presence/lack thereof (unless a head chef) -- at least not on food. Certainly on timing, as things slow down w/any major changes, but quality will remain the same under the HEAD chef... This leads me to question the true intention of said reviewers original comment, but I digress. Is Alpenhaus perfect? No. But does it try to be? Yes. And does its managers, owners & staff deserve such a rude, false review written out of bitterness? Certainly not. Aplenhaus is a fun place to eat w/a friendly atmosphere, lovely waitstaff, & great food. I think M. Knapp needs to work on not being so translucent in their intentions, & I hope anyone considering Alpenhaus discounts their review for what it truly is: so etwas von unverschämt.

Very slow service. Dirty silverware. Fighting and foul language coming from the kitchen. Porter smelled like marijuana, waitresses were pleasant, however the "owner" a chubby blond woman had nothing but disdain for her staff. Mumbling under her breath, and flat out screeching at the staff one out if eye line. The one friendly kitchen member that was there for a long time seems to be gone. Which is unfortunate, as her bubbly personality and big bright smile breathed life into an otherwise dull drab overpriced restaurant. The new menu leaves a whole lot to be desired! The portions got smaller as the prices got larger. Our table of 5 recently sent 3 out of 5 orders back to the kitchen, and one was sent back twice and still came back wrong. Leading to a lack of appetite, and a trip up the street for a slice of pizza. With all the things that went wrong, there wasnt even an attempt to make "good" on our bad experience. No discount, or free dessert even. When asked to have food wrapped to go.. We then waited 37 minutes longer for a container to arrive. We did our best to leave a fair tip, as our waitress tried her best. But overheard the blond female owner make the comment "Good, now we might get less bitchy asses in the seats" I for one can say I have zero intentions of returning to the Alpenhaus. If I want to have a crappy overpriced meal served by someone who is being bossed around and belittled, and have to listen to foul language coming from the kitchen by some woman that smells like she has been marinating in a vat of booze.. I will microwave a TV dinner and watch "Hells Kitchen"! Save yourself $45 per person + and go somewhere else!! Besides, most everything on the menu tastes the same, its greasy, overly spiced, and isnt true German food! It almost has a Hispanic flare! I give itx5 thumbs down! With the exception of the wait staff!! Signed, Disappointed German. P.S. My Grandmother was German. She would highly disapprove of the feeble attempts!!!

Alpenhaus is 5 star from the moment you walk in until the time you leave. The food is second to none with a very authentic atmosphere and food selection as well as German beer selection. The staff was outstanding and the owners were both very personable and super friendly. I would recommend Alpenhaus to anyone looking for an authentic German meal and fast and friendly service!

Great food and service! Got a pork schnitzel with Rohm sauce for myself and my dad got sauerbraten. Really good! There was a bit too much salt on the pretzel we ordered as an appetizer, but it was so soft and fluffy that it still warrants 5 stars! Highly recommend!

Manuelas new restaurant (she closed Cafe Little Europa in Brookfield a few years ago) is the best German restaurant in CT by far. My family and I had such a nice time there last week. Great food and wonderful service by Manuela and Vincent. Highly recommended.

Absolutely Fantastic! We were there in Mid-May 2014 and the place was very busy, but they managed to seat us on time, and were very polite. The food was excellent, and I hope they are here for many years to come!
