I went to this restaurant in May 2010 with my mom. Being on the lake was a nice touch and I love old diners. However there was something seriously wrong with the coffee - maybe the dishes had soap on them still or something with the water. When I tried to tell the waitress, she got all defensive, said if it was salty it must be because of their water. Then she announced to the woman that seemed to run the place that we said the coffee wasnt good. Instead of trying to find out what went wrong, she just exclaimed "Thats a first!" and made us feel like we did something wrong. We got other drinks and they still charged us for the coffee. The breakfast food came and it was so greasy, it was almost unedible. For those vegetarians out there, I think they also cook their home fries in animal fat. Also I believe they are hand washing their dishes and in general the place had an unclean feeling. Anyway with a stomach ache from the greasy food, we left and paid 16.50 for an order of french toast with sausage and an order of two eggs, no meat which I also found to be quite expensive. Yuck I would NEVER go there again despite the quaint lakeside view.

I get the impression this is a family business, and I love to support them, so I give them my business whenever I can - far more than chains that have displaced so many. But I am moved to write - the food here was so bad, and overpriced (ten bucks for an omelette at a diner?) It is quite difficult, actually, to ruin an omelette - the only thing you can do to wrong is forget youre cooking it and take a call from a long lost relative, then suddenly remember it was on the grill. Mine looked like wallpaper scraped off an old bedroom. The service was harder to locate than the missing funds from the mortgage meltdown - I can live with that, if you bring me things Ill actually need - like silverware - with the food When I finally got up in frustration, I found the manager and two long lost waitpersons - reviewing photos on on an iphone and laughing together. Sorry, guys - the Lakeside is very personal, homey, cute and charming - with a view that is very special ("Lake" "Side") and I wanted so much to support it, but...

While traveling through Conneticutt I found this place that has given me one of the most memorable momoents in my life. the first thing I noticed which made me have to stop is the beautiful lake surrounded by tall autumn trees. Ducks and gulls are enjoying their morning and then I realized that there are a lot of cars and no one in sight but there is this small little diner. Stepping inside you feel taken back to a time when the world was not so busy and you hear the laughter and see the faces of many happy "regulars" all known by Jane the owner. I noticed that there were doughnuts on the counter and I love fresh doughnuts so I had to try one (I am diabetic but hey these were worth it) I ended up eating 3 with my coffee and loved every bite. Jane made sure I had the best ones and picked each one just for me. I love the diner experiance and this one was great. I will be back and I think you need to try this place even if you have to drive a long way to get there.

We was looking for a homey diner experience, and this looked like it might be just the place. It had a great location. It was little and quite busy, but that is what many great diners are like. The service was nothing special, which often times is what creates a great dining experience. The food that we had ranged from average (a grilled ham and cheese sandwich) to poor (the chili, the hot dog). The chili was basically ketchup with ground beef. The water served with the meal had a sulfur-y taste, suggesting that it was likely well water. Also - cash only. Fortunately, there is a bank next door. Overall, an unsatisfying experience - we would have been better off just going to the Dunkin Donuts across the street.

It doesnt look like much and the inside is crowded and run down, but the people who work there are very friendly and the food is good. I had a patty melt that was great and my wife had an omlet that she really liked. I ordered onion rings and they were good too. The fries that came with my sandwich were just average. Their homemade sugar donughts are fantastic. I wish it was closer so I could stop in and get a dozen once in a while. They dont take credit cards, but there is an Bank of America ATM next door.

HORRIBLE. I came with my very pregnant wife for breakfast. There was an empty 2 persons table open but they didnt want to give it to us because she wanted to accommodate a table of 4 that btw came after us. I asked the owner, the old lady, if we can have a table quick because my wife was pregnant and her answer were to wait in line because one group was before us. Which again they were not. Now food wise, its average at best. These people need some lessons about decency, common sense and cooking.

Beware - cash only! When I asked where that was posted, she said "thats what were known for". There is no sign. Youd think a restaurant would be known for good food or good service. This place is known for neither of these things. Bring cash when you come or be prepared to pay $3 fee at the Bank of America next door. Or dont come here at all. The best part is the lake but you can enjoy that without coming here to eat.

A worker snapped at us when we tried to take an empty table - she wanted to seat us herself. Couldnt understand our server, and she couldnt understand us. Our server tried to give our food to the wrong table - the table behind us - yet she was the one that took our order. Never got a coffee refill. Place is kind of dirty. Everything you touch is sticky. My breakfast was not good. At least the view is nice.

Fantastic old school diner with a great lake view and even better food! We had a farmers omelet and grilled bacon, tomato and cheese sandwich with a side of sausage. Everything was delicious! Wish I lived near this place! It looks like people come got their donuts and they have a pretty big lunch menu as well but I cant comment on those. If youre considering a rest stop vs some real food, STOP HERE!

I grew up just up the street and we used to walk down as a family in snowstorms to pick up groceries at Post and a bag of hot and delicious old fashioned donuts. I love you, Lakeside Diner. I mean it. Please dont ever change or close. It would be a piece of my life you take with you. This I beg of you.

Stopped by on our way threw Connecticut and very pleased we did. Corned beef was homemade, potatoes were seasoned wonderfully. Breakfast burrito was tastey and the waffles/pancakes were enjoyed. The place is small with little seating but a nice atmosphere with friendly staff made this place great.
