Just left after experiencing the worst customer service!! My boyfriend and I ordered breakfast and two smoothies. When we got our smoothies they were very hot & warm, so we waited until the waiter came back and asked for ice or even another round. He said sure no problem. About 10 mins after this woman came up to us extremely combative and argumentative basically saying it was OUR fault because we waited half an hour and now its room temperature. I stayed quiet at first because she was talking to my boyfriend and he was simply explaining to her that as soon as we got them they were warm. Her response was "well they were made with ice so theres no way they were warm ...and "well Im gonna charge you anyway. She repeated herself at least three times mentioning its room temperature even looked at her watch saying its been 30 mins. (It was not 30 minutes) until I finally had to tell her no the smoothies were warm when we first got them which is why theyre filled to the top still. I got so frustrated that I ended up telling her to forget it. Instead of a back and forth argument and debate to finally just say "I can bring u another one"...she could have just said "ok no problem Ill bring u another one" like any establishment with normal customer service skills would have. We were so turned off we said never mind and just asked for the check . When walking to pay we were stared at by this woman and her two other female employees. What ever happened to the customer is always right or decent customer service skills. Will never return and I live in town , will make sure I tell all my neighbors about this place. If I could give 0 stars I would. I didnt wake up to go have breakfast to argue with anyone on a beverage Im paying for.

My brother and I noticed the "new management" sign on the Lantern so we decided to try it out. I ordered a Reuben sandwich without sauerkraut. My brother ordered breakfast, my sandwich came open and the meat did not cover the bread. I flagged down our waiter and told him I have never seen a skimpier Reuben. A man came over (owner/manager) first he said that is the way it looks when you do not get sauerkraut. I stated I had Reuben before without sauerkraut, the meat does not even cover the bread. He told me there was 8 ounces of on the sandwich, I told him I seriously doubt that. He also said that is what you get for $9.00 and left. I decided I was going to take it home and weigh it. He came back and said “you don’t like the sandwich?” and I informed him I was going to bring it home and weigh it. He leaves and comes back with more meat stating it was 6 ounces. We asked for them to bring us container to go. As my brother was going to pay he asked me “Did he (owner/manager) not say your sandwich was $9.00” The bill reflected $11.95. We inquired at the cashier, she asked the owner/manager and said she was going to charge $9.00 He came over and got confrontational. My brother said just charge us what is on the bill. He walked away saying it should be a $15.00 sandwich those prices are 3 years old. I got home and weighed the sandwich (2 slices of rye bread, meat and 2 full slices of Swiss cheese) 9.5 ounces. And the extra meat he brought over saying it was 6 ounces was 3 ounces.

Typical good diner. Warm friendly server, super mega-extensive menu, average food, and large serving sizes. Lets face it. Diners are not about to win the "best food award" but theyll make a solid gyro or burger. The staff here is wonderful. Truly wonderful. Accommodating and friendly. New York Burger: B+ My "New York Burger" was great -- I asked for medium rare, and thats exactly what I got. Ive been to steakhouses that couldnt get that right, so kudos for you, Lantern. Unfortunately, they charge extra for lettuce and tomato on a burger and call it "deluxe", which is a MASSIVE PET PEEVE OF MINE. Despite what the menu advertised, the cheddar wasnt sharp, but it was OK. The bacon was quite special -- I believe this is slab bacon cut by either the restaurant or its supplier. The bacon is very thin, crispy, not salty in the slightest, with a very serious smoky flavor. Corned Beef Hash: A- Tasted very fresh. I think this is homemade -- Id be surprised if it were canned corned beef hash. Had a more "healthy aura" to it. Buckwheat Pancakes: A- Amazing. Could easily be eaten without syrup. Meatloaf: B- Didnt care for it. Wasnt very flavorful at all. I think they intend for the dipping gravy to provide for the majority of the flavor.

Concise Report: Unsanitary flooring, counter tops, roaches running across the floor. If you want "honesty" here it is. If you cannot agree, complain. Did I really have to know from the waitress that she was having housing problems ? That she resided in a basement nearby, her landlord was a ******* This comes from a former WESTHEMPSTEAD FIREFIGHTER The Lantern Diner Needs to install roach motels, get a real porter or properly instruct their staff of idiots to perform a sanitary cleaning, ever watch Robert Irvine or Gordon Ramsey, and the Kitchens they show on Television, this is one of those Diners. My next inspection, will or will not remove this report. We feel the public has a Exclusive right to know where they are eating.

I visited here about two weeks ago. The service was horrible! I ordered a plate with ham and was given turkey. It did not look that fresh ontop of being the wrong order!! I immediately returned it and had to flag the oblivious waiter down that the order was wrong. A few minutes later, the plate of ham and cheese bagel I ordered came. While eating sections of the bagel, I noticed a dark piece in the cheese. I carefully pulled it out with my fork and it was green, iridescent bottle fly! So so disgusting!! DO NOT GO HERE!! I showed the waiter and showed him it had eyes and wings. So gross!! IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR FAMILYS HEALTH PICK ANOTHER PLACE!

Open 24/7. Food is very good, plus they give you free starters (a simple beets or chick peas salad typically), bread basket. Check both the daily specials sheets and the regular menu as they often have the same thing in two places, but at a higher and lower price. Odd, I know. Staff is great, and they only seem to hire people who smile a lot, too! We ate there tonight in fact. If you order a typical dinner special, expect enough food that you can take much of it home with you, for another meal the next day. ( Ask for boxes to take good home, and if its on your table, you can take anything uneaten.)

Need a prostitute? A drunk or sober one? Then this place is for you. SMH.... Disgusting. The food? Oh yeah I forgot they serve food there. Ummmmm...Yeah I guess if you want regular overpriced diner food then go here. They have the best warm diet Coke I have ever tasted. You want ice with that Coke? Good luck, the ice machine is probably still broken. Too bad there are no stores around there to go buy ice. Its Hempstead turnpike, there is nothing close by.
