While we were in Norwalk, we intentionally tried a different restaurant for every meal. We stuck to this plan until we tried Local Kitchen and Beer Bar in the South Norwalk (SONO) neighborhood right near the SONO Railroad Bridge. After stopping in once and sampling a variety of menu items, we just had to go back again the next day before we headed out of town. We mainly dined on their small plates all of which are available in two sizes, little and lots. Offering small plates/appetizers in 2 sizes is something I wish more restaurants did. Sometimes you want to sample a bunch of stuff, other times you just want a single appetizer for yourself or to share. Our two favorites were the Thai Popcorn Chicken and the Crab & Artichoke Fondue. With bacon, smoked gouda and a little sriracha, the fondue is something that I’d buy by the gallon if I could! On both visits we had a seat by the windows which allowed for people watching on the pedestrian heavy Washington Street and a fun view of the railroad bridge. While I’m not a beer drinker, they obviously have quite a beer selection as well. Their “bourbon room” is definitely something that might be worth a visit at a later date.

Ive eaten here several times. One of my favorites was for brunch. I ordered the brunch burger (which was a new special item) and it was delicious. The combination of different items on it was just the perfect blend and it was huge. Someone else ordered the pulled pork sliders and they were also very good; great balance of pork, sauce, slaw and bread. But perhaps the best item we got was the Cajun fries (although they technically arent a menu item; we had to request them). These fries were just right, and combined with some of the best honey mustard Ive ever had, it was perfection. I think I couldve eaten an entire meal of these things. Another good thing about this place is the vast selection of different drinks. Theyve got an awesome variety of local and distant beers. And I cant forget the mac n cheese they offer here that has peas and ham in it. I never thought Id like peas in mac n cheese, but this place changed my mind; what a great combo!

I have visited Local many times and have always loved it. My feelings have changed since my most recent visit Sunday night 12/6. I work at a restaurant in Norwalk and wanted to enjoy a few drinks and food after a long day at work. My co-worker and only stayed for one drink due to the terrible service we received at the bar. The bartender was rude, drunk and acted as if serving us was a burden. He was more focused on gossiping with the manager and staff. Being in the business its nice sometimes to go out and be waited on...We deal with drunks everyday when were behind the bar we shouldnt have to when were on the other side. I love the food and beer selection at Local and am upset to have had such a bad experience

Loved this spot! I didnt try the food but watched a lot of people throw down on some great grub (just drinks for me). I LOVE the interior - train themed with a very cool train track/trestle over the bar. Great staff - an older gentleman came in who wanted to sit at the windows and I noticed how the waitress really went out of her way to make sure he was taken care of. I love the SONO theme - Im sure its crazy on the weekends but Monday night was delightful & quietish while I was there from 5:30 to 7pm

Nicely decorated and low prices but chef needs some work. Went for Sunday brunch and ordered chicken and waffles. The normally crispy dish arrives in a disgusting puddle of soup and quickly falls apart and turns into slop. The waitress noticed I didnt eat much and tells me she normally tells tables she takes the other plate its served on and removes the chicken and waffles so they dont do exactly what happened to me... and doesnt offer to comp

Dropped by for brunch on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised by the phenomenal service from Zac. After inquiring about my wifes food preferences he surprised her with selection of food that has her calling this place her new favorite place to eat in town. The short ribs, brussels sprouts, fried mashed potatoes and chicken & waffles were all excellent and we cant wait to explore the rest of the menu!

They have a great beer selection. The bartenders are always fun to have conversations with. The place feels kind of cozy even with the train outside. The train track/bridge like decor inside blends well to make it a better experience. The food is good, and they put a good twist on traditional items.

Great beer selection. Huge, open-ceilings and a second floor make for a good atmosphere. Limited, yet different menu. The tattooed bartender had the personality (and slight resemblance) of Geoffrey Zakarian...that is arrogant yet knowledgeable, a delicate combination.

Great spot for small plates and great pub fare. They serve up bar classics along with some other inventive and different options - all done well. Excellent rotating draft selection with some rare local favorites...if you have enough of a heads up to snag a pint.

Disco Fries are delicious! The Short Rib burger was good, the combo of the fried egg, burger and short rib is nice but not amazing 4/5. The wait staff was kind, friendly and attentive. Nice casual atmosphere. Would highly recommend over all.

Local has a very good beer selection, and an extensive whiskey menu. If you are into craft beer and want to eat some decent pub fare, this is a good choice.

Loud. Good beer selection. Seems like they purposefully hire staff that is generally indifferent to the customer in both this and the Fairfield location.

Went for a birthday party in the back room that was sort of catered so I dont know about the price but I loved the food, atmosphere and location on SoNo.

This place just served me one of the best burgers Ive had in a while: the Cannonball burger. Good beer and bourbon selection too. Good spot!

Fun atmosphere and good for a young crowd. I liked their food better before their menu change but there are still some good things.

Unlimited mimosas brunch is good. Beware that the flavors they suggest to add to the mimosas come at an additional cost.

Fantastic bar for drinks and they have a whiskey bar in the back. Food is good, but not the staple for this bar.
