I went to Oaxaca kitchen for the first and only time about one year ago. I went with my husband and some of our friends to have dinner. We decided to go there because the place was new in town and the majority of people gave a positive feedback from their experiences. Nevertheless, our experience was not that good. The food is very good, although a little bit overpriced. I specially recommend the duck that was cooked to perfection. But the good experience stopped there for us. The ambiance was extremely noisy. They had very loud music playing and, for that reason, people had to speak very loud if they want to have a conversation. The service is not good. It took us forever to have someone coming over to our table and taking our order. The food took as long to arrive at the table. We asked sangria to drink while waiting for the food and, for our "amusement", my husband got a huge piece of plastic in his sangria. We called the waiter at once and explained what was happening. He apologized and brought us another jar of sangria. The same thing happen, this time with me. We asked to speak with the manager. To our table arrived an overexcited man, mid-twenties, that excuse himself for the issue by saying that they cut tones of fruit per day and that is something that can happen. He reacted like it was not that a big deal. Guess what, Mr.? It is a great of a deal to serve your clients pieces of plastic! We were expecting that they didnt charge for the sangria, given the circumstances. But they did charge and for both jars! They lost 6 clients that day but I guess that is not a big deal.

My 3 friends from Washington D.C. Came up to visit and I choose this place for us to eat, also along with 4 other mutual friends from CT; altogether totaling 7 people. When we got there not many ppl were there, but somehow the service was still extremely slow. It took 20 minutes to get water. 15 more minutes to get out ginger ales. 45 minutes to place the order and 2 hours for it to be brought to the table. It was also wrong orders for many of us. I ordered a shrimp dish that came with with rice and sauce. I asked for mashed sweet potatoes on the side, instead they put the mashed sweet potatoes with corn in it and in the sauce with shrimp around it. Who would ever think to want that?! and I asked for rice 3 times so I could eat what was apart of the entree and they never brought it. We sat there for 2 hours waiting for our food, very hungry. Other big parties came to eat and could hear them complaining, and one party got up to leave after waiting an hour and a half. It was a very disappointing experience and a bit embarrassing to have brought my friends there from out of town. This was also the day after new haven restaurant week. Not sure if they were understaffed or not use to serving a party of 7 but I but I would not back again.

Ive gone to this place 3 times and the first two times the service was ok, the food wasnt anything special and the prices seem a little over priced. Then the 3rd time i went with a big group and it was comical how bad the service was. we were ignored all night and then told the kitchen was closed. Then after we convinced them to make us food he got orders wrong, forgot to get my girlfriends entire meal, and got every drink order wrong(how do you mess up beer?) then it even took about 30 minutes just to get the check. i gave two stars because by the end of the night we were all laughing at how bad this place was, so we did get a good laugh out of it all

My friend and I decided to try out Oaxaca Kitchen for dinner one night during the week and I am so glad that we did. We made a reservation and arrived around 5:15pm on a Tuesday. When we arrived, we were the only customers and were seated right away. The server was VERY attentive, providing us with chips and drinks immediately. When our food arrived, it was delicious. I only ordered two tacos with a side of beans, but my friend ordered a dish with scallops and mole which she reported was amazing. We each had two drinks a piece. The server would often come by the table to check on us and overall it was a wonderful experience.

I ordered the zucchini soup with Poblano peppers. It tasted like salsa verde. My friend ordered tortilla soup. It tasted like red sauce youd put on your food...which we did because it was also served with our fajita sides and the shrimp was also cooked in it. The rice and beans were also served on the same sizzling plate as fajitas, which Ive never seen before. Although pricey, the food wasnt bad, but it wasnt Mexican, it felt like I was eating Indian food, which I could have gotten at an Indian restaurant, if I wanted Indian food.

Oaxacas food is not like the rest of the Mexican Food. Its real. The guacamole is awesome, and they make it to your liking at your table. The meats all have their own flavor, so the meal isnt relying on the sauce or spices added to it to taste good. Ingredients are fresh. Its not like some restaurants do Mexican: where all you taste is the cheese and spices. Its not greasy, or sloppy. They also have a decent happy hour. Also, they validate parking if you park in the Temple Street Garage.

A very enjoyable American Mexican restaurant. We enjoyed a very nice meal with tacos, burritos and fajitas ordered. My fish tacos were tasty and well sauced and spiced. Well worth a trip as the food is plentiful and well cooked. Enjoy.

Great gourmet spin on Mexican. Not necessarily authentic, you need to go to Mezcal for that, but very good and high quality food.
