Normally this place would have five stars because Ive been coming here for nearly ten years and have always loved it. Its reliably got great sushi, good service, and thoughtful decor. Down to three because my most recent trip was really disappointing; appetizers took about 45 minutes to come out with no apology from the staff, and it was hard to enjoy the sushi when I could literally feel the fruit flies bouncing off of me as they buzzed about. I truly hope this was an aberration because it is otherwise known as one of the best spots in New Haven for Japanese food.

I thought the exuberant prices might be indicative of supreme quality, but I was wrong. The chef tried to pawn off regular white rice as sushi rice; aside from the hamachi (yellowtail), all the fish smelled fishy and the cuts were tough and flavorless. Although the atmosphere is sophisticated and the overall presentation is quite nice, the service is lackluster and the menu is entirely overpriced. If you want extraordinary and affordable sushi, go to Sono Bana in Hamden instead.

1 star is the lowest the rating could go, otherwise, I would have rated miso a 0 star... Serving size was tiny, found a bug crawling on the table!! server was horrendously rude, food tasted worse than mediocre. Moreover, as ridiculous as this sounds; after lunch we were scorned by our server, who tirelessly followed us a few blocks because we left a 16% tip, (he blatanly demanded a 20% tip?!) Worst experience ever. Stay away at all costs!

Felt sick after 2 out of 3 visits. Their food quality is equivalent to panda express but in a nicely renovated space with very dim light so you cant see what you are REALLY eating. food is not bad, fast-food kind of tasty, but has nothing to do with real Japanese. Service is so-so, owner definitely showed off his ownership in his attitude. free parking is a lie, there is a $2 charge on your bill. i wouldnt go back, there are better places.

Food was good and fresh (4 stars of 5), but this place is ridiculously overpriced for sushi. $8-10 for basic sushi rolls (California, spicy salmon, etc.). As a benchmark, comparable quality Japanese restaurants in NYC charge $5-7 for these types of rolls. I would come here more often if they drop the prices, at least for takeout food...I am not the first person to state this...management should listen to its customers.

I ordered the vegetarian ramen when I first came here and it tasted great. The second time I came here, I ordered sushi which was quite disappointing. The sushi had fresh fish but it was pretty much flavorless, the sushi was quite expensive and not worth the money. The reason that Im putting 4 stars instead of 3 is because the food is pretty good overall and the employees are nice, the place is also pretty & neat.

For a restaurant that serves mediocre food at best, Miso certainly charges exuberant prices for all of its dishes. Might I add that service is practically non-existent, yet the restaurant somehow feels justified in charging an automatic 20% tip. Come on now, were not even talking about an upscale restaurant here! I definitely recommend staying away from this place - your money is better spent elsewhere.

The hot tea has a comforting toasted aroma under the green tea flavor. The rolls that combine flavors--tempura on the inside, eel on the outside, etc.--are especially tasty, though I ask them to hold the mayo. If you like fried banana, dont miss this tempura banana with vanilla ice cream. The service is always quietly attentive and efficient, and the atmosphere is sophisticated yet warm.

Best sushi place in New Haven by far. Unfortunately not saying much, since its main competitors are trying-to-be-quirky-to-a-fault Miyas and the more maki-focused Sushi on Chapel. But the fish is fresh and the rice is well seasoned - certainly no major complaints. Their cocktails leave a rather spacious room for improvement, however.

Amazing sushi, but you need to ask the chef/waitstaff for recommendations and specials to get the standout stuff. Ive had the omakase menus at Nobu and Morimoto, and Misos food is just as good. Standout non-nigiri dishes include the tuna sandwich, the fried oysters, and the seafood soup.

I think this is the best sushi in the New Haven area-- fresh fish, well prepared, magnificent rolls, and excellent appetisers (try the tuna sandwich). I always leave here wondering why I ever eat anyplace else. I havent eaten the other food, but companions say it is very good also.

First we were appalled by the fact that the waiter did not know basic sushi terms. When the sushi arrived were were shocked to eat rice that was so vinegary that we all made faces like we were sucking on lemons.

Not sure what the deal is with the lukewarm ratings. This place is hands-down the best sushi spot in New Haven. Sure it is pricey, but you get what you pay for.

A little overrated and overpriced - swankier than its food suggests it should be.
