This is fantastic restaurant. Its a better version of york street noddle. Its unbelievably cheap, take out chinese costs more. Their thai iced tea is only $1.95. (york st noddle is $1.75). the decor is beautiful, its the reason why i didnt go there at first, it was so nice that i thought that it was going to be an expensive restaurant. The noddle soups are delicious, more flavorly and less broth than york st. It was not greasy at all. I have also tried the mango chicken over rice, which I really liked. Its just a longer walk for me than york st noddle, otherwise Id go twice weekly. Much better hours, open until 11pm, impt since so many new haven restaurants close super early. they have take out too, which I have not done.

Umm, I read all the great reviews about this place and thought I had to try it. I ordered the pad Thai with medium spice and drunken noodles- both dishes usually have tons of flavor anywhere else you would order them. Thats not the case here. The pad Thai was so plain it was literally as if they boiled plain noodles and threw some mixed vegetables into it, not to mention I ordered it with medium spice- Ive had salads with more spice than this. The drunken noodles had a touch more flavor than the pad thai, but Ive had MUCH better. Not impressed at all, I will not be ordering from here again unless they hire new chefs that cook with flavor.

Basil is WAY underpriced for the quality of food theyre serving. Best scallion pancakes in town (crispy on the outside but still just right on the inside), and I probably eat the broccoli in garlic sauce almost once every week. The atmosphere and service are super casual, but the food is absolutely superior. Perfect spot both for a delicious meal with friends (the menu is expansive and everybody has their own favorite dish - theres something for everything), and for inexpensive takeout. Definitely check this place out!

Tried this place due to good reviews here. Big variety of Asian food. Ordered roast duck & roast pork (#99) for $8 and beef chow fun (#40) for $8. Both have good taste and is in line with Cantonese taste. Cant say the best Ive eaten, but for the price, you cant beat anywhere near New Haven. Order was ready in 10 min, hot and friendly & efficient staff. Would definitely be back to try more dishes. See posted photos of the dishes and and menu.

For awhile, this was our quick and reasonably priced dinner spot. We fell out of that habit, bit recently found ourselves starving at an hour most other restaurants were closed. Basil was open, still fast, and priced to where we could try a bunch of things from their admittedly massive menu. Everything was at least good, and a couple items like the pork bun really stood out.

This place is a GEM! I have been there countless times and plan to go back. I highly recommend: Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, Turnip Cakes, and the Scallion Pancake. Each have a deliciously distinct flavor and make excellent sides for the rest of your meal! Drink recommendations: Avocado or Almond Bubble Tea!

Face it, S&B: youre a seafood restaurant and over cook the fish, maybe you need to go back to square one. The oysters were wonderful, chowder was good but the favors too complex, chorizo with halibut just didnt work. The coctails were very good, as was the service.

Delicious Asian food for very cheap. Location is a bit off from the rest of downtown New Haven but worth the short walk. Staff were very friendly. Only negative was that the bobba tea was very sweet and artificial tasting.

I loved Basil! Their drunken noodle was excellent. The place is very casual, and though it has ample seating, I feel like a substantial amount of their business is takeout. Theyre quick, inexpensive and so delicious!
