I dont usually write reviews, but the new owners had approached our table and chatted with us for a few mins stating that they wanted feedback good or bad, we had a few mishaps with our drink orders, but overall our waiter was very attentive, our biggest gripe, is that it took over an hr, to receive our food, maybe 15 diners in restaurant, 4 being kids, we had nothing to munch on, looking back I realized that I should have got cornbread with combo platter but didnt; ( we ordered wings as an app but where told it was coming with order, there are alot of restaurant choices in old saybrook, clinton, etc. If you want people to drive to moodus, you need to make sure the kitchen can get the food out, hire an expo, runner, etc on weekends, or at least provide cornbread or something to munch on, we were busy conversing, but after an hr, the talk dries up, when the food arrived it was good, brisket great; ) chicken a little dry, the macaroni, ate some of my mothers;) was worth the drive:) next time I will order a side of that, very creamy, cheesy, with bacon, so to turn this visit to super, just get the food out faster, moister chicken, and wheres the cornbread? Every bbq place should serve some

Hilltop Barbecue has been a mediocre place to dine as it is so close to our house. However, I went there today and had the worst dining experience ever. I ordered a chili cup and the waitress came out with a bowl which would have been ok if not compounded with other issues. My meal was a chicken cutlet sandwich. The chicken was so overcooked that it taste like rubber. My son and I went there for a quick bite after his baseball practice and had to be home before 8:00p.m. If we didnt have to be home I would have sent the chicken back to the kitchen for another. To top it off, the waitress took my credit card without me looking at the receipt and charged us for somebody elses meal double what our meal cost. She voided out the transaction however it will tie up my money for the next 3 days until I receive the credit. The 1 time that I trusted the waitress as she walked away from me I got burnt. This is the last time I will be visiting this food establishment.

Hilltop BBQ is exactly what East Haddam needed. A great place to enjoy delicious BBQ and Steaks. This place completely remodeled, clean, friendly staff and large enough to welcome everyone inside and out on the new patio. With an extensive list of BBQ sauces, wings (sweet bourbon yum) and menu options that don’t disappoint. The Ive eaten here a few times each time exceeding my expectations. Most recently the rib eye, cooked to perfection, excellent flavor which rivals most. Dinners come with a salad and several homemade dressings to choose from and a list of side dish choices you won’t go home hungry. The collard greens and beans are just a few of my favorites. The wine food and sprit prices are more than fair and defiantly rival most places in and around town. If you are looking for great food @ a great price with nice atmosphere and friendly conversation, this is the place.

Hilltop BBQ used be actually good about a few months back, but then they changed owners and thats when it went downhill. I ordered there a couples times since and the chicken was inedible by that mean raw. The mac and cheese tasted like the microwavable one. In addition to the food being gross, the service was awful. I ordered to go and the bar tender was outside smoking a cigarette when my food was ready and getting cold. So please do yourself a favor and avoid this restaurant at all choice and go elsewhere. Hopefully, by writing this review the past owners of Hilltop will come back and the food will be decent once again.

This place is a hit! From the moment you walk in, your in a warm, inviting space, surrounded with charm and the smell of great barbeque. It seems like every detail has been covered to perfection, from their mouth watering BBQ, cornbread, homemade Chili and great cocktails, this place has it all. The Hilltop has a casual atmosphere, where you are sure to come away full and excited to have experienced this treasure in Moodus. I am pleased to say, we have returned several times having their BBQ, Catfish, Prime Rib and even their wonderful Steak salad. Each time it has been noting short of perfect.

Nice facility, but limited menu. Fried offerings are very salty, waitresses dont know what kind of fish is offered, and, most surprising of all, steaks (4 out of 4) are consistently and significantly overcooked. The steaks also appear to be common supermarket-grade ("choice") beef - very tough, hard to chew and limited in taste. For a restaurant with "Steakhouse" in its name, I would expect no less than prime-grade beef. Dining companions also found chicken and ribs to be dry and over-cooked - the chicken more so than the ribs. Nice selection of BBQ sauces.

Take out order was bad. The Nacho Platter was dry and over cooked and they forgot the salsa and sour cream. My husband drove back to get it. Her excuse was that she was so busy making sure the bbq sause was in the bag she forgot the rest. The delux macn cheese was also try. The menu talks about 5 cheese. It was so dry you couldnt taste anything but dried noodle. The entire experience was so bad we couldnt enjoy our dinner and it ruined our night. The bill came to $90. Im disappointed.

We ordered as takeout. Beer batter shrimp were soaked with oil. There was actually a puddle in the bottom of container. The St. Louis ribs tasted like they had been in the fridge for awhile and were just reheated. Both dinners were inedible. It was a hot day and we were traveling with two small dogs. My wife remained outside with them. Tried to order some water in a bottle or disposable cup of some sort and they didnt even have that. Will not be coming back any time soon.

Firstly we waited about 10 to 15 minutes before anybody realized that we were sitting at a table. The host / Hostess wasnt there yet so we seated ourselves. The food wasnt quite what we expected it was pretty bland and it came out lukewarm rather than hot. I wouldnt say was terrible but it wasnt really special. Seems like its the local Watering Hole. The place looks really nice and has a lot of potential but the management / wait staff leaves a lot to be desired.

Mediocre at best...the service was slow, the food was not very good- maybe I should give another chance as I only have ordered take out food, but even then I have received my food fresh from being made and live a five minute drive away and was still left disappointed twice

I mean for Moodus I guess the food is okay, but Id rather drive a little bit farther to get a better meal for the same price. Their food is mediocre at best and the service is slow. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.
