We had a nice night at Herd. The meal we had was very good. Fried oysters, house made pork belly, flat iron steak, soft shelled crab special, and poached pear. Everything was well cooked. Seafood was fresh and not overcooked, and the steak was done a perfect medium rare. The flavors were good, but not quite balanced. The crab showed some real talent, and sense of whimsy. Poached pear was nice and not too sweet thankfully, but it was cold. The decor is nice and modern, and matched the theme the owner was going for. The location is nothing special, and the Christmas lights in the window were not needed. Drinks were well made. Our server, and the service overall was excellent. We will be back. This restaurant seems like it is on the right track.

We were here about 2 months after they opened and we definitely loved the food and were not impressed with the service. decided we would give it another chance as we were really excited to have a steak house in Middletown. Over a year later the same result food was very good, wine was good but the service absolutely sucked, long wait times, ran out of all specials. Very sad to see but I think they need some new management with restaurant experience. I hope they do what is needed to get the help they need and make this a great place. :0(

The service was horrible!The wait staff was inexperienced and lousy. My server "Kelsey" was rude and inconsiderate. She also dropped sliver ware and plates. In my 62 years of going out to dinner I have never ever had a meal so lousy and tasteless. And then the person I was dining with got sick the next day after eating the food. To all the people that are considering trying this restaurant, I would strongly suggest you go to a different restaurant.

Lackluster experience this past weekend.. service was slow and food could have been better. My boyfriends steak was cooked well but mine was very rare to the point I did not want to eat it, and our server Lindsay just said "ohhh Im sorry"... it wouldnt have been hard to ask the cooks to put it back on the grill?? She didnt refill our waters and she tried to rush us out. We just paid $150+, we can sit and relax after dinner!

Fantastic start! Delicious entrees--try the tuna and green garbanzos--balanced, fresh and yummy. The strip steak was cooked perfectly, too. Calamari is tasty and even sauteed for a guest who eats gluten-free. The meatball appetizer is crazy good, and the porkbelly was on a puree of carrot and something super-tasty--maybe peppers and tomatoes? Awesome--well be back.

Everything is a little "sweet". Its good, however not amazing. I am not writing home about it. Service was attentive. Drinks were weak until we asked for less ice. Tasty though. This place is overall ok and are on the cusp of being very good. Needs fine tuning and close attention by the owners to become something of mention.

Very courteous and knowledgeable staff and the bartender is outstanding. This is a must eat at establishment if you are in the area. A big thumbs up to the establishment and the chef who came out to inform my wife and I of the local brewery.

The service was great! Good food and surprisingly good wine. The sauce served on the side with the New York strip steak was superfluous, but the dish itself was tasty. I am definitely coming back to try more.
