Better than Starbucks Colorado Springs Food Guy found a coffee house that is better than Starbucks. I visited The Perk Downtown Coffee and Tea House located at 14 S Tejon Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. The coffee tastes fresh and that is because they own a roasting house just a few blocks away. Their baristas are friendly, super nice and very knowledgeable. I sampled several beverages during my visit. The sweet vanilla Chi Tea was robust and very satisfying. The lattes were made to perfection. The tropical smoothie was made with fresh fruits that you could taste with every sip. The shop has great décor and is very clean. There is also outside seating on both floors for warm summer days. However, the people are what make this coffee house better than rest. Everyone, from the patrons to the owners, Don and Kay Heaberlin, was very warm and inviting. If you need to take a quick break or just need a place where you can unwind, the Perk Downtown is the place to go. They have live performances by local artists. The Perk Downtown has great coffee and tea at great prices in addition to their wonderful service. HORRIBLE experiences there! I had two completely unrelated incidents where their staff was so incredibly outwardly rude to me . . . one staff member almost came across the counter at me. I wrote a letter to the owner and asked for an apology and was completely ignored. I stayed away then eight years later, I decided to try them again. This time, I had another staff person tear into me. Unprovoked and beyond unprofessional. These people will NEVER get my business again - at either location. They had a chance to make it right and they made a choice to do nothing. They must hire the most angry anti-customer service people on the planet. Not only will I never return but I will definitely direct business elsewhere every chance I get.

If you ever find yourself in Colorado Springs this is the place to stop! Wonderful, cozy atmosphere, a great place to read, catch up or have a date. welcoming and fun staff and the coffee is amazing!! I got the brown sugar latte, it was simple and delicious and the coffee has a fantastic flavor! It was so good and I was there so long I actually had two of them!!(never done that before!!) My only regret was that I didnt try one of their amazing looking gluten free treats!! I dont live in Colorado Springs but if I am ever down here again, I will definitely be stopping back at this place! Its a new favorite!!

TLDR: Honest. Good. Mmmm, pie. Pretty good coffee at a really good price. Delicious pie. What else do you need? The staff is friendly and pretty quick with a healthy dose of eccentricity as weve come to expect from any coffee shop that isnt Starbucks. Seriously, theres one across the street. This place is cheaper and feels more homey and honest. Sure, its not a finely tuned machine where you get a precisely calculated experience, but (subjectively) why would you want that anyway?

My friend ordered a sandwich and it took almost an hour to get it. Only two other customers were there. I ordered a drink off the menu and they didnt have the ingredients for it. My friend ended up ordering a coffee after it took so long. He gave her two choices and after ordering he said they didnt have any left. Pretty bad customer service and didnt even have what was on their menu. Im not going back.

I think this place has so much potential, but the employees are very rude! I was there for a few hours and it was 20 minutes until close and they flickered the lights?!?! Really! It was VERY rude and was rushed out the door. I love the coffee, but the staff are soooo rude every time i go in. No customer service at all! They act like im a bother rather than a paying customer!

Im thinking maybe they were having a bad day at Pikes Perk when we visited (a place this bad couldnt stay in business long). My wife and I both had lattes, probably some of worst espresso drinks we have had anywhere. Bad espresso to start (chemical notes, no body) and no foam. The bagel was edible, but the sausage breakfast burrito was mediocre at best.

Ive been there at different times of the day on the weekend and weekday. Nothing but positive good service. The only reason for 4 of stars is because at neither time did anyone (staff) ask if I was doing alright or needed anything when they stepped around the counter to wipe off tables. Id totally recommend the "Perk" to others and I often do.

The Perk is across the street from Starbucks. If youre a coffee snob and a localvore, then youll like Perk. Its floor creaks. There are threadbare, but clean wing back chairs. Its like your Aunt Nellys house without the old smell. And the coffee is great. Plus, very good local danishes and pastries. Spend local, drink joe from Perk.

The staff are friendly, knowledgeable about the vast coffee and tea options, and caring. I love the atmosphere and ambiance. The gluten-free choices actually taste good. They have a drink special 7 days a week. I highly recommend this LOCALLY owned shop over the corporate choices.

Good menu and ambiance, I love the rooftop seating. Nice community-centric coffee shop... and Im not just sayin this because I met my wife here. But... I met my wife here 10 years ago, and Im glad that the Perk is still a fixture in the downtown area!

Just your average local coffee shop really. The baristas here dont consistently pull espresso shots in glass. In fact they often pull them in metal cups, burning the espresso. Great location to have a day meeting, but unfortunately not much else.

Delicious coffee! Nice upstairs seating area if downstairs is too crowded. Great balcony for outdoor seating when weather is nice. Can get busy and somewhat slow in the morning with all the surrounding businesses employees visiting.

Note it is on South Tejon, not North. Very nice woman behind the register. Fun to be upstairs and people watch on Tejon. Place is okay- inside could be polished up a bit. Had a great smoothie; an ok iced Americano.

GO HERE!!!!!!! Great coffee [I ordered a cappuccino, but its the best one Ive had in a LONG time], good atmosphere, and it was just a great place to relax. The prices were affordable and the baristas were cheerful. :D

The barista was very friendly and whipped up a custom drink in record time. The atmosphere is great and the place feels cozy, and the coffee was spectacular. Definitely head here instead of the usual chain coffee shop.

Excellent coffeeshop for those in downtown Colorado Springs. Definitely check out the top level, and go on the upper outdoor balcony. The view is cool, the baristas were attentive. Thanks for the great experience.

I havent met a problem yet, and the coffee is economic and great if you just want to relax and catch up on some work and if youre there long enough, their 60 cent refills are the best. Support Local quality.

Great casual atmosphere, reasonable prices, excellent beverages and food, and amazing employees! I love that there is room to comfortably meet with friends, co-workers, or just work quietly alone.

I love coffee so I try it everywhere I go. A nice small establishment with a limited menu. Ordered me a breakfast burrito and while I liked everything in it, the tortilla could have been better.
