It was my first time at the Castle Cafe today and I have to say I was pretty unimpressed. (as was my wife) The menu is pretty limited. They have a few fish dishes and some plate meals, some sandwiches, three salads and a few other items. It is pretty pricey to boot. I had high hopes as it has received really high marks on the web. I ordered the Cobb salad and asked if I could sub either the brisket or the steak for the chicken that comes on it. The server said that it may cost extra, to which I replied, "no problem." She came back several minutes later and said that they couldnt substitute it at all. I asked about the extra charge and she said that they flatly refused. Now, theoretically, I could purchase the sandwich and take the brisket off and put it on my sandwich. This would cost an additional $9.99. So, why would it not be possible to put it on the salad for that amount or less? The food was sub-par at best. It is not that it was terrible, but it completely lacked pizazz or taste. Again, not horrible. It was edible, but just not really worth what we paid for it. After lunch, we stopped at King Soopers so that my wife could get something to eat because her salad was really bad. Not wanting to complain, she remained silent and let me know as we were driving off that she was starving. Gotta say, I am thoroughly unimpressed. The server was very nice and did nothing at all bad, but from the refusal to substitute the meat, to the bland "homemade" food, it was pretty bad.

Im not familiar with Castle Rock, but I immediately chose this place for lunch when I saw that fried chicken was their specialty. I was disappointed to find out they only serve fried chicken at dinner, not lunch. I ordered a burger and onion rings instead. It was a great burger, way, way better than Red Robin. The onion rings were good as well. My server was friendly when she took my order, but then I never saw her again. She scooted past my table six times that I counted with no intention of filling my drink, or even checking on anything. I decided to try to make eye contact or get her attention... couldnt do it. I was clearly finished eating, but had to ask the hostess what I needed to do to get a little more water and a check. The hostess brought some water, but I waited a few more minutes for a check and decided to leave $11 on the table. As I got up to leave, my server dropped off my check and mumbled something about being really busy. As I walked to my car, she chased me down and said I still owed her 75 cents, no smiles this time. I gave her another dollar. She had no time to give me any customer service, but she had time to chase me down outside. I always tip 25% for decent service and even more for really good service. Her loss, I guess. I have no idea if my experience was an exception, but I can say the food was good.

I just brought my Mother here tonight. She is very southern and all the other restaurants we brought her to on her visit left her unimpressed. But after coming here, she wanted to know why we hadnt been here to eat sooner. We had a great meal and actually paced our selves to save room for desert. My 4 year old ate fried chicken from the bone for the first time and my Mother devoured the chicken fried steak. The waitress "accidentally" gave us two extra pieces of chicken. We spent less here than another restaurant a few blocks away and came away with a few pounds of left-overs. This place is a real gem of Castle Rock and really reflects the town well. Sundays you can see the cowboys come in town to eat in their sundays best. I once met a train conductor at the bar- this place is about as local as it gets with out being rustic. The building is great to see and the food and service is nothing short of excellent! I cant say enough about this place. You will not be disappointed. Kid friendly too.

Table was not cleaned when we were sat. The server was a little surly and got our order wrong, despite only ordering two items total for two people. Non-alcoholic drinks are not listed on the menu, so youll have to guess at what they have. The coffee was served lukewarm and there was no sugar on the table. The banana cream pie was around 98% whipped cream and crust, with very little banana filling to be found. Prices are also pretty high, going at $20 for two slices of pie, a cup of coffee, and a lemonade. But the apple pie was good, so they have that going for them, which is nice.

This was my first time here. I just moved here months ago and was looking for a awesome fried chicken place. I loved the old western decor. And the history behind the restaurant. I ordered the pan fried chicken and appreciated the cook to order. So fresh but it was bland no flavor other than oil. Skin was crispy good texture but again I would of loved some seasoning. Sides were very good. Server was OK not to friendly or helpful for a first timer. I will attend the restaurant again to give a different dinner item and different server a chance. Oh the biscuit were very good!

The food is home cooking at its best. The fried chicken is the best I have ever had at a restaurant. The wait staff are pleasant and efficient. The bartenders are unfriendly, however. When a person in our party complained about a cocktail she had received, the bartender marched to our table. He said there was nothing wrong with the drink he had made and rudely offered to reshake it not remake it.. He embarrassed my friend and our server. We were pretty taken aback.

Do you like save-mart frozen mixed veggies, powdered re-hydrated mash potatoes, and main meal items from a retirement home? Well, come on down to Castle Rock Cafe. Where after you have something that tastes similar to a hospital entree, youll walk out wondering how you just spent 30 dollars. Overpriced and lacking of effort. If for some reason you are forced to come here, their brisket sandwich is alright, but other than that, just have a coke or a water.

We have been going to this restaurant for their fried chicken dinner for decades, so we are sorely dissatisfied and disappointed in the food tonight. We had good wait staff which was pleasant, but the chicken was bland, unlike in times past. And the vegetables were anemic, undercooked, with no seasoning at all, like they were frozen vegetables nuked in the microwave for one minute and poured onto the plate.

We went there recently for the first time. The fried chicken was GREAT! The mashed potatoes and mac/cheese were very good. Didnt care for the vegetables. Being from the south I would like to have sweet tea but that is not available in many places in Colorado. The hostess was very nice and our server was kind and attentive. Will certainly go there again for the chicken if nothing more!
