Le Petit Bistro has comfortable red booths for a delightful traditional French dinner. When you open the menu, the specials are on the back page. There are at least four appetizers and four entrees that change daily. Guests receive a basket of crunchy crust French bread served with a dish of roasted eggplant tapenade and hummus to be spread on top. The restaurant’s specialties include lamb chops, grilled entrecote steak and the Moroccan Merguez a la Harissa. Looking over the two page wine list, we recognized some good California and International wines that were reasonably priced. A number of French wines are from 1990 to 2009. Guests may also enjoy a nice bottle from Italy or Chile. There are five options for champagne and sparkling. We started with a generous glass of 2011 Reserva Chardonnay Valle de Casablanca from Chile. It was fruity with notes of apricot, yet not too sweet. My husband ordered a full body Chateau D’arthus red Bordeaux. On the palate it bursts with notes of juicy black berry fruit, minerals and chocolate. Both were excellent wines to accompany our appetizers of spicy shrimp and eggplant tart. The Shrimp is known around town for its secret spices with a touch of rosemary. The eggplant was tender on a bed of spinach, onion, basil and tomatoes. I liked the Sole a la Provencale with tomato, kalamata olive, and a white wine sauce very much. My husband’s duck confit was cooked perfectly. Two generous legs were well browned and crisp. The accompanying vegetables were cooked al dente style and not too soft. Be sure to allow 15 minutes for the chocolate soufflé with crème anglase, chocolate sauce and whipped cream. It tastes just like the a soufflé in France. Other desserts include the traditional crepe Suzette with orange Grand Marnier, a hazelnut gelato with hot chocolate and almonds, an apple tart “a la mode” with caramel sauce and a pot de chocolate with creamy chocolate mousse.

I have visitors from out of the country and I wanted to give them a good dining experience. I found a good deal at groupon for Le Petit Bistro. So heres my two cents on this restaurant. The ambience was so-so--nothing special. Interior is old and it smells. I ordered escargot for my appetizer and rib eye medium cooked for my entree. When the escargot came it didnt look appetizing and worst it tasted funny too. My steak arrived, I already know by the looks of it the meat is of poor quality. And it came medium well to well done!!! As a foodie myself I want my food fresh and the meat felt like it was in the freezer for awhile already. And the escargot...was it canned!? (Please tell me its not!) When we left...one of the waiters came running after us and asked how much I tipped. Our bill was $130 minus our groupon voucher of $120. I was left to pay $10 and I added $15 for tip. And the waiter (who was not even our server) reprimanded me that I should have tipped 20%!!!! WTH! First off, you were not our server. Secondly, I think tip is a discretion from customers how much to give. Thirdly, we were only four party and it was already over 10% off the bill. Fourthly, your server have NOT done anything beyond the service. It was just a simple putting water and delivering food (which by the way is his job description) And we came when there was no customers. There was only 4-5 tables during our dining. We didnt even ask for any special request. We just minding ourselves chatting, And we only stayed for an hour. And lastly, how rude of you to come running after me and embarrassed me to ask about my tip. I. WILL. NEVER. COME. HERE. AGAIN. NOR. WILL. I. REFER. YOU. TO. MY. FRIENDS. WORST DINING EXPERIENCE I HAD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!

Le Petit Bistro has been a West Hollywood landmark for as far back as I can remember. They offer a fairly authentic French Bistro menu that has been Americanized over the years. I lived for 3 years near the Germany, Luxembourg and France border so I have eaten in my fair share of real French Bistros and while Le Petit Bistro does capture some of that authenticity, it is very clear to me that over the many decades that they have been in business the restaurant has become more and more Americanized. This Americanization has filtered down to all aspects of the restaurant not just the food. Dont get me wrong, this is a very comfortable, cozy and romantic restaurant. I have had a few dishes here that were fine but were nothing that really excited me. That is not the norm though and for the most part, the food has always been very well prepared. While the food may not be authentic when compared to what you would be served in France, it is still very much French cuisine (adjusted for an American palette). The big red booths inside the restaurant have a very intimate feel and are a great choice for a romantic dinner date. They also have an outdoor patio that Id very popular on those warm and beautiful southern California sorting and summer nights. Even though I thought that their cuisine has lost a bit of its authenticity over the years, this is still a primarily French cuisine restaurant and if you have a hankering for some French food, this place should be high on your list of restaurants to try.

I just have to give this place one star. Service is slow and, well, bad and unhelpful. The food is nothing especial - the price tag is not justified (although its not a very expensive place). The manager lady is kind of rude. And the whole time there was a table with very loud and very annoying people constantly shouting and laughing (as if they are in a sports bar) and the staff did nothing to address the situation. Also, The parking fee (valet: 7$) is rediculous. Not because its too much but because this is not the kind of place (neither its location nor its ambaince) that you would expect valet parking. I just dont like this place.

The food is OK. The salads were over dressed, but fresh. The appetizers and main courses were good, but no “wow” factor even for bistro type food. The sauces on the pasta dishes all tasted that they contained some canned ingredients, which for these prices, should not be. The dinner was pricey for bistro type food. The atmosphere is unnecessarily tight. The service, except for the slow bar, was very attentive despite how busy it was.

A very nice French restaurant, not very casual though. The lamb shanks are an option that I would highly recommend along with the filet mignon. However, having eaten in France at many cafes and brasseries, the quality of the food here is similar. The staff is friendly, but not French and the atmosphere is very pleasant. Great for a romantic date or a group dinner, but quite expensive....

This place gets packed with the dinner crowd. I ordered the Steak Maitre d Hotel which is a thin cut West Hollywood steak with garlic butter served with French fries. My steak was cooked perfectly to order medium. Juicy flavorful and tasty. Loved it. Service was attentive. Definitely not a place for a quiet dinner. Id come back and try other items off the menu.

A pricey restaurant with good food. I got a groupn deal and spent about $70 for a good meal for Mothers day. There were some unhappy reviews on Yelp saying waiter and waitress being rude and asking for 20% tips or so. But I can understand that it wouldnt be cool to have groupon deal and going cheap and expect to pay minimal tips. ;)
