Ive been here plenty of times before but it has been a few years since Ive been and Im in line ready to out in my Togo order and the young lady taking orders completely looked at me in my face and passed me up and took the couple behind me orders first when they came in after me...so I said so whose taking my orser...then she said oh what would u like to order....that was around 756pm... its now 843pm...the entire time she would look my way and have a mug face....i will wait til i get my orders and say something....the food has always been good and never had issues with the service until today...irritated the hell outta me....so after letting the owner know she apologized which technically wasnt her fault, but then the girl got my orders wrong then had the nerve to have an attitude with me...regardless your in customer service boo, so she should have apologized instead of talking back and motioning her hand and I qoute "i aint worried bout what your saying!" Come on little girl dont start with me pls...i grabbed my food off the counter (already paid of course) and left....she was rude off top when walking in there....on top of that they didnt even give me my cornbread...one star customer service is everything...i most likely wasnt the right color

Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon on our way to Napa. Wonderful feel inside the restaurant. Both my wife and I ordered the fried chicken dinner. My wifes with greens and mac/cheese, mine with sweet potatoes and mac/cheese. The plates hit our table while the chicken was still sizzling. the aromas were wonderful. After letting the chicken cool for a few moments, it was time to take a bit. OMG: I hadnt tasted anything this good in a long time. The flavor mix in our mouths was a combination of crispy skin, juicy chicken and great spices. After the grins subsided from our mouths, it was time to try the sides. The mac/cheese was super creamy, almost a custard consistency. The potatoes tasted like I was enjoying pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving dessert. The greens were sweet and the best tasting I have ever had. The cornbread was a bit dry, and nothing to write home about, but with the phenomenal plate of food in front of us, we didnt care. Our biggest concern upon exiting the restaurant was how soon we could be in the area and come back for another plate full of the best food either of us had eaten in a very long time!

After the 2nd time of eating there Im still underwhelmed. I waited at least 20 minutes for some luke warm barbecue ribs that was previously cooked on a grill. I could taste the charcoal which I despise. I was expecting oven cooked ribs with meat falling off the bones from being so tender ribs & I got the opposite. I guess being from the Carolinas & Georgia with my in laws from Texas & Louisana Im used to eating REAL SOUL food where sugar is not the secret ingredient in foods that does not call for sugar such as collard greens & potatoe salad. We actually season our food. The pound cake was flavorful, but dry :( I feel sorry for those whos never eaten real soul food & think this food is great I doubt Ill be going back for a 3rd time. For almost $20 per meal I expect to like something.

I heard so much about the House of Soul I had to try it. Being a New Orleans native soul food has a special place in my heart. Well needless to say I was very disappointed with the service. After making the order had to wait longer than an hour to get carry out. Cash only (No Credit Cards or debit cards). I said to my wife wow I thought we were living in the 21st century. Some folks just dont want change. A very disorganized mom & pop kitchen in which I had the displeasure of visiting. Well if that wasnt enough after getting home Sacramento and opening the dinner I purchased from the House of Soul it got worst the food was HORRIBLE. Dont take my word for it, please visit yourselves...Maybe I just caught them on a bad day...

Found this lovely historic Vallejo spot when I was craving some real south to ya mouth fried chicken and the tase and value for the price did not let me down! The yams and collardds side dishes were also Soul food perfect!, just right firmness & sweet with the yams and not too much fat or salt in the tasty collards. On a 2016/ 2017 holiday note- the place has had a major make-over and the decor and furnishings have been spruced up but still retains decades of african american, celebrity and civil rights memorabilia! The service is down to earth family style buisness, definately with an eye to please a hungry customer. Bottom line, If you know Soul Food / Southern Food , GO! If you havent tried this yet, Try It !

Ok first off. Kitchen is disgusting for an open kitchen no hats no food safety what so ever. On top of that the equipment was in disgusting condition. They use pots of oil to fry their chicken in. I ordered two chicken sandwiches and I got four slices of wonder bread and A chicken wing and three half size thighs. What type of CHICKEN SANDWICH IS THAT!!!!! Mac Donalds could done better. Over all very disappointed in this experience. Although is was cool they had cool aid.

Delicious!!! Hubby and I stopped in today traveling through Vallejo. Took a "side trip" just to eat here. We are so glad we did. Catfish was SOOOOO GOOOD!. He had rice and gravy, I had mac-n-cheese, and we both had greens. Loved it all. Let me tell you, I make some "screamin greens" myself, but these were really good...no bitterness, a little sweet...yummy! And great cornbread, too. The staff are really nice. Well definitely stop here again.

Smothered Short Ribs, yams, and greens. Again, smothered short ribs, yams, and greens. I live an hour away, but will gladly drive anytime I have a craving for the short ribs...and you will crave them because you cant have them just once! It is CASH ONLY. And best to go right when they open by 1pm otherwise they probably sell out of the delicious short ribs everyday- they are that good!

The ABSOLUTE BEST FRIED CHICKEN! Great food and everyone is very nice. Absolutely recommend the fried chicken or even the beef ribs. Everything tastes homemade. I would come here again absolutely. Highly recommend this place. The employees are very friendly and welcoming. Many Customers are also very friendly and social. Come to this place.

This restaurant was recommended by the hotel and were thankful for that recommendation. Great service (really friendly, and hardly noticeable, almost like fine-dining). Serious good fresh fish and a good wine selection. We decided to come back to the same restaurant the next day (after checking out the others in the area that arent at the same level).
