My S.O. And I stayed at one of the many hotels just around the corner from the black oak. Once we saw the sign and read a few reviews, we decided to go there for breakfast the next morning. We are both breakfast lovers and enjoy going to new breakfast spots. We were ultimately disappointed. We called at 930 and put our party name on the wait list. We were told 30 minutes. We got there exactly 30 minutes later and were told another 10, which was accurate. When you walk in, you find yourself in what is essentially a gift shop filled with a wide array of random cards, trinkets, and beanie babies (no joke). The dining room was large and your typical American diner set up. My GF ordered the bacon and cheese omelet while I had the toasted almond pancakes. After much speculation, we agreed that the omelet was made by first creating the egg "wrap, " placing some very over cooked bacon on top of the unfolded egg, adding two slices of cheddar cheese on top of the bacon, and then lazily folding the egg over the top. Somehow, the egg on the bottom pulled out from under the bacon and cheese filling so it just turned out to be a layer of plain egg over bacon and unmelted cheese. Her country potatoes were diced very small and were cooked to the point of mush. The veggies mixed with the potatoes were raw and were clearly not cooked with the potatoes. My toasted almond pancakes were simply normal buttermilk pancakes (perfectly cooked) with some pre-sliced almonds placed in between each pancake. The portions were slightly bigger than average. Im not sure if it was because it was a Saturday morning and the kitchen was just trying to push out orders, but do not confuse black oak with black bear- the oak was a bit of a poor knock off.

Ill admit it. I live in SF and when I find myself out in VV my expectations are pretty low. I know.. pretty snobby. But thats why I was really blown away by Black Oak. As soon as I got there I knew it was the type of thing you can only find outside of the city, in a very good way. I like to think of this place as what the first Dennys might have been like before it was franchised and quality when down the drain. The decor is classic American feeling with big comfy diner style booths. Service is friendly with a smile, portions are enormous with lots of butter. Ate here for breakfast. Highlight had to be the bacon which is crisp on the edges and tender in between. The French toast came on soft fresh thickly cut bread. Over medium eggs were textbook perfection. I wont be forgetting this place.

Food was fresh and good. Coffe a bit watered down. However, I amost gave FOUR stars, except for their fruit salad. In this area of California, and this time of year, a fruit salad is usually at least 4 fresh fruits mixed together. This places fruit salad consisted of two types of fresh melons. At the very bottom was a single piece of fresh pineapple and two small pieces of apple, still partially attached to each other. On the top of the melons, there was a garnish of a thin, partial slice of an orange. If there had been a few more more apples, oranges, and/or pineapples, I would easily have given Black Oak 4 stars!

Restaurant has an older feel to it. Not surprising as it caters to an older crowd. Wife and I were the only two under age 50. I was in for lunch and my wife and I ordered eggs Benedict and the Monte Cristo (Warning, do not order Monte Cristo unless you intend to split it. It is very large.). Portions are generous for the money. Wait staff was excellent. Overall: Three star restaurant if you understand who/what a Kardashian is. Five stars if you remember Eisenhower in the white house.

This has been one of my favorite breakfast places since I was a kid and now we take my daughter here. Fun shop to wait in which entertains kids for a while. Yummy food for reasonable prices and lots of it. And the best hot chocolate in town. It can get really crowded here on the weekends and holidays. Ive only ever done breakfast here not lunch. Totally worth the stop if youre passing through or to add to your regular list if youre a local.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! Found disgusting plastic wrap in my food. Manager was a total JERK, Refused to comp the meal. We had to get more agreesive in the conversation to get him to understand that it doesnt matter what is in the food, the patron should ALWAYS be compensated! His response was ITS ONLY PAPER, was Rude and unprofessional. He really needs to think about a career chage! GO TO DENNYS OR ELESEWHERE!! Food was just fair!

I come here once a week at breakfast for some me time. I have the same waitress (Lisa) and busboy (James). Food is great! They let me order whatever I want even if its not a meal on the menu. Im always greeted by name and the bathrooms are spotless and I love the K-love ratio music they play. Bottom line hands down my favorite breakfast place in vacaville.

The Monte cristo is amazing...excellent sandwich if youve never tried it plus fries and a side salad! Great price for a big meal. I actually drive an hour or so every few months just to go there because I cant find a decent Monte cristo anywhere...if you can even find one at all! My daughter loves the new York steak and eggs..also decently priced...

I love the breakfast options here especially the French toast. This is a great place to stop if you are traveling on the highway and you need to just relax and replenish yourself for your future travels. It has a fun little gift shop in addition to a great restaurant.

Large family friendly restaurant. All booth seating. Homey menu. Excellent homemade soup.Baby spinach salad served with yummy hot sweet and sour dressing. Would have given 5 stars as a good roadside stop if the chicken salad had not been so incredibly bland.

Great family American food. One of the great restaurants that I remember being around vacaville forever. If you want some great traditional American food, burgers, pancakes, etc... and dont mind the original decor then this is your place.

A cut above most breakfast places. The breakfast steak is much higher quality than you usually get at a breakfast diner. Really good!
