We really wanted to try this place and we get there 30 minutes before they close and it took us around 10 minutes to order or maybe less because we knew that they were going to close soon, we were talking while waiting and forgot about the time when suddenly we noticed that a lot of time pass and our food wasnt there just our drinks and we were really hungry so we asked for our food and apparently they had some kind of misunderstanding and our food wasnt prepared! By that time I was getting angry because I was hungry and we had been waiting for around 40 minutes, when they brought our food my bread was all burned! Terrible and my husbands food didnt look like what he asked for, so I couldnt stand it anymore and I stand up and told them that I wasnt going to pay for that horrible food plus all the time that we waited and that they tried to blame us for the delay saying that we took a long time to order which is not true, so I definitely dont recommend this place at all

Great place! HUGE portions - shoulda gotten 1 meal for each 2 people, (but they do have to go boxes) Had a 9 AM gathering so the constant refilling of coffee was a necessity and our group was surprised how fast the servers were - they were on top of their game! There is a trick though... One of our gang had decaf and didnt know that her cup should go on the little orange coaster she was given - so that all of the MANY people that came by would know to give her decaf.... Luckily we caught it and caffeine crisis was avoided :-) I had the Huevos Rachero Benedict (minus the green chilis) the smoked pork was FABULOUS! Talked my crowd into splitting the famous Blackberry Cobbler and a waffle topped with ice cream for desert and still have them telling me what a good idea that was! (Pats self on back... and tummy) Love the Newspaper style menu and natural log lodge ambiance - definitely going back!

Weve have friends who Los Black Bear Diner, so we tried the one in Milpitas. Service was very poor, food was unremarkable, but portions were large. These friends are such fans we eventually tried again, this time in Sunnyvale. The server was nice but the service was still poor. The place was early empty, but service was slow and orders came out wrong, two of them were the daily special, how does that happen. Drinks were never re-filled, and we had to wait forever for the check. The desserts looked and sounded good, a throw back to good old home cooking. However, the apple cobbler was a big disappointment. The "crisp" topping was raw oats, flour, and brown sugar on top, not cooked to a crisp topping like the picture. It tasted like raw oats. Unfortunately strike 2. Still trying to figure out how our friends can love this place and weve had 2 poor experiences.

Extensive menu and big portions make this the go-to place for people who like to eat, judging by the regular clientele. Breaking away from the chicken and waffles and one finds some pleasant surprises: awesome corned beef finds it way into the best hash youll find at a chain restaurant. It makes for a killer Reuben sandwich, too. Prices are reasonable. The famous bear claw pastries are well, so-so. They serve some items in smaller portions for people like me who want to walk out of the place without consuming 2000 calories. Each restaurant is themed to local attractions, including a menu with historical newspaper clippings, photos of the "bear couple" at local places, and wood carvings of bears doing local things.

Terrible service and food quality. Only one out of 3 meals were good. All 3 orders were messed up my eggs and bacon were obviously sitting for some time under heat lamps. Bacon no longer crispy. Eggs have a yellow crust on top. Waffle was good. Not happy with my local representative of the black bear diner place make huge changes or except the failure of this once amazing place to dine. I wont be back until I see signage stating under new owner. Sad the waitress was pretty much guaranteed a big tip for Christmas but now after her bad service on top of food quality and everything coming wrong in some way. Very disappointing. Not getting much in the area of tip.

We got there at 2pm we got seated right away but our order was not taken for a good 20-30 minutes. We later found out that no one knew who was waiting on our table. When they figured out who our waiter was, he wasnt ready to take our order. He went and got a pen then took our order. We waited and the food arrived. My French fries were cold and appeared to have been fried in some old oil based on the color it had. They forgot my biscuits that came with my country fried steak. This is my worst experience at a restaurant in general. The food here was ok at best, we will never be going back to this specific black bear diner.

Late service, they got my order wrong, and no body seems to speak English. I found a hair in my plate and called for the manager it seemed like they couldnt figure out who could accommodate me and my party of 5. Worst service ever they should hire some legal US citizens... Or people that can understand when there told that their staff managed to serve a plate with a super long black hair... GROSS didnt even offer me a refund for the bad service they provided us. Definitely will NEVER visit this place again. I do not recommend this to anybody that does not wanna get sick.

I come here all the time. Its not like any other black bear diner Ive ever been to. The menu is extensive and everything on it that I have tried has been great. I especially love the chicken on waffle and there fresh squeezed orange juice. Atmosphere is great and the service is attentive but food can sometimes take a while. The only real bad thing I can say is that it can get very busy during peak hours so you may have to wait 15-30 minutes when its busy.

Always a great meal and service at Black Bear. Hard to pass on breakfast at any time however they have several great dishes. Spicy patty sausage breakfast is my go to. Ruben sandwich is large and tasty for lunch. Dinner a few options are available. Burgers are great. Large and always fresh. Meatloaf and chicken fried steak are old classics and you wont go away hungry. Overall, the plates are large, great taste and a good price. Enjoy.

My husband and I attended the Pre-Opening of this new Back Bear Diner in Sunnyvale last night and were very impressed. The staff was so welcoming and warm. Our servers were great and the food was absolutely fantastic. The exterior and interior of the diner were beautiful. We had a fantastic time and we will definitely be back. I highly recommend this and it will be marked as one of our favorites. Try it youll love it.

*Terrible* food. I mean, how do you ruin oatmeal?! It had been boiled into a textureless goop, plus the promised cinnamon was missing. My friends "buttermilk" pancakes were too sweet and tasted more like waffles, and came with thin, airy whipped cream. Even the bacon was lame (!) -- too salty and greasy (and we thought there WAS no bad bacon). This place is strictly for the "cheap prices, large portions" crowd.
