I just got a chance to go back here and make sure they hadnt lost what I loved so much about the place: they hadnt. Its still amazingly fast, amazingly fresh and authentic-tasting real Mexican food, for the crazy-cheapest prices Ive ever seen anywhere. Looks like a dump, but dont let that fool you. If youre at the boardwalk and get hungry, you should walk the little bit up the beach and try this place, instead of eating crap amusement park food. Or if youre downtown and want real Mexican food, come here instead of going to Vallarta for more expensive and less tasty food, or to the Palomar for fancier, but -way- more expensive and -still- probably less tasty food.

This little taco shop serves the best tasting deep fried tacos in the world! 5 star restaurants cant hold a candle to this place! Sure the decor is looks like its from an old beach movie and theres practically nothing to put on you tacos but homemade hot sauce from a unlabeled plastic bottle. But the tacos are so unbelievably scrumptious, hot, crispy and puff pastry like fluffy that you wont care!!! There is simply no other place in the world where you can get these tacos and I have been around the world looking for anything remotely close - there just is no other place. If you love tacos, this place is definitely one for the bucket list!

Food: Tacos are 2.50 each and come with a lot of meat. The crispy tacos are good - they are fried when you order (or fairly frequently). I preferred the crispy shredded chicken and the soft carne asada tacos. The shredded pork soft taco (moist but not very flavorful) came next, then the crispy shredded beef taco (wasnt a fan of the sauce they used). Crispy tacos come with shredded lettuce and cheese. Soft tacos come with light green, onion salsa. Ambiance: - Theres indoor and outdoor seating. - Location a couple blocks from the wharf

cannot believe i found this place on Google Earth! Tooling around Santa Cruz. Cyber living - certainly does not touch the real thing. But this looks like THE real thing. Ate large veggie chili relleno burritos, surrounded by rice (inside burrito)! Fantastic and nourishing. Wouldnt be surprised if the rice had been brown rice. Ever since, every time I do happen to order chili rellenos, I can only hope its as good as this. Never is, of course. This goes back to the early to mid 80s! (sorry to say havent been back. some day.)

Favorite taqueria in Santa Cruz. We often walk the dogs there and eat out on the patio area! Friendly staff; some of whom remember our names because we come so often. And possibly the best thing about this place- they have RC cola in the fountain soda machine!!!!!! Seriously awesome. Consistent delicious food quality and taste, awesome prices, friendly staff, clean environment...what else could you ask for??? Id give you guys a hundred stars if I could. Aka...highly recommend

No corners were left uncut by this taquería. The guacamole did not seem to contain avacado, and the carne asada called to mind ground beef rather than steak. In fact, this is the first time Ive seen a restaurant so cheap that they served RC Cola instead of Coke or Pepsi. That said, the beans and rice were edible, and the enchilada wasnt half bad. Prices were reasonable, in line with what you might expect from somewhere that served much, much better tacos.

Cashier crazy rude. Chips greasy. Salsa tasted like ketchup. Guacamole could have been applesauce & mayo blended with salt & green food coloring. The burrito was 2x the size of my stomach, filled with bland ingredients, and the chicken seemed like it came out of a can. Seriously better food at Taco Bell and you can throw a dart in this part of California and hit a better, more authentic, and friendlier Mexican joint.

Las Palmas is a cool little taco shop just off of the pier in Santa Cruz. They are cash only so be sure to bring some. My biggest issue is that they dont serve fish tacos of any kind which was a bummer. Otherwise they had good carne and chicken tacos with good flavor and toppings. There are a few tables and a stand up bar outside and a few tables inside. Food comes out quickly and very hot, so watch out.

Easily the worst tacos Ive had in SC, who puts dried out shredded parmesan on a taco? The chips were burnt and thrown on a food carrying tray. No fish tacos in SC right next to the water? I always pass here and it looks busy so we stopped with some out of town guests, very embarrassing how bad it was. I wont need to stop here again or recommend anyone else does either.

We waited 1 1/2 hours for 3 chicken enchiladas plates!! And even tho they taste good the enchiladas are as big as your middle finger!! It just kinda irritates me to go out and spend money on something that I could have easily made at home in 15 minutes. ...but very nice ppl and convenient to the boardwalk. Thanks!

The food is ok. Large menu selection. Unfortunately the guy working the counter is a little high-strung to be working directly with customers. Even though business was slow I was rushed to place my order by this gruff jerk. I say put him in the kitchen and have someone else work the counter!

Best tacos in town. No question. Best chili verde and chili Colorado as well. The service is amazingly friendly and has a "where everybody knows your name" feel every time I go in there. Ive been coming here my whole life it seems and Ive always preferred it to anything else around.

My wife and I came for the week from Chicago. We stayed over at the Dream Inn. We had a hankering for some burritos and saw that Las Palmas was within walking distance. I trotted on over and picked up the Veggie Burritos! Awesome!!!! Wish they were were in the Chicagoland area!

The veggie tostada was burnt and inedible. The veggie super burrito was a soggy mess of retried beans and sour cream. The nachos are a joke - chips and cheese thrown in a microwave and all stuck together. The veggie quesadilla was the only decent thing we had.

Dont do it! We usually love going to little dives because often they have the best grub! We should of left when there was no salsa bar for the tacos! Meat was greasy...and tasted "refrigerated" as my 5 year old put it. A total downer to our trip :( yuck!

Took a trip to California. Food here was phenomenal. The Horchada was OK to us, but this was the best Mexican food Ive ever had and we went to La Taqueria in SF, which is supposedly some of the best in the USA. I would definitely eat here again.

Great food and super friendly service that feels genuine in its "were glad youre here" vibe. I took my mom from out of town here and she loved it! My 7 month old cant get enough of their refried beans and rice :) thanks for a great time!

Went here on Fri night after the free music on the Boardwalk. Had a combo and found the items good , not great, that is except for the enchalada. It was spot on, best homemade sauce Ive ever tasted. I will go back just for them!

You can NOT beat the value of Las Palmas taco bar, a Santa Cruz institution since forever and it looks like it too with decor that hasnt been updated since the plunge was in effect at the boardwalk. Still cheap, still fantastic.
