Our daughter treated us for dinner this evening (1/19/12). The restaurant looked nice, dark like many Indian restaurants. We ordered assorted vegetable for appetizer and what we got was 1 samosa and 5 onion bhajjis (for $7.95). The Samosa was OK but the dish was over priced. My wife ordered a vegetarian thali ($19.95), I ordered Malabar fish curry dish ($23.95) , and my daughter ordered Chicken Tandoori. The vegetarian thali came with bagara baingan, saag, and some other vegetable, and a little bit of pilaf rice. None of the dishes had any flavor or taste. The rice was dry. Quantities are very meager. The fish in my curry was salmon. Looks like they just dumped a few pieces of salmon in some strang sauce. The fish had no taste or flavor. In a traditional Indian curry, you need to simmer the meat or fish in the sauce for some time to allow the meat or fish to absorbs the spices. But these people dont care about it. They simply dump the boiled meat or fish in the sauce and serve it. Very disappointing. I did not taste the tandoori chicken but my daughter said it was so so. It is absolutely outrageous that they charge so much for the food and do not put any effort in giving some reasonable food in return. Shame on you Royal Khyber!! I feel disgusted when I run into places like this. Patrons, please avoid this place and look for some other. We tried Dosa place little while ago. Their food was really delightful even though it was a little bit on the pricy side (like most dinners at Indian restaurants). Best value for Indian food is places where they have lunch buffets so that you can taste different dishes for one set price.

I bought a groupon for this restaurant and had to make a reservation. So i called them and made a reservation for yesterday at 1:30pm and I mentioned that I had a groupon. Well I get there and there are several people waiting to be seated and its a pretty small restaurant so we were packed like sardines in the lobby area. I go to the hostess and inform her I have a reservation and she says ok, whats your name Ill check. 10 minutes later she still has not returned so i go up again and she says, sorry really busy, whats your name again. I tell and she goes to look in her book and guess what, my name is not there:( She calls me and asks me to point out my name and of course its not there. Im pretty sure she is the one I made the reservation with but she looked at me like I was lying. So no big deal (I think) and i tell her we will just wait like everyone else for a table, she says or sorry I have 4 - 5 people ahead of you and we close at 2pm, please come back another time!!!!! There were actually only 2 groups waiting and she when I had called to make the reservation I had asked what the latest time would be for us to come since they close at 2pm, she said 1:30pm, it was 1:15pm!!!! Needless to say we left and went around the corner to another Indian restaurant that seated us immediately and service was excellent. I was so damn annoyed at how we were treated by that woman and I had been warned that if you mention you have a Groupon, you are given second rate service. I think it is appalling and disrespectful. If they dont want Groupon clientele then dont issue them. I will not be using my groupon, I will be selling it.

HI I m Indian and visits lots of Indian restaurants in Southern California during my business trips. This restaurants food is SO SO for the price they are charging. I was there on Friday brunch around 130 pm. I was surprised to see half the restaurant was occupied. They didnt have enough food on the buffet table. The favored rice was dry. Some items like chicken tandoori ( because of that I go to Indian restaurants. ) ran out. Appetizers were running out. Their Naan was so small. They had very less items compare to other places. There were 2 Asian couple came right after me and they didnt have luck in Tandoori chicken, because I took the last piece they had. Their salad wasnt great. No one in the restaurant came to me asking how is food or need something. The desert was not up to the price of the buffet. They made sweet rice thing , called rice pudding. Very cheap to make that dish. They call it brunch but no Champagne. Taste is OK ( i give 4 out of 10 in the scale). Not great. I was about to finish the meal, the manager ( looks like he is the owner) came to me and asked me whether I needed some more naan. I politely say NO because I was at the end of my meal and I m one time visitor( never go to that place in my life) I didnt bother to say yes.The interior of the restaurant is excellent. I thought I paid $16.95 for brunch to sit in that atmosphere NOT FOR FOOD. I GIVE # 2 IN THE SCALE OF 10 FOR OVERALL.I have been to hundreds of Indian restaurants in my life time. I came across some of the horrible ones. This is one among the lowest rated one in my memory.

This is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to and I have tried places in London and NY. The flavors are so authentic. The food was perfection. The service and ambience were amazing. The wine, beer and cocktails list was wow...I had wine which suited my meal perfectly. I had the eggplant salad to start and it is now my favorite. There are traditional dishes on the menu and non traditional. Both are worth trying. The lamb kebabs with goat cheese were amazing!!! The spinach is delicious. The lamb rogan josh is so tender. Then there was dessert...gulab jaman (sweet donut type balls in syrup) and kulfi (pistachio ice cream). My taste buds were so happy! And then we got the bill and I couldnt believe how reasonable it was. Far less than other Indian places where the food was not that good. Royal Khyber is honestly the best.

Food is very good, service is decent, prices are definitely high, to be expected for an upscale restaurant. We came here on a Groupon deal for dinner. The restaurant is very nice, white table cloth and white cloth napkins, definitely very classy. We were seated by the window and our waiter came to take our order right away. We got 2 different dishes and a side of garlic naan. The prices are definitely higher than most of the other Indian restaurants in the area. The garlic naan was absolutely amazing, definitely the best I have had for a long time. The 2 dishes we got were good, tasty but the portion size is super small, so after we cleaned our plates we were still hungry. Had to stop by in and out afterwards. Service was good, parking was easy, and bathrooms were clean.

What a joke of a business. I purchased 2 Groupons for the place and missed the deadline. Sure, it was my fault, but I figured the place would still honor them, as the whole purpose of a Groupon is to get new business not collect cash without producing anything! Go figure, huh. I called several times and got the run-around. The dude on the phone lied to me and pretended not to be the owner. This place was out of the way and I wasnt too thrilled about driving there and spending more money on top of the Groupon. After reading these other reviews, Im glad the owner or whatever he is was a very short-sighted wanna be businessman. Get a clue - in these tough economic times, customer service should be your top priority.
