This is a premium dining Louisiana steak house that draws in the finest people with the most delicate of palates. Reality: The food is decent, but substantially overpriced. Desserts were actually quite awful. Now, lets talk about the fine people. After dinner, we walked out on the patio to take in the sites. We just moved to East Bay from the east coast and heard about the views. Out on the patio, we joined a trio of well up in years southern gentlemen from New Orleans. Pompously, they took no time to make it known that the owner is a close friend. Was I supposed to pee in my trousers? After only moments of what seemed to be a sensible discussion about traveling, food, the bay bridge and whathaveyou, they turned their attention to my wife and found it most amusing that a Cambodian had never seen a bridge before. Other off-the-cuff comments followed. I think the racist bigoted pricks misunderstood the point and clearly assumed that she was “fresh off the boat.” I have not been disillusioned, having served in Georgia and having traveled far and wide around the world, Americans are still quite racist. But, I was quite a bit disappointed to find it at Epic in San Francisco. This sort of behavior from the patrons would ordinarily not be a reflection on the restaurant. This is a special case. Also, typically, I would not let that go quite so easily, but it was supposed to be a nice, quiet, fancy evening with my wife and friends. It took everything I had not to toss every one of them over the railing. We wisely walked away. To all those who intend to enjoy an Epic dining experience in the future, bon appetite, and enjoy the company of your fellow diners.

The restaurant was beautiful with good food, but we had a number of service related issues. First, we generally felt a bit rushed during the meal, but then after signing our check (~2 hours after sitting), they actually asked us to leave the table and sit at a table at the bar as they had another table they needed to seat. We had not even finished our wine. Understand they have parties to seat, but Ive never been asked to leave after an expensive meal. Second, their "healthy san francisco tax" was 4% and labeled as a "san francisco mandate". I would this to be extremely misleading for non-residents. San Francisco did not mandate they charge 4% extra. Just felt a little sleazy to say it was a mandate. There were a few other small things, like the waiting knocking over a wine glass and not apologizing, and our asking for some extra ice cream and being charged for their ice cream dessert, but perhaps these things just all added up. The little things matter especially in volume. This experience here left a bad taste in my mouth, despite the food being pretty good. I wont be returning here. At a nice restaurant, you would hope they would pay attention to detail.

While people think of Epic for its steaks and tourist appeal (its right on Embarcadero and the view of the Bay Bridge is spectacular), it is so much more. The brunch is what brings us back to the Financial District on a weekend. Sit outside on the patio - they have heaters hidden under the umbrellas - and enjoy the view over a mimosa. The menu has enough variety where you can make this a regular haunt and is a great place to bring out of town guests or get together with a group of friends. They even allow dogs on the patio - at least, I saw one there. Everything Ive ever ordered from here has been delicious. The petite filet is huge and when you order it "Black and Blue" you get a perfect char on the outside and what feels like sushi-grade tuna inside - it just melts in your mouth. The Explosion Burger is the biggest burger I have ever seen and comes with a variety of toppings in little crucibles. Whether an evening dinner with clients, drinks after work, or weekend lounging, Epic is definitely worth repeat visits.

This review is for the happy hour at Epic Roasthouse. They offer Happy Hour Monday through Friday from 3pm to 6:30pm. Enjoy sparkling, white, or red wine of the sommeliers’ selection or beer for only $5. Martinis made with Skyy Vodka or New Amsterdam Gin is $7 while other cocktails made with the same spirits are $5. Some of their unique cocktail specialties such as Sex on South Beach (Skyy Dragon Fruit, peach cranberry and orange juice $5,) Dark and Stormy (Angostura 7 Year Rum, ginger beer and lime $5,) and Pisco Punch (Kappy Pisco, fresh lime and pineapple juice $5,) pair wonderfully with their happy hour snacks ($3). Their happy hour menu wouldn’t truly be Epic if they didn’t include Wood Oven Pizza Pies which they describe as 10 inches of magnificence for only $15. Choose between the Simplicity Pizza (Tomato, Mozzarella, and Basil), Wild Mushroom and Potato (with Mozzarella and Raclette), or Andouille Sausage (with caramelized onions and tomato confit.)

This is one of the nicest places to eat with a view in SF. Situated so close to the water with picturesque views and the option for romantic walks along the water before or after make this place a great choice for a meal or drink with that somebody special. The cocktails are excellent here and they seem to change the cocktails on the menu quite frequently. The servers are really helpful and if you want anything special made they are happy to oblige. The food is just as good and the Wagyu Burger is absolutely awesome as is the Pork Benedict and the French toast is as good as you can get anywhere if your feeling bold. They also have a fantastic dessert menu if you have any room left which we almost never have but they are worth it.

I travelled the west coast from Santa Cruz California to Tofino, Canada and out of all my many restaurant choices this one was the only BAD one for sure, Ill tell you why: despite the very nice set up (view and ambiance) the portions were super small, no much to choose from the menu (I like small menus but this was ridiculous), taste? I could do much better myself in mi kitchen with Walmart ingredients....prices? Outrageous!!! Paid $150 for: two local beers, a tiny appetizer, one small "main dish" and two tiny desserts (literally two bites each). Do a favor to yourself: if you dont need to have a snobby environment while you are eating, DONT eat here! Terrible value! Oh and service: totally blah! Nothing special...

Epic is very expensive, with prices comparable to the most expensive steakhouses in the city. The ribeye I ordered was delicious, and it was well prepared, but it was no better than Harriss, at a 50% premium. The wine list had some gorgeous wines on there, but the selection under $100 was pathetic. The decor was beautiful, and the views of the bay bridge are fantastic. Cocktails and dessert were also great, and the service was as good as youd expect at a steakhouse, if a little pushy. In short, if you dont care about the price, and you want awesome views and good steak, this is a good option, but its not the best steak in the city, and its overpriced, especially for wine.

I visited this restaurant last sunday with a few friends. We arrived before they opened for dinner so we headed up to the bar for a few drinks. We ordered some oysters while we drank. They had kumamoto oysters which are my favorite. They were served with two different sauces, both were delicious. They oysters were very fresh and very tasty. We later went downstairs for dinner and I enjoyed the scallop dish, done to perfection. We also had dessert which was excellent. Very good chocolate and banana dessert! I will have to go back to this restaurant. The atmosphere and decoration was very nice and beautiful views of san francisco bay and the bridge. Very nice time
