Food: Good [which you can get a sense for from any other review.] Service: Rather awful. At my last visit to Arang,I had the misfortune to sit next to two dining individuals who began to, unprompted, direct a multitude of ethnic, racial, gender, and sexuality-based slurs towards myself [they were already complaining about the food, so I presume that I was considered to be an easy target to further vent at.] Although several of their remarks were more unprintable, other highlights included insults such as "Jap", "Chink", "slanty-eyed gook" [apparently they had trouble figuring out what nationality I was], "RuPaul", and a persistent insistence on deliberately misgendering me. I went to talk to the employee there, who unfortunately, had no idea what to do, as one of the individuals decided to follow to give her side of the story [according to her, she wanted me gone because you "couldnt trust that sort of gook."] In the end, he didnt really want to make a fuss, so I accepted being moved to a different table as I didnt want an incident. I also realize that San Francisco is probably a difficult city for service establishments to make a living thanks to high rents, and they likely did not wish to kick out paying customers who were already eating. With that said, I think an extremely basic requirement for a Korean restaurant located within Japantown would at least be a willingness not to tolerate racial slurs directed towards its Korean/Japanese/Chinese/etc. patrons. As such, I will most certainly never be returning. I would recommend any other Asian, LGBTQ, and ally patrons to do the same. Although the food may be nice, the service definitely is far too iffy for me to ever consider chancing it again.

So good yet so spicy! If you have a hankering for Korean and you are in Fillmore, this is definitely the place to hit up. Its a quaint little place that is good for groups. While they dont have a plethora of tables and booths, what they do have is quite large. Their hot tea is really good and its fresh, evident by the presence of the rice and barley. I love their dokbokki! Its crazy spicy but so good. I can feel the beads of sweat on my face again from how hot it was. Their spicy noodles were equally as spicy and good. It was tossed really well so it had an even coat of flavor all around. The only probably was that you couldnt really find the beginning and ends of the noodles so it was kinda clumpy. Only problematic when you try to bite it a section away, it touches your lips, and then sets your face on fire! But it was SO worth it! I could do without ordering the bulgogi and galbi. It was nothing special here. Their spicy dishes not commonly found at tofu houses are the shiz. The portions were pretty big and we were well stuffed afterwards that we could barely get up to walk back to our car. Their menu says they also serve different kinds of korean alcohol such as soju, yogurt soju, and plum wine. My friends and I had our hearts set on yogurt soju, however they didnt have any on hand so we settled for the plum wine.

This used to be our neighborhood go-to spot. Super convenient that theyre open until 2am. Its pretty hard to get a seat here at lunch, surprisingly. I wish theyd just drop the "Japanese" part of their menu--theyre removed enough from Japantown proper that I dont feel like they need it. Service is good--there used to be a super nice lady who worked there who was very attentive, but she disappeared all of a sudden a little over a year ago. Anyways, on to the food. Our standard was a spicy pork or spicy chicken plate and a labokgi (ramen with rice cakes in spicy sauce). Alternatively the kimchi pancakes and soondubu were okay. Soju cocktail is reasonable as well. I would say dont go for the bone soups because theyre honestly pretty bland. Sadly before we moved away the quality seemed to go down a bit--rice cakes would get overcooked..sauce wasnt spicy enough..but fingers crossed next time we go back for nostalgia theyll be back to normal.

FOOD & DRINK: 1.) House tea = Holy cow their tea is good! ;) yummy love the rice or whatever it is in it. 2.) Dol Sot BiBimBap = mm! but with Shitake mushrooms. (Shitake mushrooms personally leave a weird aftertaste for me) But this was completely satisfying my bibimbap craving 3.) Kim Chee Tofu Soup = More sour SERVICE: Not bad. ATMOSPHERE: Such a hidden little korean spot! Like a secret door in the corner of the plaza on Fillmore/Safeway. Its chill though, very casual.

Also my go to korean place for lunch while in the area. Food is cheap and taste great. A nice selection of sides when ordering soups as well. Open till late as well whats not to love. If you want a taste of korea without the huge expense try this place out and maybe you will become a regular lunch goer like me :).

Grabbed some late night post karaoke food. Kitchen closes in 7 minutes. Ordered hot bowls of ramen, got bowls of what was clearly instant noodles you could tell by the taste and the residual seasoning left at the bottom. I cant speak on the Korean food but the ramen was super disappointing.

Un coreano bastante decente en calidad y cantidad por el precio. Buen restaurante para pedir comida para llevar o pedir en casa.

decent food but i think a little pricey. ddeokbokki with jjolmyun noodle was i think $13 or $14, which to me is too pricey. nice little place for when you have Korean snack craving though.

Great place for lunch or dinner. They have a huge menu. You can choose from very mild japanese-style bento boxes or very spicy Korean stews. Be warned, they get very busy at lunch time.

Nice, clean, simple Korean food in a good location. Parking in the Safeway parking lot is convenient and the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend for a quick Korean food fix!

Really great authentic Korean food. And the price is quite reasonable. We spent 28 dollars on Udon noodle, Korean rice in a hot metal bowl, and Korean BBQ bento box. Great value!

The food was terrible. Basically all foods there taste the same with just different names. The worst thing was that some people were smoking inside the restaurant. Unbelievable.

Decent local Korean BBQ place. Cheap prices for a bento box but the place is small. Can be hard to get seating so there is a wait time. Not the cleanest place.
