Good food, slow/terrible service. Got seated almost immediately. We wait for a host to show up. He finally shows up after 5 minutes and says will be with us in a couple of minutes. Shows up after five minutes, and gives us menus. We choose quickly and request him to bring whatever is ready out soon because we have a hungry and sleepy toddler. He asks us what do we want to drink - water, no ice. He gets us breads(very yummy!) and some soup and the other items arrive after some time. Absolutely no complaints about the food. We are done, and we want the check and some to-go boxes. We wait. We wait. He shows up after a while, gets us boxes and is then gone. We wait. He shows up later, gets us our check. To avoid delays, I have my credit card ready. He takes it, and says will be back in a minute. We wait. We wait. Everybody in our party except me leaves. I wait. He hands me back my credit card. Wouldnt recommend to anyone who does not have much time on their hands or has hungry/sleepy kids.

Dirty, dirty, dirty. The front window has more dead flies than I can count, everything that can collect dust has collected dust, and no one has cleaned it for years. We went there because of a recommendation, so we had to try the food. They said the pizza was the best in San Diego, so we ordered a pizza and antipasto salad. The pizza; nothing tasted fresh, the bell peppers I had on my half were soggy, the onions had no flavor (what did they do to make that happen), the dough tasted like white bread. After eating one of her slices, my wife asked if I forgot to order pepperoni for her half, we looked closely, they had a lot of pepperoni, she couldnt taste them. I wouldnt eat the salad, the lettuce was old, my wife said the dressing was aweful. All I can say is dont go.

This place has some of the best Italian food at a great price. None of the Americanized junk that is so laden with salt that you cant taste anything else, but all of the ingredients are evident. Seriously, there must be the little old Grandma in the back cooking up the recipes of old with her secret touch of love. The lunch specials are awesome! You get amazing unlimited bread to snack on, soup or salad and main plate that tastes like youre eating lunch in your Italian cousins home in Italy. Cheaper than even a silly combo meal from a fast food joint. You have $7? You can have a wonderful lunch! Ambiance aside, I would expect to pay $15 for the lunch you get here. I dont want fancy lights and decor when I want a good Italian meal...just Volares.

My best friend Skip took me to Volares this day Saturday March 21st. I bought my self, Skip and George dinner as we celebrated a job well done. I had linguini and steamed clams, Skip had traditional spaghetti with meat sauce and George had the 3 Italian Sausage. We all left with our mouths doing a happy dance. I told the waiter that his was the best linguini I have had in 40 years since I moved to San Diego from Freeport Long Island, New York. Incredible food, great service, cozy place, and amazingly less expensive than expected. If you want a genuine Italian meal, please treat yourself to this wonderful establishment.

Tried it randomly one day and now we cant stop going back! Good size portions and the food is great. But we keep coming back because of the great service and ambience. Dont expect a large chain establishment, this place is really small and (for us anyway) that just adds to its charm. Small parking lot and during weekend prime time hours it can get busy, so you may wanna try and call ahead, but the wait never seems to be that long and its worth it. Its a dying breed; a real ma/pa type of restaurant and we would (and have) recommend(ed) it!

I came across this place by accident getting a car smog check next door and felt a little hungry and walked over and the place smelled delicious as i came in i ordered the lasagna it was delicious. i live in the area and i dont know how i missed this place for so long. there is an olive garden in the area and there is no way it can compare to volare. this is a small restaurant and sometimes there is a 30 min wait but its so well worth the wait....

My experience at this restaurant was horrible. First, service took about 40 plus minutes to place an order on my party of 9. Second, they never came and check on us to see if we needed anything. We literally had to go to the kitchen, and ask for simple things like spoons, napkins, and Parmesan cheese you get the idea. Service was really slow and to top it all off there was a mice in the dining area. I will not be coming back to this place ever.

One of my favorite restaurants in San Diego! Some friends introduced me to Volare a few years ago, and Ive been hooked ever since! The food is always good, and the prices are very reasonable. Its a small place, so be prepared for a wait for dinner. Parking can also be a challenge - I usually park on the street around the corner. Dont let the location between a bait shop and an adult emporium put you off. You wont be disappointed with the meal!

A step back in time , cozy & warm, simple funky decor, a little run down but the food & prices and people are fabulous! The pizza is fantastic! Not greasy, not too much "sauce" . I love the shrimp Volare pasta. Made with olive oil, butter, garlic, ,mushrooms and giant shrimp. And the old fashioned Italian ice cream is great! Love this place! Its a hidden treasure!

The neighborhood is a place that could use some work, but once inside I was in a trance. Classic Italian food and atmosphere. I got stuffed eggplant and I know I will be dreaming about this meal for months. I had a sample of fettuccine gorgonzola as well and Im pretty sure Id order that if I came again. I loved this place. Id love to eat here again sometime.

My family have been long time customers - over 30 years. It has consistently been the best Italian food for the price. The owner, Anna, makes sure all of her customers are well taken care of and has many regulars who eat there often. We love the wait staff and the unpretentious atmosphere. We highly recommend that anyone who loves Italian food try Volare.

We made reservations for a group of seven and when our group arrived on TIME, they still made us wait almost an hour while they let smaller groups in ahead of us!! Ive never experienced anything like that situation!! Ever!! Poor management, and service was also severely lacking...
