Don’t judge a liquor store by its cover. Sure, it has all the remnants of your local convenience store. But yes, it is also a Banker’s Hill hidden deli treasure that certainly doesn’t disappoint. Along with hot and cold sandwich options with all your chosen fillings, they pre-make salads in the morning that are easy to pick-up, pay for and go. (Enter excited, whimsical “YES” scream here.) Whoever said salads can’t make fill you up obviously hasn’t seen the portions and contents of these. They’re a filling, tasty and easy option—see, I told you not to judge. Parking truthfully can be difficult, particularly at prime human feeding times. Also be forewarned: the line at the deli counter can get a little long, especially when you’re forced to stare at the taunting Hot Cheetos in front of you. I hate you cartoon cheetah. Overall, it never fails. Unless you get there later in the day and your favorite pre-made salad is no longer there and you have to wait a little longer with that stupid cheetah again.

I dont know how this place started but its a favorite of mine. Its a small neighborhood market (think slightly bigger than a 7/11) mixed with a neighborhood liquor store, with a deli thrown into the mix. Heres the crazy part, their deli food is amazing. Its all fresh to order, high quality ingredients! They have a front case of prepared salads that they are constantly refilling throughout the lunch hour. Their salads are amazing and I love grabbing one once a week or so. Make sure that you plan for parking over lunch. They have a small lot which turns over quickly, and there is usually ample metered street parking.

I have been coming to this market for over 3 years. The best deli in town and youve also got to try their Pizza. You cant beat a $2 pizza and a buck for a soda thats a $3 lunch in downtown San Diego. The staff there are all really friendly. Lunch time between 11 and 2 can get pretty hectic but if you call 10 minutes in advance youll find your little sandwich bag with your name on it sitting on the counter top ready to go. Always wonderful seeing the same great faces at this market place. Youll also find some great kosher food and some tasty beers. By the way their potato salad is to die for!

This place has it all - alcohol and a large selection of it, fresh food from salads, pizza, to subs, and your usual convenience stock knick knacks. This place even has a parking lot. Nice and easy to pop in and out. Service is good and the place is immaculately clean and organized. At this visit the bf and i had a meatball hot sub with provolone on french roll and a beefeater (roast beef, corned beef, pastrami and Swiss cheese). Both were large in portion and pretty good tasting. Tip: Grab a sub and enjoy it at Balboa Park. Grab a bottle of wine while youre at it and have a picnic.

We visited San Diego for a week and overall this place was great. But, on or last day in San Diego, there was a different guy making sandwiches without gloves. I saw him him pull something in or out of a filthy garbage can, bare handed, wipe his face, and then grabbed the bread for our sandwiches with his bare hands. When i asked him if he could please use gloves and new bread he got a bit of an attitude. Luckily there was a girl working there who understood and she made it. All in all its a great place but that one bad employee kind of left a bad taste for us (pun intended;).

The market is awesome. The staff are awesome. The food is always great, even if I eat it every day. Well priced. Theres always a line at lunch but it goes quickly. Good fresh tasting bread, pizza is warm (but unfortunately soggy by the time I walk back to my office). They should ditch that pointless parking lot (the lunch rush clogs the whole dang street sometimes) and fill it with tables for us pedestrians and regulars. I want to eat my food right away!

Have you ever heard Yummy in Layers? Yep, thats what they friendly prepare with love here. I have to be honest that the front of the store wasnt appealing to me but as a long time hunter I wanted to try and oh my Gosh!! Deliciousness! Today we order the Californian with everything that I deserve and some chips. Amazing! Also love their ready to go salads. The team is always fast but without losing the quality and extremely welcoming.

I love the sandwiches here! Theyre hearty and delicious. Ive been here about six times and the sandwiches have been excellent every time. I also love the selection of drinks and sides. The vibe is kitschy but clean. Theres something here for everyone, which makes it an awesome place for getting a picnic lunch to go eat in Balboa Park, which is just across the street. Try it--you definitely wont regret it!

I have an office down on Laurel and we always order lunch from Marketplace. They are really nice, have pizza, deliver nearly anything in their store, and on top of all that they are always really nice. The only complaint is their salads, Im not a fan. I think they are made elsewhere and delivered but not sure.

Delicious sandwiches, you can choose your sandwiches and in minutes its ready. Salads here are also great. You can even call ahead and just pick up your sandwich and best of all they are delicious, this place is always busy so you know that is delicious to get something from here.

This place has a ton of stock, and the prices were pretty reasonable. The staff were very helpful and gave us some leftover boxes for a makeshift cooler. Great place to go if youre hanging out at the park and need something.

Best wine selection in the bankers hill area. Great sandwiches and super friendly staff! From kombutcha to staples like eggs, butter, and cheese. The family owned place calls you by name when you are a regular.

Nice little store to get lunch after a day at Balboa Park. Friendly staff and they really get to know the locals! The custom made sandwich shop inside is great as well.

It was the worst sandwich i ever had. For almost 6 dollars they only gave me turkey on a bread which i could make that at home for way cheaper worst experience ever

Hands down, best hole-in-the-wall deli place in San Diego! My mouth is watering just writing this review. The Christopher Columbus sandwich is usually my go-to.

Awesome pastrami sandwiches! Get it hot and toasted and go to Balboa park to eat it. Go get a bag of chips too! Pastrami meat was nice, juicy and flavorful.
