Im not even sure where to start... The restaurant gave my party a lot of trouble about wanting to sit together (despite one member coming an hour plus early to let them know to expect us). Once we were sat, they insisted on only letting us have 3 separate checks (which, having been a Restaurant Manager/Employee as long as Ive been is a flashing neon sign of laziness and lack of customer service). We agreed to the checks rather than make a fuss and then were left to wait 15 or so minutes to order (despite someone telling us explicitly if we wanted to sit we needed to order right away and not just hold the table). We ordered our food, server repeated it back and we continued our evening. When my food finally arrived (last, of course) I was given the wrong item. Politely returned it and asked for the correct item (which I now regret). Eventually, after everyone else had finished eating and then some, I did get my correct item at which point I requested a box and just took it home. When it came time to pay the checks we ran into two more issues. One, I was charged full price for the food I never got to eat in the company of my friends (and had waited at least an hour for) and they refused to let us equally split any of the checks between two cards. Evidently they dont just do 3 checks (see laziness above) but we were only permitted 3 cards total for the table. Thank God the other people at the table had cash/were flexible enough to just be willing to pay each other back! I never even received an apology for the mistake/long time of my food. I did eventually receive food and I did get to take it home so it wasnt worth making a scene about being charged full price. I am however completely incapable of understanding how no one thought even a small amount of compensation might be called for in that situation without prompting. If something like that ever happened under my watch, I can guarantee I would be over there making it up to the Guest as soon as possible. Long story short, dont try going there with your friends. In fact, Im so upset by their lack of basic customer service Id recommend just not going at all. The food was okay (a little weird that almost every single roll was topped with "spicy mayo") and not particularly well served (the slices of the rolls were so big they had to be taken apart to eat). There are many other, better, friendlier places to get sushi in San Diego. Dont waste your time here.

Sushi fans+Bob Marley fans = Sushi Diner. Sushi Diner is a cozy Japanese joint that is zealously decorated with Bob Marley paraphernalia from top to bottom. Dont be alarmed--you wont smell the ganja here! Instead, you will be in awe of a jam-packed menu of special sushi rolls with interesting names like "Smokin Jamaican" along with "Cool Runnings". The names pique your interest and yes--you could read the descriptions of whats on the outside and inside of the rolls but instead you choose to look at the pictures with the sushi caption under it because pictures are worth a thousand words. You forget what your roll is supposed to look like or whats supposed to be in it once you order but when the roll comes, youre quick to chow down because it looks like Picasso on a platter and you had already spent the first 10 minutes dissecting the food in your head before it arrived. It IS that good here with the food and the service because once you get in, you get sushi, and you get out. No frills here with the service unlike other places where you question if the waiter sees youve licked the plate clean because it is a VERY cozy joint--youre within mere feet of the staff here so its no problem to have your dining needs met with attentive service. Only caveat: because it IS that good, you will have a wait for dinner time anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. Lunch there is no wait. Locals love this sushi joint and with that said--if you havent tried it, trust my review and have yourself a roll! And on a positive note: free private parking lots for diners!

My friend and I planned to come here because we wanted to get sushi during happy hour. I asked a couple of friends what they thought was a good sushi place and this one themed "bob marley" was commonly mentioned. I got really excited and honestly the theme doesnt disappoint, it was very surprisingly Bob Marley. However, the happy hour was a huge disappointment...usually happy hour entails half off rolls of some sort but in order to get this deal you had to buy a large beer and then youd get something listed for 99cents. not the best but the rolls do make up for this. The cost of the rolls are pretty decent and the portions are good too. With two pages full of specialty rolls its hard to really decide what you want. Honestly go with you gut and what you know youll like or what youre feeling, because if you end up not liking it...well thats too bad. The soft shell crap was a favorite for me and after ordering three rolls and sharing it with my friend we both went home happy and for $15. Happy Eating!

Sushi Diner is San Diegos hidden gem for sushi. I was fortunate enough to live within walking distance to this place for a year, and frequented it often and was never disappointed. Their lunch specials are great and on the less expensive side, taste and quality are never compromised. It is a Rasta-themed restaurant, with Bob Marley and Rasta inspired names for the sushi, which I find absolutely amazing. They have a very wide selection to choose from and everything I have tried (which is a lot) has been out of this world. The owner is the Sushi Chef, he is always smiling and treats his customers well. Also, if you plan to frequent this place, I recommend buying your own chopsticks from them. Its only $2 and they keep them at the restaurant and every time dine there, you use your own chopsticks. I really like this idea! Keep in mind if you want to dine in, to either come earlier in the evening or be prepared to wait because they have limited seating.

Went there on Valentines day so thats why I didnt give it 1 star being a server I know its a tough day but this was unforgivable. Thirty minutes to receive our sake bombs in dirty shot glasses which matched our wasabi plates with dried fish stuck to the sides and for the food well I cant quite say, and hour into our night at Sushi Diner our server never came back to take our order or even acknowledge our presence at all. So by the time we finished our saki bombs we had been there over an hour and could not handle it anymore and left which got me an ear full from my girlfriend and ruined our entire Valentines/Anniversary and killed any dreams of having saki bomb sex later. In conclusion this place may have good food but Its hard to get and the staff is very rude and not helpful, I recommend Sushi Deli 3 about a mile or so east of Sushi Diner, sure there is always a wait but its well worth it.

All I can say is....Great! Great sushi Great service Great prices Great atmosphere This is a small, cozy sushi spot, and it fills up quickly for dinner. It has a really laid-back, surf-beach-reggae theme going on, so definitely casual and fun. Our first experience was ordering sushi to go from their website about a year ago, and we noted that there was not much selection other than sushi standards. However, on our first visit to the restaurant, we found that they have lots to choose from, including quite a few specialty rolls. We especially like the 98 degrees roll and dynamite on the shell.
