Wanna-be Mexican restaurant. Terrible food, only thing good was the four thick chips on my combo plate: which you can buy at a Mexican grocery. Otherwise unless youre drunk and willing to eat anything the food they make is terrible. My kid agrees with me this food sucked. He says his tiny burrito (1x1) was bad ( Ill get to that in a minute), his beans and rice were bad as well. I tried it, they were dry, flat and overcooked just as mine were. My meal was likewise very disappointing. The beef tamale was overcooked, dry and mostly corn. The beef enchilada was likewise just as bad and small. Nothing on my plate had any flavor. The sauce they provided on the side was watery and flat. I poured it all over my plate to make it palatable. For $22 it was a total ripoff for a dinner. Taco bell would have served more and tasted better. Btw the kids meal was a snack. The $5 tiny "burrito" was 1x1 inch and the guy told me it was the same size as the $4 when I said I wanted that one instead. Even the stranger next to me said it was very tiny when I complained about it.

Mmmmmm!!! I love this place! They are the original inventor of that delicious little rolled taco called a Taquito! Their tacos are as big as the entire state of Texas and their meat is absolutely delicious and packed full in those huge tacos! They dont really serve alcohol its not much of a bar and my BF and I constantly tug of war over good Mexican or good drinks with decent Mexican food so when Im craving a good margarita I steer clear but, if you want all around good and quick food El Indio is your stop ladies and gentlemen! They have to die for tortillas and they do something just heavenly to that meat of theirs to make it so juicy and good! One taco is good for the ladies usually and two for the men! Dont be afraid if they arent that busy, Ive never been here when its slammed its always comfortably quiet and I like that! This is a must stop and HAS been seen on the Food Network show DDD! Come check it out, you wont be sad you did!

I went here with friends after finding out the Cuatros Milpas was closed. I had seen this place in Diner, Drive-ins and Dives. All I have to say is that Guy the host of the show never gives a bad review and this place is definitely bad. Lucha Libre is a 1/4 mile north of this place and while not that great itself. It is better than El Indio. El Indio is a tourist trap and as others have said not authentic Mexican Food at all. If you want authentic and dont want to cross the border, I would recommend going to Tacos El Gordo in Chula Vista. This place is about as authentic as it gets. El Indio on the other hand is all pre-made mass produced garbage. You have to be rube to go there. Seriously even the big chain "Bertos" style places are better. I would suggest going to any other Taco shop than El Indio. This place is a TOURIST TRAP! I doubt many San Diegans go there.

Came here because Guy Fieri featured it on the Food Network. Very disappointed. San Diego is an absolute goldmine when it comes to taco shops and there are literally over a hundred better taco shops than this. Food was about twice the price as normal taco shops (as youll see in other negative reviews... read them and youll find a common theme). Food is NOT authentic Mexican food... it tastes likes stuff is pre-made, canned, processed, etc. Seems like theyre trying to skimp on ingredients to make a buck. Also... if you want chips and salsa... youre going to have to pay $2.75 for a small bag and $5 for a big bag. Typically chips are free. In a nutshell - or taco shell - overpriced cheap, unauthentic food. But hey, when youre on TV, the business will most likely keep flowing in, so as an owner, why not compromise quality and see how fat your pockets can get?

I really enjoy El Indio. Of course, when I lived in San Diego as a kid, this was the family spot, so Im biased. But all-n-all, El Indio is truly an excellent Mexican food landmark of SD. Home of the Taquito, El Indio does a lot of things really well. For one, their Mortaditas are scrumptious; cut up taquitos smothered in cheesey goodness and jalapenos. YUMMM! My absolutely favorite, however, is the shredded chicken burrito. You MUST try it. If you like chicken burritos with a lot of original flavor, youll love their shredded chicken burrito. You wont find another burrito like it in San Diego. (I recommend getting the "mini" so that you can try something else too.) A definite perk are their dog friendly patios. In the shade with lots of room, my pup can lounge and people watch while we chow down. I love El Indio - I want some right now.

I too had been referred here by someone who said "Its the best in San Diego". The staff were very friendly but the food has a l-o-n-g way to go. The nachos were cold & had some orange colored stuff on them that looked like at-one-time-melted Velvita cheese. I had beef fajitas that had a LOT of inedible bits in them and being generous, could only be rated as edible; but barely. How bad was the overall experience? It was so bad that I had to brush my teeth when I got back home just to get the left-over taste out of my mouth! I used to say that the worst Mexican food I had ever tasted came from a little bar in the Albuquerque airport, but last evenings experience makes them look GREAT! I too am of the opinion that if this is the best that SD has to offer, well, I feel sorry for the locals.

The radio hypes it up as a restaurant... but basically what it is, its just a taco shop... drove 16 miles from South bay and find out that its not a mexican restaurant, its just a taco shop... I couldve gone to any other taco shops close to me in southbay... food is nothing special... My mom ordered the roll tacos and they were just meh (bland), i was recommended the San Diego "burrito" and its just a quesadilla with chicken, sour cream and guacamole folded as a burrito, my dad ordered the California burrito and it was just French fries with very little carne asada; 3/4 French fries and 1/4 carne asada. Ill not be wasting my gas to drive 20 min when I can just drive 3 min a taco shop close to me.... Sorry about it

El Indio is a staple in San Diego and deservedly so. They have authentic Mexican food but nothing to wild or crazy. They make everything in-house daily and it shows. If youre looking for straight up authentic (SoCal) Mexican food you wont be disappointed. They have a parking lot dedicated to themselves which helps when youre right on time. Id suggest going a little early to beat the lunchtime crowd or avoiding the crowd all together and going for a nice quick dinner. Their tortillas are renowned and they have rightfully earned their recognition. They have entry nod seating both inside and at the side patio next door. They also have a few tables across the street near their dedicated parking.
