I have no idea how Cornerstone maintains a four star review. Knowing that Cornerstone is a Midtown legend, when my friends came to visit Sacramento from out of town, I insisted that we go eat there. I have eaten there in the past and was always happy with the experience. When we arrived, something seemed wrong. The restaurant was very empty for a late Sunday morning, when most restaurants of this type are extremely busy. This also seemed very unusual for a diner with Cornerstones reputation. The restaurant was absolutely frigid. Even the server was even wearing a light coat inside the restaurant while serving, and none of us could remove our coats due to the temperature. Service certainly was fast and friendly and I in no way blame our server for our unpleasant experience. What was really the most disappointing about Cornerstone was the food. It was what could be best described as bland and greasy. Two of us ordered the potato platter, one vegetarian, one not. An omelet was ordered as well. We all ordered the "home fries." I call them "home fries" because most home fries are are diced. What we were served was what amounted to a mushed baked potato that was thrown on the grill to crisp some of its surface area. There were no spices or flavoring added to the potatoes. The biscuits that we were served were dense (as if they werent prepared with enough baking soda) and bland. No one in our four person group was satisfied with the meal they were served. Coffee came from a filthy, filmy pot that made me grimace. The bathroom was clean and neat, but the door latch installation made it possible for someone to open it partially even when the door was locked. I didnt notice this until someone tried to open the door and it came open enough for the person to see that the bathroom was in use. It was very embarrassing for both myself and the other person trying to use the bathroom. I dont know what has happened to Cornerstone, but I certainly wouldnt recommend eating there. I hadnt eaten there for a while, and I am sad to see what had become of a once great restaurant.

Made the mistake of coming here at 3:00 pm on a Sunday after brunch during a football game. The bar staff was incapable of controlling the +200 lb drunken land-mammals theyd over-served. I dont think they had a plan to handle hammered patrons on a Sunday. That alone is excusable, it happens. However the food was really poor quality, so lets talk about that. When asked about the French dip, the waiter said mehhh... you might want the philli instead. Fries were soft, soggy and served room temperature. Sandwiches had a meager portion of meat, which tasted boiled and straight from a bag. The cheese was not melted on the philli, and overall Im really hoping I dont get food poisoning later this evening. On a positive note: If youre looking for dirt cheap mimosas served in a pitcher until 3:00 pm in the afternoon along with cheap greasy bar food - this is the spot for you. Drinks were also good, so thats a plus.

I go here at least once a week, whether for breakfast, lunch or happy hour. This is where cops and fireman eat breakfast. You know what they say about that. The early bird special, served unit 8, is pretty darn good and if you order something filling like biscuits and gravy or the home frys (a must) you will leave satisfied. Really hungry? Their omelets are great. Happy hour is generally my thing. (3-6) $2 Miller or a decent selection of micro brews for a bit more. Im a vodka tonic guy. $3.50 for a cocktail and a fair range of happy hour food choices. Big potato skins for $3. Also, certain hours during the weekend they have bottomless mimosas for $12

So disappointed, my family took me there for my birthday breakfast, I actually requested that due to hearing from my neighbors that the food was good. Well, evidently they had never had the chicken fried steak! It was an obviously frozen Pattie of something, it wasnt even close to what I anticipated. But then Im southern and know what chicken fried steak should be for that price. Next time, if I go back, Ill have a simple sandwich. Other than the suckie excuse for my meal, it was a pleasant experience. Comfortable atmosphere. They just need a good cook.

My wife and I had brunch at the J Street location (next to their old spot) and it was an excellent experience! We hadnt been back to Cornerstone for around 3 years because our last visit was to their K St store and it wasnt enjoyable. At the new location, the food and service was great. In addition, the interior was clean, jazzy and upbeat - perfect for the mid-town SACTO Area. We will be back soon!

This is a great affordable breakfast place. I loved the outdoor patio, which was so much quieter than inside. The food was pretty good and I was very pleased with how easy it was to make changes to get a vegetarian meal. My final bill for a large plate of food and a hot tea was $10 and change, which was a deal for the amount of food I received. The service was pretty good and the location was awesome.

Super friendly family owned restaurant. Their new location is more spacious and roomy. The portions of the food are very generous. A side salad is enough for two people to share and would be sold in another restaurant as a regular salad. The breakfast platters are their specialty and are also very generously sized and delicious. Sandwiches are also very good.

Ive eaten here for lunch about 6 times in the past month. Every time the food is relatively fast (10-12 minutes). I typically get one of their sandwiches. The service is very good. The food is also very good. You get a lot for your money as well. Overall I am very satisfied with Cornerstone and will continue to go back.

Awesome restaurant with hometown flair. Prices are unbelievably inexpensive and good. 2 coffees , 2 mimosas, 2 Country Benedicts (made with sausage pattys and country gravy & house made hashbrowns) for $31. Minus the online coupon thats always available came to $23.77 after tax. The waitress was super friendly too.

Came in for dinner for 2 and we were seated right away. It is a cute place that was dimly lit. The waitress took our order right away. We ordered the Calamari, fried chicken and beef stew and nothing was left behind. Great food that was very flavorful and I will definitely be coming back!!

Food is always good, it is the service that is well below par. With ALL of the staff that is on shift, you would expect better service and attention. They all seem pre-occupied with their own conversations. I feel bad for the owner who has to pay for the laziness.

Fine place for breakfast after a night (or graveyard) shift! Staff attentive and local WiFi when you just need to check you game stats, too. Regular morning place for a few of the police for breakfast or lunch! That points to some good food!
