Me and a diverse group of friends ate hear Asian and Spanish, and 2 African Americans we were. The waitress looked afraid to approach us at first as if we were hoodlums who wanted to rob her. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the moment. She takes our order after 15-20 minutes of waiting with no beverages having her stare at us. The food came out fast but when a white family came in the waitressed paid less attention to us more attention to the white family who were loud obnoxious yet the waitress appeared to be more friendly and giggly and attentive with them. When the waitress did acknowledge us it was to give us our bill saying (time to go!) before our meal was finished we paid for it and had doggy bags for our food. As we left we saw that the waitress gave the white patrons a bottle of sake on the house. We got nothing but thirsty mouths and food we did not have a chance to finish in the restaurant. I never been treated like this before and never thought I would encounter this type of treatment from Kyotos.

"For the cost I can get more and better sushi at Ta Ke down the street." Said no one, ever. (mfw "more and better") Ive been going to Kyoto for seven years, and Ive been to dozens of sushi places all over Marin and Sonoma county. The prices are great, but the quality is superb. You might find lower prices somewhere else, but thats a risk im not willing to take. Kyoto could easily raise their prices with the excellent sushi they serve, but they havent during the entirety of my patronage. The customer service is excellent as well. The owner has an incredible memory which she shows off all the time, and if its your birthday shell sake bomb you under the table at your request. What more can you ask for?

We recently started coming here since our favorite sushi place, Ta Ke, closed. Kyoto is a very nice restaurant, clean and welcoming. The owner is usually there and greets everyone and makes sure you are having a good experience. We only order ngiri and sushi rolls and, so far, everything has been high quality and super fresh. The prices are higher than Ta Ke was, but still very reasonable, especially for the portions you get. The albacore is highly flavorable and fresh-tasting, and if you like uni, you wont be disappointed. My only criticism is the tea: it has no flavor. If they used a Genmaicha tea I would be in sushi heaven.

This is the third time Ive been to this restaurant, each time bringing more family and friends. We have always been very pleased with the food and service. Their sushi has always been fresh and delicious. I personally like the ginger they serve here. Its got a bit of sweetness to it. Reading of the racism experienced here, I was a bit leery, but we have always been treated with courtesy, prompt service and pleasant demeanors.

Delicious sushi. My wife loves it, while I am not a huge sushi guy I love the teriyaki salmon and the tempura. Annie is amazing, always puts a smile on everyones face. The decor and atmosphere are wonderful and the staff is just delightful. We highly recommend this local sushi restaurant.

My friends and I have been coming to Kyoto for years - since they opened. The food is always fresh and the family-owned and run establishment has many loyal local followers. If you like good sushi and authentic Japanese cuisine and ambiance, try them.

The freshest sushi around, with sushi chefs who have been there over a decade, which makes the quality very high and consistent. Annie, the owner, is extremely friendly, gracious, fun, and makes you feel at home. Cozy, family-friendly atmosphere.

The sushi was okay and well presented, but not great or memorable. The tea was flavorless and tepid. The service was very good. For the cost I can get more and better sushi at Ta Ke down the street.

The food was awesome. Everything tasted excellent. But cooking was very long. We wanted to come for an hour, but ended up two hours. We were very hungry. In all, the food was very nice.

Food is good but if you are ordering off the menu online ignore the pricing listed. It is incorrect and they will not honor the online prices.
