I am in full simpathy with the two previous reviewers. Hey, you know what? I too discovered this local bakery, a true bakery, making true bread, yeah. You know the kind I am talking about: A bread with no sugars (sucrose, brown sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup), no preservatives (no ethylated mono and triglycerides, potassium bromate, potassium iodide, calcium proprionate, benzoyl peroxide, tricalcium phosphate, calcium sulfate, ammonium chloride and magnesium carbonate). None is good and worth paying for. Can you believe the crap being used elsewhere? Not having these is beneficial to the shelf, but I dont care for shelves; I care about me...my health. The Muffin Top Bakery does not use gummers (dough conditioners) either. You know how you can squeeze bread and it feels puffy and spongy? Yeah. This is a phony property. If it springs back like a rubber duck, or feels gummy and plastic, you know that the bakery probably added ascorbic acid, ammonium chloride, DATEM, and calcium iodate. Surprised? Yeah, I was, when I read my first bread label to learn the names of ingreditents used in mass produced bread. I was even outraged. What the heck is that crap? But I was also surprised when I learned that this bakery uses only water, flour, yeast, and some salt. If the bread goes stale or hardens in one or two days, you know its real bread, bread with these minimal ingredients. Thats what I like, just the basic stuff. and is why I have been back several times this month. Thats why I tell everyone who is likely to care about it. Its operated by a friendly duo, a brother and sister team, sometimes the sisters sons come in to help on busy days. Thats what happened on my last visit. It was funny...Rosette remarked, "I dont know how this place will run on Monday when I told them that I will have to do jury duty." Just like your community shop. She runs the business end, while the dude, Emille (I guess they are French), is the baker. I really like that I can call and order bread; Sometimes I just pop in and buy from a selection on display. A really cool place to patronize. I dont mind buying more stuff -- I guess inadvertently since all I really ever want is the baguettes -- like the various salads (barley, tuna, tabouleh). My fav. is the tuna. Rosette and Emille have a display case full of typical fare that the breakfast or lunch crowd might want, i.e, cheese and cherry danishes, bear claws, but also have some high end specialties too, i.e., cream puffs, eclairs, German chocolate cake, and, for chocoholics, tripple chocolate cake. *OMG*!

Their quality has declined over the years. My family have ordered all of our graduation cakes from here but every year they get worse. We paid over $100 on a "custom" graduation cake that was nothing like we asked for. It was supposed to be of the Operation patient (the game). We asked if it was possible and they insisted it was. When we asked to speak to the owner to verify this, the owner replied "Im busy icing a cake". Trusting the other employees we agreed to get our cake from here since 8x out of 10 we are satisfied with our cakes from here. Instead, we got a horrid yellow cake with an extremely scaled down version of the Operation patient. The frosting had so much coloring that it made the frosting inedible. This layer of frosting was over an inch thick all around the cake. It was topped off with a trim of blue -- Overall the cake looked tacky. The filling was supposed to be creme with fresh strawberries. Instead, we had some sort of an artificial bubble gum flavored cream with dehydrated strawberries. A cheap taste matched the cheap look. I highly recommend to look elsewhere.

Edit: Ive been here two times and usually had a more than positive experience. First time i got an extra couple cookies and last time I had great tasting muffins but oh boy am i thoroughly disappointed today! I seriously thought it was an absolute joke. I bought a little supermarket looking muffin (I even told the staff it looked different from usual) wrapped in plastic for 2.50 and I was asking questions about how it was prepared after I bought 3 of them... It didnt taste fresh or even freshly baked at all. I got a refund on 2 of them. Note to make sure they give you the correct amount because they originally gave me less than what i purchased. I drove 20 minutes here because I had a serious craving... But i wont be coming back anytime soon. Note: pretty expensive. 2 cookies fit in your palm and 12 cookies are 7 bucks. Also, the hours arent very good.

Ive been coming to this bakery for over 3 years now. But Lately I havent gone that much because the owner hasnt been around and she was a total sweetheart. Her daughter as well is a sweat heart but have only see her 2 times.the other day I went in and there was this lady who I had seen many times in the bakery but never had she been the one to help me out it was always the daughter or owner. Well first of all this lady didnt say anything when I walked in. She seemed annoyed because I kept asking which desserts were vegan. The last answer I got was "ummm yeah" after that I just got some cookies and completed my shopping. While paying she had this irritated look on her didnt smile at all while I was there pretty sad to have someone like that work at such an awesome bakery. Her vibe was not welcoming at all /:

I used to strictly go to a bakery in Claremont, but since moving to Riverside its just too far to drive for cake or other baked goodies. My fiance told me about Muffin Top Bakery when I was looking to order him a special birthday cake as well as one for my best friend. I love that its family owned, they were really helpful and wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. Most people wont go through the trouble. They designed a beautiful, hip, las vegas cake for my fiance complete with a big red dice cake on top and playing chips and playing cards and a more elegant birthday cake for my friend. Not only were the cakes beautiful but they tasted so delicious that I will never buy another grocery store cake again! Now Im going back to try the huge selection of cookies! YUM!

This is a great hidden bakery! At first, I always passed by this place but never went in. So one day, I went in and saw all the fresh goodies! I tried the brownies and baklava. The brownie was yum and super fresh (not too sweet) and the baklava has the perfect sweetness to it. Not too sweet like the other baklavas Ive tried in the past. So this place is very good! I also like the fact that they have "muffin tops" and its called Muffin Top bakery! Very cute! =) And the workers there are so friendly too! I will definitely be going there when my sweet tooth needs to be met. Eager to try the fresh made breads and sandwiches next!

My boss was panicking about getting oatmeal cookies for her daughters class on her birthday. Her little 6 year old baby wanted oatmeal cookies without the raisins. We searched high and low at store after store... no luck. Then I resorted to searching for bakeries on the internet. I had 3 bakeries tell me they did not have the special cookies either. Well when I called Muffin Top they asked when I needed them. I was stunned in disbelief. The lady asked what time I needed them by because they would bake them fresh for me and I could come pick them up. Muffin Top is amazing!!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
