My wife and I had high hopes for this restaurant, but were disappointed in the end. The food here is what I term, "Mild Mex," meaning, bland and destined for the palates of the uninitiated. I have eaten great Southwestern and Mexican cuisine in California, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas and Mexico. This food would be scorned in all of these communities. My wife ordered cheese enchiladas and I chicken. We spent about $30 for our food and water. To be fair, I will only describe what I ate. My enchiladas were filled with simple grilled chicken. The tortillas were covered in a tasteless chili sauce. In a good Southwestern restaurant, the chicken would have been marinated in a spicy sauce with onions and various seasonings. Here the chicken was just chopped and added naked to the tortilla. Tasteless! By the way, in the Mild Mex tradition, the salsa that accompanied the chips was about 90 percent tomato. The salsa was one step hotter than tomato sauce. It had the consistency of spaghetti sauce. Yuck! Discriminating palates from Santa Fe, Tucson or Austin would ask for their money back and would never come back to this place in Riverside. I figure this joint gets most of its business from the rotund county bureaucrats that barely serve the public next door. Only they would appreciate such bland offerings and consider this junk a respite from their ham and white bread sandwiches. They probably also stop here for the drinks. Only then would the food be palatable. Eventually the government employees who frequent this attempt at a restaurant have to slosh back to their cubicle and push more paper. Gratefully, they know that sooner than later theyll be waddling to the restroom where they can do their best work. Thankfully, the food at Anchos doesnt stick around for long.

I had heard a lot of wonderful things about Anchos and I had a friend that used to work there, she insisted that it was amazing and since it was very close to my husbands work we decided to meet there on his lunch break. We should have left when the chips and salsa came. While the chips were good the salsa took a huge effort to choke down. Its a canned tomato puree that tastes of dust and dirt. We didnt take that as a sign and ordered our food anyway. A steak burrito for him and a grilled chicken breast for me. His steak was charred black and dry, the sauce covering the burrito tasted like it was made by Campbells, like sugar, ketchup, and tomato soup blended together. My chicken breast was cooked on a griddle despite the menu saying that it was mesquite grilled, it was dry, rubbery and poor quality. My dish had Zero flavor. I had requested extra pico de gallo when I ordered and found that to be grainy and bland as well. The only good part of the meal was the tortillas that were made to order and served warm, its a shame that the burrito was not wrapped in one of those. So; all of this for $40, what a deal! I am so happy that I went there! (I hope that the sarcasm is not lost here) I assure you that no matter how short of a meal break my husband has we will never step foot in that horrid restaurant again. I cant believe that anyone likes this place, honestly.

Went there for a birthday dinner. It was DELICIOUS Service- Excellent, constant drink refills even during busy hours. The owner/manager is still hungry for business and makes sure to greet everyone. Ambiance- Very open restaurant, bright and cheery. Food- Excellent, light and tasty, everything was good (chicken), taco, tamale, enchilada, beans, rice, of course the tortillas are wonderful, and the salsa goes well with the food. All seems very pure and unpolluted with unnecessary sauces and felt VERY healthy and natural. I couldnt eat it fast enough. Meat was moist and it didnt feel heavy while being eaten or after. Price- Very good prices and enough food that I took food home..thank the fresh tortillas especially Bathrooms...could be better, but not a big issue. Location- a bit off the beaten track but I suppose thats how you keep the rents down. Special Service- They gave some children at a table some dough to play with and they really enjoyed it, VERY FAMILY FRIENDLY!!! GREAT mom and pop place in Riverside...now a favorite after my first visit. Give this place a shot and you wont be disappointed.

Went to eat there last sunday, the parking lot was full which was a good sign, however I did not like the food. No one in my party of six liked the food. We paid 120 dollars for horrible food, it was bland from the salsa to the rice and enchiladas were dry. This is not Mexican food, maybe Southwest or something. The service was good that is why I gave it 1 star.. The people who gave it 5 stars must have never had decent 5 star Mexican/Southwest or any other food for that matter. Go to Ponce in San Diego and then come back, you will change your mind yes you will. I have never given a negative review on a food place before, but later that night I got violently ill, (vomitting) anybody else get sick after eating there on Sunday April 18th?. and I had went there on my last day of my vacation.

We went to Anchos after reading an article "Top 25 Restaurants in Riverside" on the internet. Since this is our first visit in Riverside we do not have any experience with the other 24, but this restaurant would be very hard to beat on quality, quantity, service and taste. The salsa was extremely fresh and different with every serving (uniquely). The homemade tortillas were fantastic and made right in front of you. The waitress recommended the ribs and they were fall off the bone incredible. Anyone with taste buds would never call these ribs bland. They had the right amount of spice, flavor and heat. On par (if not better) than Baby Blues in Venice Beach. This is not a high end gastronomic experience but a top notch causual restaurant with great food. Guy Fieri where are you???

O My Gosh! This is an absolute must if you are ever in Riverside. This place has the absolute best Mexican food that I have had in a long time. They have their own fresh flour tortilla factory in the middle of the restaurant. The salsa is to die for as well. Please note that you will get hooked on the chips and salsa so order lightly for dinner. I am always taking home food because the family got full on chips, salsa, and tortillas. The service here is the best and they have one the best restaurant in Riverside for the past 10 years! Please visit this place and enjoy!

The food is not that great everything has a brunt taste to it. Do not go if you are a Vegetarian!! Unless you want meat on everything there really isnt many other options. For some strange reason people that live in Riverside enjoy the food here, on more than one occasion people have suggested it and each time I go I am not as thrilled as they are but then again the only "Mexican" restaurant to compare it is El Torito. For my money I would rather eat at Miguel Jr.s inside the mall. Riverside needs to have a better option when it comes to a "Southwest/Mexican" restaurant.

Anchos is a great family restaurant. The fresh tortillas and the rest of the food is delicious, and the tortilla-making in the center of the restaurant is fascinating for kids. Our waitress even gave us balls of dough for the kids to play with (like play dough), and the kids were VERY impressed that they got to choose from a selection of ice creams for their dessert (as part of the kids meal). The hostess and the waitress were exceptional - welcoming, attentive, friendly, and helpful. Our kids are already asking to go back, so Anchos will likely see us again soon!
