I had to meet one of my collegue and one of our clients. My Colleague lives in the area and suggested we meet at Salute since she lives in the area. I am African American and my Colleague is White. Our client is also African American. When we arrived we were immediately seated, however, we noticed that the waitress was a bit rude and disrespectful. She did NOT ask us what we would like to drink, instead we sat there for an extremely long time with nothing more than water. My College is a Doctor and was teaching the entire group about how to order food and not eat it all. Instead pack it up and save it for later to avoid over eating and to assist with weight loss. Everyone at the table ordered all the food they desired, and after taking very tiny bites and pulling away from the food decided to pack it up for later to avoid over eating. When it came time to pay, I pulled out a Corporate Credit/Debit Card and the waitress came back with a suspicious look on her face as though we could not afford the place or that we could not afford to pay and said, "The card was declined. Do you have another card"? Before I could say anything, The waitress said, "oh, you dont have one right now, I will come back". I said, "Yes, hold on I have another card". She said, "No, I can come back".I said "I just told you to hold, on I have another card and that card should be just fine". She then replied "Oh, maybe there isnt enough in the account, do you have another card?".I replied, yes I just told you twice that I have another card, please wait will I get it out of my wallet. I then pulled out a personal debit card & I told her, I am not sure why that card was declined because I have more than enough in that account ". The waitress replied, who knows I ran it and it doesnt work. When she brought our food out she replied, "The guy in the kitchen thought we were going to throw the food away, and when I told him you were going to save it for later, he gave you a little more. Another guy thought this was a take out order". The waitress was totally unaware who I am and that I had just used the card and it worked fine. Just to prove that I was correct, I called the bank to see if the card was working and they confirmed that the card not only works but that there was more than enough in the account to cover any charges. Just as my client stated, this was nothing more than a case of internalized Racism and Classicism. I wouldnt recommend this place to ANYONE in their right mind. No one deserves to get treated as though they are second class citizens and are not worthy of respect. Thus far I have not heard back from the restaurant about the incident, however, I do have a cousin and several relatives that work in television and radio. I will be contacting them as well to speak publicly about this incident to assure that they or their friends EVER eat there again!!

Checked the website menu and drove over to newish expensive condos and newish marina with lots of expensive yachts. Beautiful old Victorian house with great views! Not at all poor high-crime reputation Richmond! The hostess seated me and said the website menu was out of date as I showed her my opened smartphone. That should be fixed pronto. I was handed the thick cover menus, and calamari had gone from $11 to $14, V.S. from below $17 to $21,,,!! Well, it got a good review on Check, please tv show, so we will see. The new bartender was my waiter at 5pm. Didnt offer a lemon slice in water in a wine glass. Ordered calamari and shrimp linguine, because the stuffed chicken breast is gone. Lots of menu changes unfortunately. I had hoped they would honor their website menu or at least the old still posted prices, but not offered. The gratis brown warm bread is untouchable. The calamari were barely cooked and white, not light golden brown. The pasta shrimp were not shelled to the tail, so you had to use fingers to enjoy the last half inch. Or fork and knife. But the pasta plate was heated! Needs salt and pepper. Dinner early service was slow with only 3 early diners. I was there an hour. It took 4 waiters over 5min to pick up my credit card... I was disappointed with the service, food, many complex missing old dishes, and the highly inflated new prices. I hope you have a much better dining experience !!

This is one of my favorite local restaurant. Their food is always fresh and tasty. I ordered the Ribeye medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. The mushroom and sauce added a nice touch, but I wouldve like the sauce to be warm (the sauce was room temperature). Their sides are always fresh. The string beans and carrots were crispy and looks like it came from a local farm. Their mash potato was very fresh and taste good. Their desserts are always delicious, especially their chocolate cake. One suggestion I have is please change your menu or add some other specials. Ive been here so many times that Ive sampled all your dishes!

The problem with Mr. OBillion is that he is a black man in disguise as an African American. I know about these things for I am a Hungarian-Lithuanian American disguised as an American. I was served, albeit at a completely different restaurant with a fork set at an 89 degree angle towards me, instead of the usual and friendly 90 degrees, showing hostile, subliminal disfavor with me because of my Lithuanian Grandmother who came over in 1880. I too suffer as the African American man did because I got treatment like a white man even though Im Hungarian/Lithuanian American. :-)

This is a great local bar and decent Italian restaurant with wonderful views of the Richmond Marina Bay. Known mostly to locals and to bicyclists who go right past their dining room window on a boardwalk section of the San Francisco Bay Trail, it is owned and operated by an immigrant woman who worked her way up from dishwasher to owner! Every Thanksgiving, Salute opens its doors to a sit down Thanksgiving lunch, served for free to all in need. Accompanying this is a wellness fair in the parking lot with lots of local aid agencies offering their services.

I have seen this woman reuse food previously served. Charge higher prices to what she calls the rich, even regular customers and friends. Requires employee tips of 5% from large parties. Requires servers to tip other managers so she doesnt have to pay them a competitive wage. That is just the tip of the iceberg. She keeps her employees quiet through intimidation. Please do not be party to her tyranny! Salute is a hellhole.

This restaurant had a very calm and comfortable atmosphere. The staff are all very polite and well mannered, and the food was excellent. Had some of the best calamari Ive had in years, tried out one of their Key Line Pie martinis, and enjoyed a very tasty meal. Portions are just right to fill you up without leaving any leftovers.

I belong to a hiking group of local friends throughout the Bay Area. After every hike, a lunch is hosted, at a restaurant, near the hike, by the hiking leader of the month. Well, this month, our hiker chick leader was Danuta and this great gal chose this GREAT restaurant in which none of us had ever been to before....
